I really love Blu-ray Disc players. I've had many from the 40GB phat PS3 to the 120GB PS3 Slim which i now have. I also had a non-3D Panasonic DMP BD35 which was an excellent BD player. Nowadays i use a 120GB PS3 Slim for games , wired and wireless media streaming and watching BD's and DVD's. I also have 2 Pioneer Blu-ray Disc players model BDP-430 and BDP-LX55. I must say i really love to have an Oppo but in the USA it cost 499 Dollars. Here in Europe it costs 680 euro's which is too expensive!
I have a Vizio 42" 1080p and blu ray playback via Playstation 3 is excellent, but DVD upconversion is only so-so. Can someone tell me if its worth me shelling out $500 bucks for this player? I'd really love to see some of my DVDs that have no Blu-Ray version (Pink Floyd's The Wall and PULSE mainly) in better resolution. Thanks!!
The Oppo has no built in Wifi so its up to the user and what the needs are. personally, i am getting rid of my cable tv and going to be using things like netflix. saves money and in the end i get the best of both worlds. i was thinking about getting the oppo as it is the very best all round disc player with upcovnerting and rare formats, the bluray quality across most players should be equal.
yeah, that is true. i won't disagree. i eventually settled with a ps/3. i would have really liked to have went the way of the Oppo, but it does depend on the needs of the individual.
You'll be able to listen to cd's through your television. If you want to listen to them through speakers, you will have to buy a receiver and speakers.
Lol yeah!!!!(flexes arms). lol. The PS3 has been my primary blu Ray player ever since 2006....it's treated ne well!! And I know it's treated you well also!! Harman Kardon are excellent with audio for smaller rooms, but their disc players are overpriced and underperforming. You're probably better off with the PS3, in my opinion. It's really an amazing device!!!
I'm not a big fan of using my PS3 as my blu-ray player becuase I allways get that someone logged on / off or get game invites. But I guess I could make a own movie user. And thinking about getting a big ass plasma TV soon. They are so cheap compered to the size and what you get! I've looked at on 60" but that is maybe way to over sized lol. And I've looked at some 50" ones. So will be sweet. And you kinda called me a retard! :O (read next comment)
You kinda called me a retard because I use PC speakers and not a proper audio "set". Well I use my Tritton AX Pro's to watch movies when I'm alone, but with friends I use PC speakers xD And I know Harman Kordon is overpriced, but I've had no problems with it and their support are AWESOME! If you ask about what ever they give you a spot on answer to all your questions.
Lol, my apologies....I should rephrase to say, "if you're using Blu Ray, with just the TV speakers, then you're missing out!!" I used PC speakers before I got my 1st surround system. I'll never forget, I got some Altec Lansing speakers with a 4 inch sub....man, I used to blast music for my entire dorm hallway!!!
With the Harman Kardon, they sound very nice on classical pieces;I like that they are TRUTHFUL about their wattage!
I actually just took down the flat panel I was using. I ordered a Mitsubishi HC7000 1080P projector and a Denon 4310....once this arrive and are combined with the Oppo, PS3, 360, and other devices, it will be a TRUE home theater!!

How do you use this as a CD player? Do you need to buy a $600 receiver and speakers?
If I buy this, I want it to function as my Blu-Ray, DVD and CD player.

All the more reason to be stealing electronics. You are probably up to your eyeballs in student debt.

hdmi 1.4?

Nahhh 1.4 is for when 4k(Quad HD) becomes a mainstay in home theater....won't mean much for a good 4 or 5 years from now. These are 1.3

I like Harman Kordon tho but their blu-ray player is expensive, probably like this one.

There is a way to stop that; log out of the PlayStation Network on your PS3 before playing a movie.

@Watcher3223 I guess I can. But even though I rather like using a proper blu-ray player. Just personal preference.

There are benefits to using a regular Blu-Ray Disc player instead of a PS-3.
One specific benefit is that you spare the disc drive in your PS-3 of wear, saving it for games.
