  • Hmm, could be a good start for a cleaning/security robot...

Although that were me building it, I'd hook up a taser to the thing; nothing like a little disc roving up to a trespasser and incapacitating him. XD

  • lol

  • what if it sucks up the bullets? And what if , like a cock fight, we could have 2 aifsoft roombas face off against each other? BUT what if the Terminator movie is true and roombas take over the world? MUFFINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol muffins

  • only has to hoover up the ball bearings to reload lmfao

  • a new generation tank might look like this, XD

  • "And they have a plan." battlestar galactica lol

  • The Roomba with Airsoft Gun

"shoots the enemies, and cleans the blood"

  • does it clean up after itself?

  • roomba suppose to be a cleaning machine, not a machine to make a mess. haha

  • I bet they could get it to pick up the bullets. XD

  • pick it back up and shoot again... lol. Smart!

  • @firehead333 the next step is to let it pick up the Bullets and refill his Clip with it.

  • Ah, that was supposed to be a reply to the question 'since when are there "rules to robots".

Of course the rules aren't official in any way.

  • Since 1942, Issac Asimov created the rules for his science fiction books on Robotics. The rules seemed pretty sensible though so real life robotics researchers adopted them.

  • dumbass, u probobly dont get out much do you?

  • its frum a movie dude, chill out

  • iRobot to be exact.

  • would be really cool if it could vacuum up the airsoft pellets and reload itself :)

  • Breaking the rule of robotics already? A robot cannot cause harm to a person and cannot, through inaction, let a person be harmed. Rule #1. It's all fun and games now that the technology is new but give it a few decades and someone will get seriously fucked up by arming robots.

  • i robot reference, i love it

  • Can it pick uo the BB balls againg?

  • I suppose this revolution starts with arming Roombas but will end up with all of us in Cylon labor camps. THANKS ALOT GUYS!!!!!!!

  • you should aim up so you can hit targets in the torso...shooting feet isnt gonna do much.

  • What happens when it becomes self aware?

  • lol, were gunna be in pain...

  • cool, but it would be better if yall could make it taller

  • NOOOooo! THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE REVOLUTION! I'm scared...

  • it doesnt shoot everytime,

it needs a funnel hopper (like the fully auto paintball guns)

or aka, the ones with a motor that feeds the paintballs faster than gravity would

  • Sorry to disappoint you but it does shoot every time. the hopper keeps the pellets loaded. check out the newer video and you can see close ups of the hopper while firing. yes there are hoppers out there that allow for faster fire rates but this is a bottom of the line airsoft gun. does not fire that fast!

  • A more advanced algorithm would be better (to shoot ahead of people who are moving, to deal better with multiple equally hot signals, etc), but it'd be a start.

  • first you have to get it to detect humans vs objects before u can track and shoot them. thermal sensor + cpu searching for large, warm patterns... like even household pets! oh no! roomba put kitty's eye out! ;;

  • my dog would eat roomba, no matter how many times it shot it, and my cat would sneak up on it and get it to join her evil forces (my cat is evil lol)

  • Now you just need to have it be triggered by (and aim by) an infrared camera, and you'll have the ultimate sentrybot for a game of Nerf Wars :)

The software would be really easy to write. Find the hottest pixel. If it's over a low threshold, turn the robot to face it by turning in the direction that the hottest pixel is from the center until the hottest pixel shows up as nearly centered. If it's over a higher threshold, start firing.

  • Check out the edited version of this video, got rid of the annoying overlay titles! and added close ups at the end. click on my

    name upper right corner.

  • cool but you shoulda used a systema gearbox :D you could have about 900rpm (WAY FASTER THAN THAT THING) and shooting at about 450 feet per second :D that's how REAL airsofts are... not ones that you buy at the store that are plastic.... plastic gearboxes are less durable, less powerful, and shoot slower. even if you did crank up that plastic gearbox with like a 10.8v battery the bushings would fry in a matter of minutes. I WANT TO SEE IT WITH A SYSTEMA THEN ILL BE HAPPY :D

  • Sounds cool but like I said, this is designed to demonstrate robotics to kids. Safety first, cool, high speed rapid fire has to take second.

Plus I spent all of eleven bucks on it! plastic is the way to go if you don't care about FPS or fire rate.

  • oh yeah... kinda forgot about the kids part lol. I just can't stop imagining what it would be like if it was uber pimp :D i'm going to mount something on an RC car but idk.... how do you control the airsoft wirelessly??? I'm probably too stupid because my IQ is average(97) and not supergenius like some people........ but hey! i Know how to solder and repair airsoft guns :)

  • I hooked up a relay to a control switch on the roomba that is normally used to turn on the vacuum so when i hit the vacuum button it trips/energizes the relay that connects a 4aa cell battery pack directly to the motor in the airsoft. I added a timer circut into the relay circut to limit the duration so I would not empty the ammo hopper quickly but that was extra, ran it for a while without the timer.

  • If you can solder and repair airsoft you can handle this, nothing too special. Look for an rc car or other vehicle that has another feature/function or channel. wire up the relay to that feature. (some cars you can beep the horn or turn on lights remotely) you can buy a small wireless camera pretty cheap and run it to your tv. don't forget to add a laser line level to the barrel, makes aiming easier and looks cool!

  • sweet, sounds easy. I should have a video of what I'm planning to make some time this month. cross your fingers and hope i dont shoot myself with it in the making XD

  • oh yeah. I might add a rocket feature because i just found out how to make it so i can model rocket engines(with the turn left feature on a remote control helicopter LOL) And i don't mean to double post sorry.

  • rockets and airsoft? or just one or the other? I have done the rocket r/c thing before. it is cool but you only get one shot each "run" the airsoft is cool because you can blast away as long as your ammo holds out. I forgot to mention that i have used two r/c cars together for more functions.. the first car is the base/motion vehicle and the second car is gutted, and strapped to the first. just keep the r/c board and use the motor wires to control the relay.

  • yeah I'm using a control thing from a helicopter to control the airsoft. Last night i experimented with the rocket thing and i'm not sure the rocket will fly straight(but i got it to ignite), because my launching rod isn't long enough and has a small bend so i'm just guna have it light fireworks instead. I couldn't afford a whole gearbox, hopup and barrel assembly so i just bought a mini like on yours. Did you use a webcam or an RCA security camera on yours?

  • still sounds cool, i used a security cam that i found on sale.

  • I'm so angry at myself!!! I messed everything up in every way possible so now i have to restart. It's a long story :(. The only thing i didnt mess up is the camera i got which might barely be usable.

  • Hey, I've fried a lot of circuits before, it is expected when you are being creative, i usually buy two of everything of the cheap stuff just so I have back up. I remember when I was thirteen i gave up on several projects just because things broke! I did not know any better, I gave up and put a lot of cool projects aside until i was much older. i did not realize that mistakes happen and anything worth doing is worth doing several times to get right.

  • I'm posting the video of version 1.1 which is the basic RC airsoft as a video response to the roomba red with airsoft new video

  • whats awesome is you can have him run around shooting, and then he'll go and clean up after himself (wish the people in my airsoft group did that)

  • umm opinion not saying its bad i think its really awesome but u shud make it to pint up cuzlike if u shoot a shoe.... not gunna hurt very kool gun bro gratz

  • Thanks for the comment! my new video shows it better.

I use this robot to teach kids about robotics. It is designed not to shoot up for safety. I could easily make Elevation control (up-down) via bluetooth but it would not be safe to use around kids. Usually I set up many cans and plastic cups as targets and let them drive it via the laptop. It is very hard to aim when you are not in the same room as you only have the onboard camera for vision.

  • awsome!!

  • oo is that the vacum cleaner thing haha that awesome

  • its made from a gear box

  • ill pay you 800 bucks for it.

  • Sounds good to me!~

But if you buy the book you can have your own for a lot less. It is simple to do and fun.

go to hacking roomba dot com

  • Actually there is a better edited video with nice pics at end, check out my video page for the other one.

  • now if your dog is dragging his ass across the floor, you can shoot it off! What more do you need?

  • I want this. I'm willing to pay for it.

  • now you can protect the carpet...

  • I have seen the Roomba in action on other videos. It's terribly inefficient and does not clean 100% of the room. And although the manufacturer advertises it, I think the 3-4 repetitions that it does on any area is because of this inefficiency and that just slows it down.

If the Roomba knew the length and width of the room already, alongwith other dimensions, then it could potentially clean faster, with one single pass on any area.

  • What do you mean by inefficient? Time? money? energy? a small robot that can travel under furniture can only carry so many batteries and motors, it is a balance of weight, motor size and speed. to do this for a cost that their target market would accept they chose a small 14 volt battery pack and small motors which are of medium quality, the multiple passes are required to catch all the dirt and to ensure that the whole room is covered.

  • creating a robot with a gun in school... thats a great way to get a suspension or expulsion!

  • in high school physics we had a cannon that shot ball bearings in an experiment that was called "shoot the monkey" we learned that an object falls at the same rate regardless of its horizontal velocity. That led to an introduction of orbital dynamics, we went from leonardos cannons to soft landing on a distant planet in one week. It is up to the school boards that we elect to understand what is an apropriate response to a perceived threat.

  • yes, and as a pre-service teacher I would not put too much faith in those school boards to make that distinction... unfortunately we now live in the zero-tolerance era... innovate at your own risk!

  • Every school board is different, playing it safe the whole way through won't get you far.

  • Now for the final version, get NICE gun, like a TM or a CA.

  • maybe you could do something more useful like allowing users to program the room dimensions so that this thing cleans more efficiently.

  • Dosent this contradict the first law of robotics?

  • Sorry to dissapoint everyone, I did not take the video, it was just a quick movie to document the trial run. was planning on shooting a proper video but have not had time. again the purpose was just a quick record of the robot, not to see the airsoft in action.

  • hmm the angle of the camera is wrong and still there is no way to see clear that it really shoots...

  • ''main concept demo version'' ruins it

  • ''main concept demo version'' ruins it

  • now all you need is 100 of those

  • thats really cool. can u control it?
