  • Sounds like top end Noise to me.

  • wow that sounds like shit my straight 6 in my jeep with 300,000 sounds better than that

  • Did the noise go away when the engine warmed up? Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

  • rod knock???

  • lol my car is 21 years old and its just starting todo that lol that car is shit for its age.

  • THATS A SWEET DASH!

  • igot bitch slap i love my vy ss 350 chev ls1 some 1 put ur steering wheel on the wrong side mate lol

  • You should hear my sisters 4.8 V8 silverado, it rattles really bad, but only does it at idle, can't tell what it is almost sounds like a rod knock. Yours almost sounds like rocker noise to me.

  • I don't hear anything. Piston slap makes it sound like a diesel engine, is that what you are hearing?

  • Some motors and almost all LS motors have a certain amount of piston slap ! if it dont go away after the engine is up to temp then it might be something more serious

  • Bankrupt.

  • Insightful!

  • just beccause they call it a GTO doesn't mean it deserved the name. What an embarrasing representation of what was one of the coolest cars ever made. All you have is a sported out grand am/ family car. Sorry bout the slap though.

  • I can totally appreciate that everyone has their own opinion, it's what makes the world go 'round. That said, opinions are best when they are backed by knowledge which, unfortunately, yours are not. The original GTO was a $296 option on the Pontiac Tempest, which was basically what? That's right, a family car. And to your point that it is a sported out GrandAm. The modern GTO is sourced from GMs Aussie Division, Holden (Monaro, BMW competitor) then add the 400HP LS2. Eats mustangs for lunch :)

  • @jkalisz01 right on brother! i have a 2006 GTO and a 2004 grand am and they are no where near alike! if i feel like drivig around bangin on mustangs and hondas i drive my gto when picking up the family i drive the grand am

  • Make sure your exhaust and intake manifold are tight.

  • this could be that one of your pistons is cracked or broke a peace of it and its floting aronud in the cylinder causing that noice. the only way to find out is to pull the heads off & examine the pistons. my buddy blew cylinder 5 & 7, but it was on spray.

  • Yes , that is piston slap . Although many vehicles can have piston slap ,and not necissarily a problem , General

Motors are worse than others. High spec engines have no piston slap , that is why i do'nt buy GM vehicles.

  • Does it do it when you accelerate? My Charger R/T has piston slap and you can hear mostly when I accelerate. Does anyone know how much it is to fix piston slap?

  • how ever much you wanna pay for a DIFFERENT engine.

  • complete and total rebuild.

source: rebuilding my motor, to fix several problems. including piston slap and GM's famous lower manifold gasket leak on the 3100 series.

if i couldn't turn a wrench, and if it were cheaper i would buy a different car. but that's just buying someone else's problems.

  • Don't sound like Piston Slap. The one way you can tell if It sounds like a diesel Engine.

  • average fuel 11 mpg lol

  • that's what a cam, heavy foot and mostly city driving will get ya... ;)

  • i hear the same on my 05. took it to dealer and was told this is normal. makes piston slap noise only when cold. this is to allow for expansion when it heats up.
