  • I still can't believe there was even a debate over who originally choreographed most of this piece... it has Christopher Dean all over it even when the music changes. Torvill & Dean performed The Missing first and Dean should have gotten credit for it. Duchesney's were good but they wouldn't have been a speck in the history books if it hadn't been for Torvill & Dean.

  • pour moi les meilleurs patineurs!!!!!

  • Torvill and dean skated this in 1988. and sorry but it was T and D that changed the world of ice skating forever and not his wife and her brother. They are very good but will never be as good as T and D.

  • I agree with quafer's post: Christopher Dean provided striking & innovative choreography for them for several years which helped make them famous. Torvill and Dean were innovative AND the best technical skaters around by a mile. Sadly, the Duchesnays weren't and though they skated with great passion and

conviction, they won the World's only when the Russians were under a cloud thru a drugs scandal. But their performances were very exciting. Dean was accused of stealing some of the moves here.

  • This video is fantastic!!!Hope to become a skater too=)

  • I was there to see it with my own eyes!! It will be a moment that I will never forget. I was 11 years old. It was amazing, and so powerful to be there during this performance!! As a skater myself at the time, it was just to motivating, and captivating!

  • OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING I LOVE FIGURE SKATING.

  • OMFG, this made me ry, the music is really touching, and this is dance in the sport of skating, this is what ic e dance SHOULD BE. they were amazing, just like stephanie rosenthal and her single free skate, wow just amazing and magical !

  • @memuysexyfosho i meant cry

  • can anybody write here what the commentator say please ? thanks

  • one of the greatest FD

  • @b2367 the best ever

  • i've never been the biggest fan of the duchesnays (klimova/ponomarenko, grishuk/platov, usova/zhulin were clearly better skaters with superior technique) but even i can't deny the greatness of this program. one of the best, most memorable free dances ever, delivered here with power and passion. (and paul duchesnay is incredibly hot.:-))

  • @quafer ................ the best, most memorable free dances ever, ... for me to date....Die hard fan since the nid 70's of the sport and remain the same and to date this program is second to none!!!! in my opinion................

  • Thank you for posting this. Chris Dean's amazing genius in choreography and this couple's finest performance.

  • @muscleboi4use ...for me the best ice dance to date ..second to none..............I have been a fan since 1977..........there are really only three that come to mind as amazing....but this one # 1 all time favorite

  • I'll never forget seeing this performance. It is still the best ever, in my mind. Still the only skating performance that almost moved me to tears. (hey, being a man, I couldn't admit it if it did right?) I had it recorded on beta and watched it many times, but haven't seen it for years. Wow, what a treat...thank you so much!

  • @Raiderkirk Hi R...I remember this too. Torville and Dean skated their own version of this also. (It is OK to be a man, and OK to be moved to tears---otherwise your brain might explode, or you might lapse into a coma from the stress of having too many muscles and having to decide everything for everybody in your life). No, no, very silly, but you know that many women love to see a man's "tender' side Had this on VHS, but tapes molded in my damp climate (Seattle). Comments welcome.

  • @Raiderkirk ............I also had it recorded on beta and watched it many times & then some ,............ I hadn't seen it for years. I often thought about it and wanted to see it again and wished many times I still had the tape ........ I also say.............Wow, what a treat...thank you so much! I watch it often I am taken away each and every time !!!!!!! It is so captivating ........

  • I can't believe I found this video! Few days ago I was talking about this performance with my mom :). I was a kid when I saw it 20 years ago and it made a huge impact on me. Now I know why. This was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. It's funny how I remembered their certain moves and their outfits but couldn't remember names. I just knew they were siblings. Thank you so much for posting it! You made my day!

  • My pleasure! ;-)

  • exactly the same for me!

  • @Lolla373 The same!

  • Brilliant. Still holds up after 20 years. Still remember it to this day. shawnf20 - I agree 100% - the new scoring system would not reward this type of dancing. The passion and artistry seems to have been lost nowadays in Ice Dance - too many required elements and teh sameness of routines. Really think the ISU need to back track to the old 6.0 or viewing numbers will drop even further.

  • @premierrules I couldn't agree more. The new rules have ruined ice skating, which I used to watch avidly. To prove it to myself, I turned off the music and watched the current performances and compared them to this era, and there is simply no comparison.

  • Magnifico!!! Grazie. +++++++ Molto carini anche i genitori.

  • When I see this tour do force of a performance, it amazes me and at the same time makes me sad. With the new code of point (CoP) system in ice dance, you could never have a free dance today with the same kind of passion and artistic intensity as the Duchesnay's. I think that the new system has removed the intellectual side of figure skating, which was so perfectly captured in this performance. Also, I really appreciate Toller Cranston's knowledge of skating and strong level of language.

  • I couldn't agree more with your remarks! I hope we can send the sport 'Back to the Future' with some substantial changes. This nutty gymnastics approach is almost "unwatchable". You need stories to satisfy skating fans......best wishes

  • I agree as to current Ice Dancing...

I found the Duchesnays 1990 FD comparable only with Grishtuk&Platov 1997 FD (the same artistric impression, although the Russians seems to be better technically). A little behind (but still well ahead current programs) is - in my opinion - Usova&Zhulin blues (1993 FD): very good technique and suberb Maya's expression!

  • @shawnf20 Duchesnay were actually beautiful, but there's no comparison between their version and the Torvill& Dean's: their dramatic intensity, the effortless and hypnotic quality of the moves, their charisma are still unmatched.

  • sweet! their mom was the of the owner of the daycare centre I went to when I was only three years old, she took care of me almost everyday! I got to meet them in person, they were so nice :D they lived in Ottawa by the time I met them...

  • That performance is a tour de force.

  • Just love the music; where can I find it?!

    Thanks for the vids!

  • @alcoholicglitterati "Panpipes of the Andes" by Incantation Cacharpaya

  • Thanks for posting this. I'd never heard the Canadian commentary until I found it,. I agree with Toller's assessment!

  • who are the commentators here? i love the first person's comments, about breaking rules.

  • It was Toller Cranston and Tracy Wilson.

  • thank you so much! I love Toller's comments, how there is only one mark suitable for a dance like this. thank you very much for putting this up.
