I just read in a CNN article that according to a McCain spokesperson, both McCain and Palin spoke to this woman and her family after hearing of this story, which pretty much guarantees that if this hoax had not been revealed, Palin and McCain would have been using this as a talking point in their rallies.

Then you should probably vote for a third party candidate. Neither of the two candidates put an effort into the mortgage market regulation. It was a bipartisan policy to raise the number of mortgages and so to "grow" the economy with real estate growth. They knew the risk. F&F would have to oppose the governmental policies to do anything. The management is a scapegoat.

Excuse me? McCain's campaign manager called the major news outlets to break the story. It took place in Pennsylvania, the swing state McCain needs most (21 electorate votes). The police knew it was fraudulent the whole time, so it wasn't even a well planned hoax. It's been widely acknowledged as a Republican ploy, as they commonly use fear tactics such as this.
