  • This song is just....beautiful!

  • awesome!

  • this guy does not play the piano, he makes it cry

  • Just lovely! I should make a 1900's Medley <3

  • As much as I have always admired and respected Ennio Morricone as one of the dozen or so truly great film composers, I feel the score is his masterpiece. The music reflects the poignancy of the individual scenes and the drama as a whole with a degree of perfection achieved by the greatest operatic composers, including Wagner!

The film contains so many wonderful scenes, but I think the final shot as Max leaves the music store and walks up the alley with his trumpet affects me the most.

  • impressive scene...!

    viva morricone!

  • Each time I watch this scene I cry. The way he speaks through his music, he transmits peace but at the same time loneliness. There couldn't be a better name for that song!!!...WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE!

  • He is speaking to her with music, saying that she just may be capable of such great happiness that he sees in her eyes, but the world is what it is.......

  • I Hate that at the end, the gentlemen starts talking . . he totally breaks the moment of the splendid song and all those feelings are blown away with that . . . he should have stayed in silence XD. Well that's my opinion.

  • HOW COULD U DISLIKE THIS?!?! it's AMAZING!! i <3 the movie!! so sad :( ennio morricone is an amazing composer <3

  • Couldn't forget you ever since the first day I saw you.

I wish things could be a bit different. Distance could be a bit closer.

I have no idea what you think of me or what you see me as.

All I know is, 我就是喜歡你 and 是很喜歡你。

  • @aden0724 You basically sum up the whole music :)

  • @aden0724 你有膽就講給該聽這話的人聽

  • @dasteufelhund 我們已經在一起了 :)

  • best of bests

  • Isn't this the actor in that weekly show "Lie to Me?" I always liked him.

  • I would love to be a piano player like this.....I do exactly the same when i sit down to play the piano.......you just understand it and it all comes together....check out a couple of my songs.....liquidarkness...extinction........I spent the better half of the year trying to learn this song by ear....i did it, but so not worthy to be put on youtube

  • Nineteen handreeeeed !!!

  • I'd cut off one of my ears and give it to a deaf person so she can listen to this...

  • @oceanzoulou

You than must be a bodhisattwa.

  • @oceanzoulou I guess that's what was on Van Gogh's mind, too.

  • 素晴らしいの一言

  • @yuu0498 screw u

  • This movie is amazing. :)

  • This film makes me cry every time I watch it. It's a truly touching story, and the best part about it is that it's so believable, for a long time I thought it was a true story.

This song is just beautiful, if ever there was a song that could symbolize love, this would be it.

  • 2:42 looks like a fat tim robbins.

  • @canucks16 2:42 more like a fat Robert Sean Leonard :D

  • good! fav

  • apparently there are thirteen people in the world without hearts. this is the most beautiful song of any scene, of any movie, i've ever watched.

  • i love you

  • who got the mp3 ?

  • @siusherry message me your email address...

  • Its an interesting movie, but I find it to be insulting to any competent pianist and musician. Not the music itself, but the portrayal of it...

  • @NevinJarek I think just the opposite, there are special cases of people who are able to play music in the way that the character 1900 does. In fact I think it's the most pure type of music, totally unbiased, full of passion that isn't hidden behind rigid notes. The idea of being able to just look out at something and be able to make music about it, that is a truly special talent I wish I had.

  • The video reminds me of the Helga paintings of Andrew Wyeth.

  • Troppo bello questo film soprattutto la colonna sonora ^_^!!!!

  • Beautiful! Can you feel the emotion within his heart and soul as he's staring intently at the beautiful young lady outside the ship's window? (SIGH) Beautiful. Just. Beautiful.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Music often moves me, but rarely to tears. This piece does it every time, no question.

  • Great movie, totally underappreciated.

  • @jac9876543210 it was NOT underappreciated at the time, believe me xD

  • This song is a good attempt at representing the love of my life.

  • Greatest. Movie. Ever

  • amazing movie

  • Incredibly touching and sincere .. the world is still fine with pieces like this ;)

  • Incredibly touching and sincere .. the world is still fine with pieces like this :)

  • this is one of the best scenes of the movie

  • Totaly agree with you!!

  • The intro sounds like the style of Bil Evans. The melody... expresses what the poverty of language cannot express, to give her beauty its due praise.

  • waaaahhh .. i hate this film... huhuhuh i first saw this film way back in 2001 but still it makes me cry... i hate thif film for making me cry huhuhuh... i love tim in here :).. i love the storyline.. the irony... just love this film :)

  • :| :O

  • God I can't stop watching this video

  • Only italians can film that kind of sequence...Giuseppe Tornatore made "Cinema Paradiso" too. Ditto.

  • @romeropablo I really like cinema paradiso, but this movie, its far beyond, this movie is one of my favorites and even could be my favorite one, and i hope it doesnt be just a italian thing to create so incredibles movie, cause i wanna produce my own movies and if only italians could do so beautifull films, i will feel to dissapointed

  • @dellumn He's Italian. :)

  • damn man it makes me cry.......:X:x:X

  • I need some help!

    the song is extremely beautiful!!

but when I read and play the sheet, the notes from 0:45 to 0:48

doens't sound like the ones in the movie!

    could someone help me?

  • @cryptoranium If you can scan the music you have and email it to me, I can take a look at it for you and try.

  • @cryptoranium

0:45-0:48 is measure 14. Don't forget to keep the D sharp for the the second half of the measure and it helps if you have a sustain peddle. the notes should be something like this:

    chords in ( )

    (e f# a) d f# (d# f# b) (f# b d#) (d# f# g# b) d

    play very softly

  • I loved the movie but towards the end 1900n started acting and looking a lot psychotic.lol like a serial killer or something.. :) nevertheless, superb film!

  • I just saw this movie!!! It was inspiring. I have a question though.. the scene where he tells the girl that he knows her father. How does he know him? I know I've heard the line "voice of the ocean" somewhere in the film too but can't quite remember who said it exactly. So who is the girl's father? And can Tim Roth actually play the piano well?

  • @lilsis No, Tim Roth cannot play the piano at all. He trained for 6 months on how to fake it. That's a true story!

  • @bluefairyfreak the fuck didnt he just spend six months learning how to play?

  • This music makes me cry......

  • So much love expressed in so few notes, so short a piece, to someone so close, yet just beyond one's reach, and destined to leave from one...

  • I kind of didn't want the lady to go away.

  • This upright piano has a suspiciously decent tone :-)

  • Reminds me of someone I knew a long time ago that's gone now.

  • She's a portrait of loveliness...

  • I LOVE 1900.

  • I LOVEEEE his face while he's looking at the girl in the window. I love u,man..

  • i like this girl's lips ! she looks so pure and innocent . And of course a kind of beautiful.

  • i ADORE THIS FILM AND MUSIC !

  • Ennio Morricone is brilliant. I love all his compositions.

  • Genius.

    Lovely character by Tim Roth.

What a great & sad movie

  • I` ve seen this film thousands of time just because of this melody ... this is the real "feeling" ... the real music

  • Where can I download this music sheet?

  • One of the greatest undiscovered love songs of all time...I am surprised that even more thousands have not yet commented on the glorious beauty of this Ennio Morricone melody....that's okay...I've lived most of my life experiencing the greatest classical music and in comparison, it's just about the same. Poor unfortunate fools that have not felt the tender stirrings of this deeply soulful song.

    cubanbach 1 minute ago

  • Does anyone have a link to this sheet music?? ...must...learn...to...play...>_<

  • @TheSnek901 I think I have the piano sheet of this song in my other computer...let me see and i'll let you know!

  • @mharleydavidson can you send me a message if you find the piano sheet! I love this song! Thanks

  • @swooish i want the sheet too!

  • i was absolutely blown away by the piano battle scene but this... was beyond compare. my favorite scene thus far. it's one of those "the melody speaks for itself type of thing" i love how he looked like he's in a trance the moment he saw her.

  • 12 dislikes ? omg

  • The note At 2:16 is the perfect note for

"no dont leave i love you" x

  • @Smelliifull23 Just what I was thinking- "hey wait- where are you going?"

  • @Smelliifull23 this is also when his friend realises the driving factor of that beautiful piece

  • amazing cinematography

  • This melody is WONDERFUL!

I love this melody, its calm... its emotions

  • ..... WOW .....

  • its truly beautiful and truly heartbreaking to see this. Hearing this is beautiful, but to watch him fall in love before our eyes, its too much. He understands that they're from to different worlds, but he can't help but to hope. To know that this is pretty much the closest he'll get to her before he stops her from getting off of the boat, then letting her go... out of his life, breaks my heart. Just hearing this makes me cry 10x. never mind watching it.

  • I Love This Song So much

  • I love this song but part of me really wants to hear what the song would be like if he kept playing the jazzy version at the beginning.

  • @gwilym1991 no the song is actually written to be like this it isnt because of the girl that makes him play soft xD

  • I cried to this movie.

If you rolled out in front of me a keyboard of millions of keys, millions and billions of keys that would never end. That's the truth, they`ll never end. That keyboard is infinite... and if that keyboard is infinite, then on that keyboard there is no music you can play. You're sitting on the wrong bench......That is God's piano.

  • The most beautiful language direct from heart is love...

  • At least his piano miming is better than most other actor's instrument miming.

  • In love with this movie and songs

    This song make me cry;(

    The best movie ever!!

  • BRAVOOOO!!

  • i was watching his fingering, and i laughed because its so off from the actual music

  • I love this movie:)

  • the best movie!

  • Oh,,, It's a pure. how sweeeeeeet :o

  • i love the way he starts playing slow when the girls shows up as if hes making the song up as he goes lol

  • an untransmitted love ...love was gone with the wind .

  • She doesn't see him, she sees her own reflection..

  • It is very similar to Rhapsody on the theme by Paganini - Variation no.18 (S.Ravmaninov)

  • Whoever thought this is perverted is a pervert!

The movie is... i don't know... SUPERB! SUBLIME... SUsomething...

  • this is really a very entertaining movie. the power of music and its ability to express our inner emotions is an amazing thing. i recommend this movie if you get the chance.

  • As we can see in the ratings (or statistic :) there are 10 retards for every 994 people.

  • no he just played HER music...in the movie he would see people and would play the music that he saw fit for the persons life.. oh and yes he might of feel in love with her beauty but i think it was her innocence too..

    awesome movie..but sad..

  • @ZoePappas Thank you for your astute observation. The music makes the movie complete. It's the only part of the world where he feels at home, even when he's sailing around the dance floor during the storm. And it's his offensive weapon against the taunts of Jelly Roll Morton. His theme is the double time solo section when with the band and the beginning of the Love theme

  • one of the most beautiful moviev i´ve ever seen! music by ennio morricone is absolutely amazing!!!

  • She's very pretty, looks like a child.

And this scene is so romantic...

  • perfect scene

  • A story written by an italian writer (Alessandro Baricco), a film directed by an italian director (Giuseppe Tornatore) a song composed by an italian compositor (Ennio Morricone) and played by an italian musician (Gilda Buttà).

    This is my country: Italy.

  • Hey anyone know where i can find piano music like this, in its slow melody this was beautiful along with Ennio Morricone.

  • Gosh! I love this movie!! Tim Roth is so fuc*in' perfect !!

  • what's the name of the girl? she's gorgeous

  • C' est Mélanie Thierry , a french actress

  • It's a little funny how his upright piano magically has the acoustics of a concert grand.

On that note, that chord at 2:16 was perfect... It said, "wait, don't go!"

  • perfect~~

  • thanks for posting this..love the music and the movie

  • i love this movie....i cant believe that its so old

  • one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard....perfection!

  • I wonder how it really sounded when he was pretending to play lol all those wrong keys.

  • @hlmynms Right! haha many C# and the piece is in G key... but it doesn't matter!

  • Gilda Butta who plays the piano for these recordings was married to the great jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani!:)

  • is that the actor from Lie to Me ?

  • @Gagarin235 Yes, he is. Tim Roth.

  • If I was a millionare I would by me a personal pianist to play these beatiful medies.:-)lTim Roth was amazing in this.

  • @JRRDPR

George Eastman of Eastman Kodak fame (Roc, NY) sort of did that! He founded Eastman school of music and would have musicians play in his conservatory while he ate breakfast.....quite a wonderful experience to life

  • This movie is one of my all time favorites.

And Ennio Morricone is so great...

    :)

  • L'ho rivisto da poco...che bello !!!

Circondati da programmi/spazzatura come siamo...(e forse la spazzatura si dovrebbe offendere per il paragone)

  • my favourite movie

  • @ 0:56 sounds like Bill Evans song Peace piece! a beautiful song!

  • ennio morricone's one of my fav filmscore composers since the days of the clint eastwood westerns 1960s. he's one of the great all time composers..kudo's

  • shes so beautiful

  • I love how the song starts out all jazzy and fast and cool,

    then hes all,

"WHOA! STOP! BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WINDOW!"

then it totally changes to this beautiful slow melody.

  • @EstevanMusic No one needs your narrative, the music explains herself perfectly fine.

  • @EstevanMusic When I played to my (almost completely musically illiterate) (ex)-girlfried she said "How can you start with something so ordinary and end up with something so full and beautiful?"

The best critic in my whole life (even if recalling how painful was the rehearsing for the first page).

  • anyone!!!! sheetmusic of this piece!!!! i cant find it!!! :(((

  • @klaasklont - send me your email and it's yours.

  • Fantastic Movie!!

  • she is so beautiful!!!!
