  • Mary, I work for the B&SV and we are doing some updates on signage, would it be ok to link to your video so people standing next to #17 can pull up your video and see what she looked like when she was in her prime?

    Thanks!

  • Sweet Tusky Tooth, she's pulling piggybacks!

  • I cant beleive you got a video of the co&e when they still had steam engine #17. Great video Mary.

  • is she canadian?

  • Is the Boone & Scenic Railway planning on restoring this engine back to operating condition. I would rather ride behind this engine rathire than the forein Chiniese Engine. :) :(

  • @Matt3985 The chances of this engine ever running on the B&SV are somewhere on the downside of the slim to none scale. Short of someone winning the lottery and throwing their winnings at it, this locomotive will remain stuffed and mounted.

This engine needed considerable work when it left the CO&E; boiler and firebox work as well as body work on the tender. Work done to it by a contractor in Dupo, Illinois, further damaged the boiler and over two decades outdoors has not helped either.

    Mary

  • I can't believe someone has video of this machine! This is awesome. I love the last two scenes.

  • That almost looks out of place, a steamer hauling a piggyback train.

  • @TVRM610 - Almost, but not quite. Nickel Plate Road was known for hauling piggyback behind Berkshires in the fifties. Of course, now you have the proof you could use to win a few bets!

  • Thanks

  • This railroad is NOT in Boone, Iowa, it is in Marion, Illinois. I used to live there and this same train went right by my house. I've even rode on it before.

  • I am not sure what you are reading, but nobody has said the CO&E is in Boone. Former COER 17 is on display in Boone, Iowa, at the B&SV.

The engine last ran in September of '86 and was sold to the B&SV the following year. It left Marion in February of '87.

  • Hmmm...I must have made a mistake. Oh well.

  • AWESOME!!! A Steam Locomotive doing what it was meant to, haulin freight for money! :)

  • Nice shots? what year was this filmed?

  • @ma7799 This was filmed between 1980 and 1985.

  • That's a nice engine. I guess she doesn't run anymore. The nice sounding whistle sounds a lot like a Southern PS4. Whould have liked to have seen that run. You're lucky & thanks for sharing it

  • @TheWidowsSonTemplar The whistle came off the Illinois Central Railroad; from 2-10-2 #2807 to be specific. Interestingly, sound recordings of #2807 were (are?) sold by Revelation Video when they were known as Revelation Audio-Visuals.

  • Sad that she came to such a horrible end.

  • Now on display at the Boone & Scenic Valley Railway

  • Where is that railroad? This is an awesome engine. Our steamer used to run on the CO&E.

  • The railroad is in Boone, Iowa

  • What a gorgeous train! Where was this shot at?

    Christel

P.S. Miss seeing you on the Old Chicken Bone!
