Ill join the comments and rant. My opinion super mario sunshine over 9000x better. It has better replayability. I play smg twice and quit. Sms ive played at least 6 times
Super Mario Sunshine, better level designs, not VERY hard and not too easy, music ties with Galaxy, voice acting (excluding Bowser's voice, which was horrible), more free roam chances, FLUDD (even though I wish it was only used where it was needed), 8 lives, and a better story.
ARE YALL HIGH? EVERY ONE KNOWS THT SUNSHINE IS THE WEAKEST OF THE SERIES GALAXY IS 50X BETTER THAN SUNSHINE THE LEVEL DESIGNS THE GAMEPLAY THE MUSIC THE BOSSES AND EVERYTHING ABOUT GALAXY IS BETTER THAN SUNSHINE SUPER MARIO 64 IS BETTER THAN SUNSHINE
wow you people dont know what a good game is. i completely agree the galaxy is BY FAR a better game than sunshine, in fact it may be one of THE best games EVER MADE EVER. sunshine was so stupid
I shouldn't say whether Galaxy is better or Sunshine is, because, I've never played Sunshine, because, 1) I've never had a GCN, 2) I've never seen it in stores since the Wii took over Nintendo's home console department (which will soon have another new master), and 3) I don't have a credit card to buy it off of the internet.
i liked super mario sunshine better because it wasnt as linear i felt like i had freedom to "mess" around more however in super mario galaxy there is a direct path in whitch you have to follow it just seems alot more restricted
@rollingmusicman Yes, I played Sunshine before. I own Sunshine and Galaxy for my Wii. I like Galaxy better because it has improved graphics, music, environments, and you can finally play as Luigi. I know that Galaxy was a tad too easy, but I just enjoyed it more overall. I never actually beat Sunshine yet, but I beat Galaxy many times. Other that that, I still like both of them. I also played Sunshine a lot when I was still a child. I remember that my friend had to help me out sometimes.
@Darknessgamekid wtf are you high or something? sunshines story was well developed with all the cutscenes and voice acting (even if the voices werent all good), galaxy had pretty much no story, except "peach got kidnapped"
@simba90s galaxy had a wonderful story, just no cutscenes and voice and such. peach getting kidnapped is only one of the parts of the story. don't get blown.up about this, both are good, and it's so friggin usual for peachy to get kidnapped by bowzr. (shitty monster that he is!)
Here's how I look at it. SM64 was good, but not as good as our rose-tinted nostalgia glasses would have us believe. SMS had a number of issues, particularly the overuse of red and blue coins, but had the potential to be the best game in the series. SMG has by far some of the best visuals and soundtrack, but is a bit too linear. SMG2, though having the same visuals as SMG, just feels like a game that's trying to get by using the name Galaxy as a crutch. Here's my list:
Super Mario Sunshine (SMS) by the longest shot! SMS had you on the edge of your seat all the time! you come out a portal and Toad tells you while you were gone, the enemy came and took Peach! then he takes her to Corona Mountain...then a GIANT FLOOD comes and wipes out Isle Delfino...then Giant Bowser was awesome! on Galaxy (SMG) you do generally nothing but fly across the cosmos until you find Bowser...there was NO sense of storyline in SMG...SMG2 had a story, but wasnt as good as SMG1
Super Mario Sunshine was one of the few Mario games that tried something different and it got bashed for it. Who the hell cares if it's not the same as SM64. I thought SM64 was good until fanboys started jumping on the "this game is god" bandwagon. It really isn't. It's SMB in 3D with quite possibly the shittiest back story in a video game. SMG is good but it tried to hard to be serious and had TOO MUCH back story. SMS was evened out pretty good. It had a decent back story for a Mario game.
sunshine by a long way, i've got mario galaxy 1 & 2 n i've completed em both but not with max stars can't be arsed, i only wish sunshine had more shines to collect ;(
@blackbeltjedi no acctually, you see, i think there both the same when you look at them, and on mario kart wii, it looks like the used the same sprites as double dash i think anyway.
Super Mario Galaxy because it has WAY more levels, amazing music, awesome gameplay, heart-touching storyline, and I felt like I was actually playing a Mario game, unlike Sunshine.
I used to play Super Mario Sunshine almost everyday back in the 2003 days (age 12). I was very frustrated sometimes and my friend helped me beat some levels. When I first played Super Mario Galaxy 1 (2007), I was much more satisfied because I was able to beat it many times. Sunshine was just too hard for me to beat. I like Galaxy way better than Sunshine. I also like Galaxy better cause it has Luigi as a playable character. :)
I have been keeping sunshine longer and beat both games at the same amount of time, but Mario Galaxy was interesting when I played it. Sunshine and Galaxy both had camera issues, Sunshine had the difficulty and Galaxy had the Graphic/gimmicks. They both had great plots and all but I must say for me Galaxy was more easier by one star. 242 stars in Galaxy, 180 blue coins in Sunshine. I have to say both are almost a tie, not that one is best, Nintendo may have though of themes for Mario every game.
@TheKittyfritters I like Super Mario Sunshine kinda, but I don't like how it's too hard to beat. In Fact, I got rid of Sunshine a long time ago, and haven't played it in years.
I don't know. I think I like Sunshine better. Personally I find the controls to be easier, and Sunshine had a lot more exploration and story. The only problem was that there wasn't enough variety compared to Galaxy and searching for blue coins got annoying. But I got to give Sunshine credit, it was my very first video game ever!
i like galaxy better because in sunshine i didnt like the way mario jump becuse it was hard to jump in the exact spot you want. i dont have mario galaxy i have mario galaxy 2 and sunshine and i like galaxy 2 better
I prefer Sunshine. I didnt like Galaxy bc you would have to travel between little planets and what not making it tedious. They should haave just made Sunshine 2.
@SilverOmegaDotCom Yep I grew up with classic games like mario but nowadays alot of kids have ps3 and xbox 360 and talk shit on cod and halo like little posers sadly.
hmm, im not sure. now as you can see, galaxy has better graphics, but sunshine had a bit better controls. i personaly have had more memories from sunshine. so i really dont know, i loved both of them
Why does everyone like Sunshine better? I think Galaxy is better because it gets you into an environment that you normally don't see everyday. Also, you now guys have Luigi as a playable character, and you guys wanted to have him in Galaxy so bad. How is Sunshine better than Galaxy?
@SiMgUrL1721 sunshine has an actual plot in the story mode. plus a plot twist. ask yourself this, what would mario kart, mario baseball, mario power tennis, and galaxy 1 & 2 be without super mario sunshine? no piantas. no nokis. no cool stages. no 3d yoshi. no shine sprites. no cataquacks. no shadow mario. no bowser jr. now what has galaxy done for the mario series. rosalina...thats it? wow! which game has the better impact on the mario universe? SUNSHINE!!!!!!
Super Mario Galaxy is too easy, Super Mario Sunshine is a challenge, but Super Mario Galaxy has better graphics. Super Mario Sunshine has a better story line. It was more of a relief when I beat Sunshine, and honestly, Galaxy is incredibly tacky, too dramatic for a Mario game.
galaxy i actually believe is FAR inferior to super mario 64 GALAXY IS A CHARMLESS LOAD OF CRAP, it has NOTHING on mario 64. THE GALAXY BOSSES ARE WAYY TOO EASY AND THE CONTROLS ARE WONKY AS SHIT,unlike super mario 64's super easy and simple controls..overall galaxy has terrible controls, easy bosses, annoying music, stupid comet spaceship thingies, spheres tht make those wonky controls worse, and lacks the charm super mario 64 gives....6/10
the first few levels of sunshine are simply pure fun, but the later levels feel unfinished, unpolished and rushed. i still however prefer the way mario moves and controls in sunshine over galaxy. mario's movements feel very fluid in sunshine. you can easily repeatedly side jump over and over, and that spin jump is a lot of fun to pull off also. his footsteps sound cooler in sunshine too.
i prefere sunshine because it had such a big freedom in the game but do note i´m not saying that galaxy is bad i´m only say that sunshine is a little bit better in my opinion
Sunshine had major issues with the camera angles. especially the hotel part. but sometimes galaxy has camera issues aswell. and dont forget that you can even play as luigi in galaxy 1 & 2. and galaxy 2 has the green stars too. much more replay value than sunshine
Out of all the Mario games i prefered Galaxy 1 and 2 over Sunshine and 64 anyday, the main reason being in Sunshine the red coin challenges in the obstacle course stages, the ones where you lose Fludd for the first time were very annoying and the same goes for finding those blue coins. It was a tedious task to say the least. Next the camera in Super Mario 64 was pretty quirky which made the gameplay difficult in a way and the same goes for controlling Mario to, Galaxy wasn't like this at all.
Afther galaxy 1 and 64 about being the same Then two to 3 years later the best mario game came out MARIO GALAXY 2 came out and it was the best it had everything and everything i wanted it had 242 stars over all and i was looking up the rateing for galaxy 2 and it got a 10 out of 10 a perfect for the hole game and the only thing that was wrong with the game is that it was hard galaxy 2 was better then 64 and super mario bros for wii is better then mario sunshine
OK first When Mario 64 cameout it was the best mario game ever it was fun and hard and then mario Sunshine came in a little later i play it and like it alot it was hard to finsh but the main boss such ass i still thought that mario 64 was better and then a few years afther Mario galaxy came out and i check it out and loved it i thought 64 and galaxy 1 was about the same i couldint tell which one was better
Mario Sunshine was my favorite of the 3. It had the best hub packed with stuff to do, big explorable levels, better missions and it was beautiful to look at. And Fludd made it even more fun. I like Galaxy 1 & 2 but the linear style ruined the experience. They both were easier to beat and the stars were extremely repetive (Mario Galaxy 2 mostly) though I guess the big update with the controls, music and graphics made up for it. Though I also criticize Galaxy 2 for been nearly identical to first.
@Diggler277 64 didnt have a story line. thats why the levels were so boring. sunshine has an awesome story line and each stage fulfils a certain aspect of stiry mode. galaxy 1 was bowser comes from no where with no intensions and takes peach's...CASTLE...and starts all the nonsense about crap and mario has to do a billion levels that hav nothing to do with bowser or the so called half of a story. rosalina doesnt even make sense. she didnt do crap. and i like piantas and nokis more than lumas
some peaple get mad over sunshine! WHY IT WAS A GOOD GAME THEY TRYED SOMETHING ODD TO MARIO IN IT SURE I KNOW. but other from that what is there to hate about it?
@feista123456789 I really am getting sick of seeing people hate on Sunshine just because it was DIFFERENT from Super Mario 64 and introduced more mechanics and gameplay to the series. Also, the same person who created Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the SAME PERSON who created Super Mario Sunshine.
mario 64 was the best IMO, between these two id go with galaxy because i liked the levels and storyline. sunshine was good for being large and more free-roam. but galaxy gave me a successfull fealing after beating it. sunshine made me feal like "what, its over?.. meh" after completing it.
Sunshine has sentimental value for me, but I think it's vastly inferior to either of the Galaxy games, though to be fair I haven't played through the game in years (when I started playing it again maybe a year or so ago, I found myself getting bored soon after the initial nostalgia wore off).
It's too early to fairly judge whether either Galaxy game is better than 64, but I think there's a good chance people will generally consider it the best ever Mario game a decade or so from now.
@mariofan551 Galaxy's bosses were FAR from unoriginal, nor were the levels, though Sunshine's levels were quite unique as well. Also, Sunshine re-used the Blooper boss battle three times, and re-used the Pollution Piranha Plant FIVE DAMN TIMES, so Galaxy was WAY better on bosses than Sunshine, dude (Hell, they were fun to fight in Galaxy 2, as well...)
Sunshine, in comparison to most of the mario series, is probably the worst ive ever played. Christ i preffer Luigi's Mansion to Mario Sunshine. Fair enough there's personal preference but comparing it to mario galaxy is like comparing a ferarri to a ford mondeo. No competition, galaxy is the best hands down and probably one of the best games ever made.
@madcapoperator eh hem WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME LUIGIS MANSHION IS GREAT BUT IT DOES NOT BEAT OUT SUNSHINE IF YOU ASK ME SUNSHINE WINS EASY GALXEY SUCK IT WAS UNORIGANEL CRAP UNLIKE SUNSHINE WHITCH DIFFERES FROM THE REST ALL IN ALL I SAY SUPER MARIO 64 WAS THE BEST ONE YET
I think that a good balance is needed n galaxy 2 provides alot. When The PSX & N64 came out alot of game series took a turn for the worst IMO (ie mortal kombat, metroid & sonic just to name a few) Now that there's been a big movement in the game lines to bring back that original game play from the series while still maintaining 3d graphics. Hell, the first Mario game to offer fairly large levels for their time, but still keep a semi-linear level is SMW for the SNES
Actually, I think 1985's Super Mario Bros. was the greatest of all time. It was mario's greatest adventure ever...closely followed by an extremely close tie between Super Mario Bros. 3 & Super Mario World.
I prefer sunshine overall. Sunshine offered a style of gameplay in the mario series I really enjoyed. It had a big amount of exploring and had a lot of freedom. Plus it's pretty fun to run around spraying people with water...Galaxy was great with it's graphics and plot. I enjoyed the gameplay. but it's style is very limited in exploration due to the fact that the game is planet based. It's kind of a one way trip on all galaxies, go from one planet to the next.
@eviltwinnumber2 Linearity VS. Non-linearity. You're one of the first to actually bring it up!
Super Mario 64 was the best, but between Galaxy and Sunshine I have to give Galaxy the upper hand. While Sunshine had large levels and put some emphasis on exploration, the episodes and blue coins were quite annoying. The best parts of Sunshine were the linear minigames played a-la Galaxy, and Galaxy made them a hundred times better.
@mariomguy I think Galaxy is the best. Better than SM64. Not that SM64 is bad, but it feels a bit dated to me now, when compared to Galaxy. I guess the controls just don't feel as precise and feel kind of stiff.
although i like galaxy a little better than sunshine i agree with you about why you think its better. i think that sunshine was a lot better than most people say it was. and in my opinion i think it had probably some of the hardest parts in a 3D mario game *corona mountain, the "secret" levels etc.*
Heres the order of greatnessfrom least to greatest.
Mario 64<Mario Sunshine<Mario Galaxy2<Mario Galaxy<Mario Sunshine(galaxy parts)
there were small parts on mario galaxy were flodd wass taken.THOSE are the best mario games.they were RIDICULOUSLY difficult and required all of marios moves, are you could not survive.
to me sunshine is much better than 64 but galaxy still beats sunshine. haven't gotten galaxy 2 because it's way too similar to one. I don't want the same game over with just new levels because that's just milking galaxy. I've also heard that G2 has less creative level design but i know for a fact im not getting it. i sorta wanna get new super mario bros wii looks pretty fun.
@rufflesthemonkey Get New Super Mario Wii and Donkey Kong Country. You were told right about Galaxy 2. I love Mario Galaxy and Sunshine, but Galaxy 2 was just a bad expansion pack with no story.
Super Mario Sunshine is better imo.

niickerstar 4 months ago
I think Sunshine is better because:
1. Its story was actually relevant.
2. Each level had depth; in Galaxy, I didn't care about any of the levels at all and they were all very linear.
3. FLUDD was very fun and interesting compared to the very temporary-feeling power-ups in Galaxy.
4. The bosses were also more fun and interesting.
5. The overworld in Sunshine had more depth than a THIRD of the levels in Galaxy combined. And that's probably an under-exaggeration.

@TheKittyfritters I like Super Mario Sunshine kinda, but I don't like how it's too hard to beat. In Fact, I got rid of Sunshine a long time ago, and haven't played it in years.
SiMgUrL1721 9 months ago
Mario 64- Best replay value.
Mario Sunshine- Best challenge and difficulty.
Mario Galaxy- The one you have the most blast when playing through.
All have their ups and downs, but Galaxy (2) is my overall favorite. I can't wait for Super Mario 3DS!
RedYoshiReturns 9 months ago
Super Mario 64 is the best, because of it's "sandbox" -style. Galaxy on the other hand is much to linear.
Another thing I don't like in Galaxy is the final boss: In 64, Bowser is quite challenging, in Galaxy, he's easy, and in Galaxy 2, he's pathethic.

BUT MARIO GALAXY 2 IS BETTER
animegamer123100 10 months ago
I don't know. I think I like Sunshine better. Personally I find the controls to be easier, and Sunshine had a lot more exploration and story. The only problem was that there wasn't enough variety compared to Galaxy and searching for blue coins got annoying. But I got to give Sunshine credit, it was my very first video game ever!

Why does everyone like Sunshine better? I think Galaxy is better because it gets you into an environment that you normally don't see everyday. Also, you now guys have Luigi as a playable character, and you guys wanted to have him in Galaxy so bad. How is Sunshine better than Galaxy?
SiMgUrL1721 1 year ago
@SiMgUrL1721 sunshine has an actual plot in the story mode. plus a plot twist. ask yourself this, what would mario kart, mario baseball, mario power tennis, and galaxy 1 & 2 be without super mario sunshine? no piantas. no nokis. no cool stages. no 3d yoshi. no shine sprites. no cataquacks. no shadow mario. no bowser jr. now what has galaxy done for the mario series. rosalina...thats it? wow! which game has the better impact on the mario universe? SUNSHINE!!!!!!
Itsuchi2 11 months ago

@roleplayingnoob i think you need to re-post this comment on Super mario galaxy vs super mario 64 lol
Itsuchi2 11 months ago
the first few levels of sunshine are simply pure fun, but the later levels feel unfinished, unpolished and rushed. i still however prefer the way mario moves and controls in sunshine over galaxy. mario's movements feel very fluid in sunshine. you can easily repeatedly side jump over and over, and that spin jump is a lot of fun to pull off also. his footsteps sound cooler in sunshine too.
SkankinDevil89 1 year ago
I think sunshine is way better than galaxy. :P

i prefere sunshine because it had such a big freedom in the game but do note i´m not saying that galaxy is bad i´m only say that sunshine is a little bit better in my opinion
Karogash 1 year ago
Sunshine had major issues with the camera angles. especially the hotel part. but sometimes galaxy has camera issues aswell. and dont forget that you can even play as luigi in galaxy 1 & 2. and galaxy 2 has the green stars too. much more replay value than sunshine

blacksaboth6 1 year ago
Out of all the Mario games i prefered Galaxy 1 and 2 over Sunshine and 64 anyday, the main reason being in Sunshine the red coin challenges in the obstacle course stages, the ones where you lose Fludd for the first time were very annoying and the same goes for finding those blue coins. It was a tedious task to say the least. Next the camera in Super Mario 64 was pretty quirky which made the gameplay difficult in a way and the same goes for controlling Mario to, Galaxy wasn't like this at all.

Afther galaxy 1 and 64 about being the same Then two to 3 years later the best mario game came out MARIO GALAXY 2 came out and it was the best it had everything and everything i wanted it had 242 stars over all and i was looking up the rateing for galaxy 2 and it got a 10 out of 10 a perfect for the hole game and the only thing that was wrong with the game is that it was hard galaxy 2 was better then 64 and super mario bros for wii is better then mario sunshine
jokerslicer 1 year ago

I Love the hell out of sunshine, it's awesome.
Galaxy/2 are ok, but nearly beat sunshine if it's your first playthrough
I can't stand 64, you can beat it without too much effort and the levels are kinda boring.
Diggler277 1 year ago 2
@Diggler277 64 didnt have a story line. thats why the levels were so boring. sunshine has an awesome story line and each stage fulfils a certain aspect of stiry mode. galaxy 1 was bowser comes from no where with no intensions and takes peach's...CASTLE...and starts all the nonsense about crap and mario has to do a billion levels that hav nothing to do with bowser or the so called half of a story. rosalina doesnt even make sense. she didnt do crap. and i like piantas and nokis more than lumas

feista123456789 1 year ago
@feista123456789 I really am getting sick of seeing people hate on Sunshine just because it was DIFFERENT from Super Mario 64 and introduced more mechanics and gameplay to the series. Also, the same person who created Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the SAME PERSON who created Super Mario Sunshine.
StormSnake0618 1 year ago
mario 64 was the best IMO, between these two id go with galaxy because i liked the levels and storyline. sunshine was good for being large and more free-roam. but galaxy gave me a successfull fealing after beating it. sunshine made me feal like "what, its over?.. meh" after completing it.
SM64 will always be my favourite.
Shad0vvTheHedgeh0g 1 year ago
Sunshine has sentimental value for me, but I think it's vastly inferior to either of the Galaxy games, though to be fair I haven't played through the game in years (when I started playing it again maybe a year or so ago, I found myself getting bored soon after the initial nostalgia wore off).
It's too early to fairly judge whether either Galaxy game is better than 64, but I think there's a good chance people will generally consider it the best ever Mario game a decade or so from now.
HipHopAus 1 year ago
SUNSHINE it has bigger levels and the engine dome in galaxy has the most UNORIGINAL levels including the boss!
mariofan551 1 year ago

No competition, galaxy is the best hands down and probably one of the best games ever made.

raid89100 1 year ago

But out of those 2...I'll go with sunshine.
xlixity 1 year ago
The only thing that Super Mario 64 has on Galaxy is the final bowser battle song.
NoMoreDudes 1 year ago
I prefer sunshine overall. Sunshine offered a style of gameplay in the mario series I really enjoyed. It had a big amount of exploring and had a lot of freedom. Plus it's pretty fun to run around spraying people with water...Galaxy was great with it's graphics and plot. I enjoyed the gameplay. but it's style is very limited in exploration due to the fact that the game is planet based. It's kind of a one way trip on all galaxies, go from one planet to the next.
eviltwinnumber2 1 year ago 21
@eviltwinnumber2 Linearity VS. Non-linearity. You're one of the first to actually bring it up!
Super Mario 64 was the best, but between Galaxy and Sunshine I have to give Galaxy the upper hand. While Sunshine had large levels and put some emphasis on exploration, the episodes and blue coins were quite annoying. The best parts of Sunshine were the linear minigames played a-la Galaxy, and Galaxy made them a hundred times better.
mariomguy 1 year ago 11
@mariomguy I think Galaxy is the best. Better than SM64. Not that SM64 is bad, but it feels a bit dated to me now, when compared to Galaxy. I guess the controls just don't feel as precise and feel kind of stiff.
JonnyJinx04 11 months ago 3
@eviltwinnumber2
although i like galaxy a little better than sunshine i agree with you about why you think its better. i think that sunshine was a lot better than most people say it was. and in my opinion i think it had probably some of the hardest parts in a 3D mario game *corona mountain, the "secret" levels etc.*
