Musically they are emo. Their style is punk, but the musical genre is technically "Emotional Hardcore". Emo has nothing to do with lyrics, it's a genre. Also this is not plain "rock". "Rock" is like Nickelback and stuff. MCR is too hardcore to be basic "rock".
