@troellie1 Yes. Look closely. The first parachute was launched out the white bucket right out of the plane. Also, when he cut away, the pilot chute stayed with the canopy. The pilot chute would have lifted off the canopy if it was his emergency parachute. Not to mention it is an FAA law that you must have three parachutes for "intentional cutaways", which what this was. This was an intentional stunt jump done by a very experienced skydiver.

pretty cool stunt I think when I'm due for a new canopy I will do the same. and he actually jumped with 3 chutes, 1st being the one in the bucket, 2nd being his main he pulled and the 3rd being his reserve chute....just in case :)

@sparkysmini I agree fully, it is quite an awesome stunt and I would also try it with an old canopy ready to be retired. Other conditions required would be let out high (at least 8000 feet) to provide more time, and that 3rd tertiary parachute, recommended for any intentional cutaway.

Those naysayers who disapprove of this stunt have probably never tried parachuting, or have the spirit of trying something new and exciting. If you don't live on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

@donzx10 That was not the reserve. This was a test. He shoot flames to his parachute. You can see at 0:48 he disconnected his chute. The second chute was another chute, but not the reserve. If it was not just a test, he wouldn't have his camara probably, and he wouldn't been drop at that altitude, and he would not have opened his chute immidiatly.

A whole parachute rig, including container, amin and reserve parachute canopies and AAD will probably cost about 5000 Euros, but a main canopy alone about $1600 US or 1200 Euros. An old main canopy with many jumps on it is worth much less.
