"For Pete's Sake" was written by Peter Tork & Joseph Richards. The song's often thought to be titled "In This Generation" or "This Generation" The phrase "For Pete's Sake" doesn't appear in the lyrics.Tork said "It was basically me playing these chords at my house, and my then roommate, Joey Richards, was with me, and he threw in a couple of odds and ends of lines as I was going along. It just fell right into place. It was my first song on a Monkees' record and the first song that I had written"
Great to be able to remember when they first showed, every kid wanted to start his or her band. Even the Beatles thought the Monkees were great. I saw them without Mike, at Pine Knob sometime in the late eighties...don't remember which year.
Maybe Davey is playing with John and George, with others that have gone before....
@moneyclaude2500 if you ever want to look at the Monkees T.v. show ,they show the Monkees ,every weekend on a network cable channel called Antenna T.v.,It,s on your local cable channel,it comes on at 5:00 P:M
I remember this was the closing theme of the show...the picture of their four heads on the orange background would flash and then each of their faces, followed by each of them with silly expressions. When I was a kid, I had such a crush on Davy so my mom took a Polaroid picture of the tv screen when his face popped up. It sounds so cheap now that I think of it, haha.
I remember when i was a little boy they played the reruns after cartoons on Saturdays back in Late 60's and early 70's.After the show was canceled I always liked the show very funny. They were MTV.Before MTV came to be.They have been so under rated I guess some one else was suppose to get credit for putting them together as a group but without their talent what we would have.Nothing better than this I bet
Boy were those fun days!! I remember it all to well, from the beginning to the end every thing about the Monkees was to cool. I would pretend to play the guitar and put on a "Mike hat" when this song was on. The Monkee Mobile GTO was to die for!! I really wanted to be the 5th Monkee
Oh, one more thing: great cartoon likeness of the guys! =D The cartoonist who The Monkees in cartoon form must be complemented for a job well-done! =)
By this time, the boys were allowed to play their own instruments on their records, which also allowed them to go on tour in 1967, becoming one of (or maybe the) highest-grossing concert tours that year.
@migamilan I've been fan since 1976, when Los Angeles TV station KTTV Ch. 11 showed this show for the 1976/77, the 10th anniversary of this program. =)
You're right about the first half of it: This tune was at the end of the show, but I believe the "still shot" pics of them (top center) was the only thing used -- the solo shots/funny faces was the intro with the Monkee's theme... I have 2 episodes on VHS and this is the way it was - or they could've changed it up, but that's what my videos show --- ok... someone come on behind me and say, "WHO CARES?" lol
I love this tune... you can hear the "freedom" in the lyrics and how simple things were to live by in these days, despite the war -- now, everything is screwed up with no relief in sight and it might as well be Viet Nam all over again... and no MONKEES to make you feel any better!
@1958marky Yeah, at that point (early 1967) nobody realized how badly the war was going yet, there was an insane quantity of great music pouring out of the studios, and, of course, it was before all of the 1968 badness. A year later, the Monkees' TV show got cancelled because nobody was in the mood for frivolity anymore.
Excellent. "Produced by Robert Rafelson and Bert Schneider" "Valerie Kairys as Val" "Monte Landis as Mr. Zero" "John London as Bassist" "'Salesman' written by Craig Vincent Smith" "'No Time' written by Hank Cicalo" "'Love Is Only Sleeping' written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil" "'Pleasant Valley Sunday' written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King" "All produced by Douglas farthing Hatlelid" "A RAYBERT Production"
RIP Davey Jones we will miss you
