I'm so grateful I live in a neighborhood that has an indy music store like this. Barnes & Noble and mall stores like FYE can never recreate this kind of shopping environment.
I like how Barry explains how all the dumbasses got rid of their record players, and how the Jesus and Mary Chain picked up where Echo left off. Also pushing Blonde on Blonde which is probably a highly priced and sought after album nowadays...
I like how Dick thinks he knows it all when it comes to music... That is CORRECT!
The internet seems to have only killed the demand for CDs. I work in a record store and we still sell a ton of vinyl, a lot of it to young people. You'd be surprised what kids are listening to these days too.
More power to you!! Keep the Vinyl flowing. I know technology tends to push human interaction out of a lot of things but I think, for true music lovers, you can never replace going into a music store..chatting with the funny hair guy behind the counter about what's new...and walking out with a new band in your hands (preferably on vinyl). That will never be replaced by a one click download for the true lovers of music!!!
The two skaters are from the Electronica scene... getting Riuchi Sakamoto for his jungle/breakbeats, sigue sigue sputnik because they have very primary elements of electronica - JONI MITCHELL, obviously for sampling purposes (no electro track is worth anything without samples, ppl) - AND the 'Home Recording Studio' book - because electronica is mostly written at a home studio.
plus, in the deleted scenes, they actually BUY an Aphex Twin record ('Window Licker' on Vinyl 12" - The one who has a chick in a Bikini on the cover but then you see she's actually got the face of a really scruffy-lookin' ugly dude)
lol this is the funniest scene ever its really funny wen john cussac says "HEY OK FUCKERS" to those skate board dudes that sole the records haha i was laughing for hours haha brilliant movie never gets old :)i ove jb hes a funny lil dude lol :)
Your sittin around complaining about no more Echo albums. I can't believe you don't own this fuckin' record it's insane!!! Jesus! Echo & the Bunnymen awesome band and of course The Jesus & Mary Chain. Oh yeah and also The Cure.
This film is the story of my life, minus the fat guy and the nerd. Plus I'm not as good looking as John Cusack and none of my exes looked like Catherine Zeta Jones...more like Fatherine Pizza Jones.
I fuckin' love this movie man!!! I'm glad someone put up the "Beta Band" scene. I was gonna do that soon but now I don't need to 'cause it's been taken care of! Thank you for posting this!

It's true. I once asked the girl at my old store if they were losing business and she said no.

i miss buying records. id meet people looking for similar records and id engage in a conversation about music, like this. but now, that's nearly gone.
its rare to meet people with an artistic passion for music.
