  • what that small organ called?

  • He composes very organically.

  • by the way, your fantastic!

  • 01:52 what is that violin? what have you done with it? thanks

  • he's my idol.. all others work in big scoring studios with whole orchesta, but he f*cks him self in that room

  • "Organic." He likes that word.

    Still a genius, though.

  • wow i need the songs :O awesome.

  • first song please...

  • Impressive. I admire Ken's passion for film composing. He said a lot in just 2:32...

  • What song is playing from 0:00 to where he talks about 1:30?

  • Interesting.

  • Another hack.

  • @shnimmuc

    charming

  • @shnimmuc

What you say is very interesting. I'm not disagreeing with you when I ask. I only ask because this is the 2nd video I've seen so far where you've commented the exact same thing. Why is he (and the majority of hollywood composers) a hack? Could you please elaborate?

  • @Jack0Milde I say this because there in almost nothing new or original in 99% of the film being composed in Hollywood. I have heard some interesting things from Europe. I find the endless masking of familiar progression and dutiful generic orchestration boring and predictable and hack work. I will say, that the Hollywood music scene does not lend itself to original thought. Thus staying with in the rules of the game you are a hack. Zimmer does not even do his own orchestration.

  • @shnimmuc

I was beginning to suspect about that Hollywood, but wasn't sure. What you said makes it a lot more clear. I don't know too much about European film music, but I'll be sure to look into it now that you said that. That last fact is quite sad. Understandable, because of deadlines, but sad nevertheless. Thank you for explaining what you meant. It's an eye-opener.

  • @shnimmuc could you give some examples of original artists? I am interested in exploring the contrasts between the two groups

  • Great video and beautiful music.

  • The software is Logic pro!

  • CamelSpace VST:) nice, I use it also, good plug-in. Oh and Izotope Ozone, it's great too:)

  • Great video! Thanks for doing this.

  • Thank you sir :D that's exactly what i thought about spacy music :)

  • ok you are a pianist ..so is easy to compose

  • @plasticpunch not necessarily... it is easy because you have a very good view on the chords & progressions; but, f.e. I've played the clarinet for years and I can say that playing a melody instrument (f.e. flute, saxophone, clarinet, trombone etc.) helps you to understand how melody works. So, it does have advantages, but it's not everything to play the piano.

  • The software is Logic by Apple.

  • H: Please share - what is the software you're running to compose. It looks very sophisticated and delightful. C

  • @SoulCoach I see LOGIC as the host, then there's IzoTope which he's using to master as well as camelspace and some other plugins for instruments.

  • I wonder how he creates instruments. If anyone knows hit me up.

  • @Tm0g762 he buys em?

  • @Tm0g762 Orchestral samples that big composers use are EASTWEST Symphonic ORCHESTRA and also Halion Orchestra is good. Samplers like Reaktor and Kontakt can morph those sounds. I also mentioned Camelspace, but u can take something like the FREE SYNTH1 and make just about any synth (non orchestra) sound.

  • @Wrathorn Today composer use LA Scoring strings, Cinematic Strings, Cinebrass and software like that. East West doesn't use a modern sample technique and you are extremely limited with the expressions. With this new software you can use the mod wheel to play velocity in real time and also address tons of other CC information to your other knobs and wheels.

I use the same keyboard myself, it's really really great!

Thank you for this wonderful composition! alexanderorest. net

  • @misterkeyboard wow this was so long ago when I made that comment and in fact ur absolutely right! EW samples are VERY limited in expression and dont sound realistic enough in strings. Good string samplers will cost 90% of your whole rig that i found! LA scoring strings sound amazing. Samplers have evolved quicker with PC's able to use more ram these days. Thanks for the reply man and keep it up!

  • @Wrathorn

Dude i just bought EWQLSO Plantinum Strings o_O but after reading your comment i feel like crying :(

  • @ArGyProductions Don't be silly :), what you've got is fantastic!

  • @misterkeyboard This is not true. Ewqlso actually has a lot of freedom when it comes to different individual instruments and modulation, more than say Symphobia or Albion. Then again the sound of the strings were not that well recorded/mixed at the time. That's why they build Hollywood Strings

  • Really interesting.
