God damn it! I just found SRV today, though I've been playing guitar for 4 years.. Well now I know what a real guitar player should sound like; accurate playing and hell lotta feeling!
@polymath7 - ya, i never thought of that, good call - I guess that was the 80's studio sound - perhaps some sweet background harp' fills would have "dirty'd it down" a little...they'll probably come out with a "remixed tracks album" one day - that might be interesting: SRV guitar/vocals - new musicians added...just a thought - cheers'
in my opinion,, SRV was the greatest guitar player of all time,, his sound was awsome... i love clapton hendrix slash,, but this guys bluesy sound is so sweet,, just MY OPINION
I miss singers like this because this was music not just something you play loud and lots of bass and abcanc1415 all the talent is no more with bands like this and am glad at 14 you like music like this.
@abcabc1415 Pick up a guitar and play, boy. You never know. YOU could turn out to be the talent. A talent like SRV's isn't normally recognized by someone 14 years old. You might have some of it... with a little practice of course :)
Today, too many people confuse instrumental skill for Musical Talent. Its not. SRV had that talent and genius. What was that said about him? When we play a note its just a note, but when Stevie played it, it had years of pain put into it (Something to that effect, correct me if you will). SRV FTW!
R.I.P. Mr. Vaughan. Songwriter, phenominal guitarist, and soul man. Among the nranks of the Icons: Hendrix, Clapton, Townshend, and Satriani. What a shame to lose such a brilliant artist. Enticing, and full of vibe, great track, great artist.
I may be wrong, but I don't think that you will ever see mourners like Stevie Wonder, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Nile Rodgers at anyone elses funeral. He was the greatest I've ever seen.
It makes me wonder how a man like this died.. Such talent, such raw ability, such intelligence.. He makes that guitar scream.. But all the bastards in the world are living their lives daily..
SRV, as always, is scary good! But this video was a little out there...besides the mullets everywhere...did anyone else think there was some pretty freaky images in this?...I don't remember seeing this one when it first came out.
If anyone carried on the spirit of Hendrix, it was Vaughn. His licks are legendary, and his songs are eternal classics. Rest in Piece good sir. And thank you for the eternal awesomness you brought in your short life.
but his soul is back.... just in another body. u might even know him and not know it. u might be talking to him right now, who knows. i bet he's making music too.
whenever anybody talks about an influential person that dies i just remind them of this: every soul springs from the same infinite source (call it god, the universe, w/e). we all take up different aspects of it. we all are connected to this source every second we are alive. so nobody really leaves us for we ARE all; we are infinite.
@alwaysstun104 Kanye West may be bad, but there is worse filth that I'd rather see purged, like say.... Soulja Boy or Flo Rida, as a 20 year old I listen to epic stuff like this and hearing names like that tossed around as if they are good artists makes me want to puke
@alwaysstun104 THE LORD CALLS US WHEN HE WANTS US! I WISH HE WAS HERE TOO!I COULD THINK OF A LOT OF PPL WHO SHOULD BE GONE BUT THEN I WOULD BE PLAYING GOD AND THAT'S JUST WRONG! HE STILL LIVES ON THRU THIS MUSIC AND OUR HEARTS WHO LOVED HIM AMEN!
@alwaysstun104 oooooohh yeah!!!! please lord ...... give us back stevie! u see u can take lady gaga.. She/he ( i dont know his/her sex ) is so useless as kanye west =D
@09toerag eemm... kanye west... they are some sytupid pop-rap-hip hop-i dont know what else=P band and they suck as lady gaga sucks =D GIVE US BACK STEVIEEEE LORD!!
Most often it was a Fender Super Reverb & Fender Vibroverb driven with two Tube Screamers. He also used a Marshall Club & Country in the real early days, and got into the Marshall Major 200 watt head around the time of Soul to Soul. Also, there was the Dumble Steel String Singer (which he called "The King Tone Colossus), and a Soldano SLO-100 around the time of In Step.
@TopsyKretz420 that doesn't make sense.. there was nothing there about playing. I'm pretty sure it was about his singing.. i wish people would read then respond.
dude i wen i heard this song i sat down on my bed for about a hour trying to figure it out on my bass guitar. This song is one of the best and challenging to learn on a instrument
When I was about as wild and wasted as a man can get and still draw breath, I heard Ray Vaughn say it: "I'm stranded, caught in the crossfire..."
Then and there I got a glimpse of what the real situation is and where the True Hope comes from. IMO Ray Vaughn jammed more plain gospel truth into these licks than any 100 so-called preachers you might care to name. Dude knew what he was talkin about because he did it all--twice--and came up clean. Praise the LORD and pass the ammunition!
in my opinion. its one of the hardest to play. and not because of the riff. that part is easy. but its hard in the fact that you have to stretch your fingers to the point of high discomfort to get the connection with each note. i almost want to start doing it on a Fender Mustang. the concept is alot of the same for EVH. thats why he uses those short scale MusicMan guitars, so he can hit those licks. but boy does Tommy Shannon and Stevie do a great job with Fenders!
