  • My PE teachers thought it would be fun to teach is country dancing! well they thought wrong!

  • Oh road121549 - how right you are!!

  • I wish people still danced like this socially such as at parties and other formal events. All I see is bumping and grinding and people flailing themselves on the dance floor. Where's the class? I wish they had these types of dance lessons around where I live.

  • @AnimeEyes143

Hey Devon, I do not know where you live but you should defenitly search the internet for those dances in your area - normally you should be able to finde sonme dancers.

  • @AnimeEyes143 We do it plenty in the south west

  • Me and a few friends will be doing this too tomorrow. :)

  • This is what I did in school when I was about 6 or 7 as part of physical education (in England, I'm 20 now) I loved it it's a great dance to teach children in school, except for the whole hand-holding with boys :P

  • English countra dancing is done with a running step, not stiff-legged walking.

  • Why should they dress up like that? This is social dancing, not a display.

  • to share with others and let others know about english country dancing. This type of dancing can be done for show however this is just for fun.

  • Hi there. My family and some friends host English Country Dances every 3 months or so. This is English Country Dance. I also have done Scottish Country Dancing. There is a big difference. The Scottish Country Dancing is very energetic and physical, English COuntry Dancing does tend to be more processional, but still gets very energetic. Try the Gay Gordon Jig. You will be sweating. Also the New French Girl is very energetic. These are both English Country Dances.

  • Scottish country dance is very different from English country dance. English is much slower, and often walking, as you said.

  • Sorry to have to say this, English dances can be very energetic if you like.

The idea that everything has to be walked and be "stately" is frankly ridiculous, pick up yer feet, step and dance... unless you really do prefer walking to music.

  • Andrew, the reason why people often walk English country dance and keep it stately is because that is the way it was done. Certainly, people can choose to pep it up, but that doesn't mean that's the way dances were written. Dances specify whether to use a walking step or a skipping step. It makes no sense to say "unless you prefer walking to music." It's not one or the other. English country dance is done to music, whether you're walking or skipping.

  • echt gaaf dit.
