  • I really hope the pilots aren't having to listen to this bathering woman. Geeees. Shut the hell up, we don't all want to listen to your drama about your bag and your gloves.

  • NASA's "Flight Control" footage is available and coincides with this footage.

"Comm." reports to Flight Control that "we've lost all four hydralic/temp. on the left side of the vehicle". Comm. reports then "we also lost the nose" of the vehicle. In this footage, there are repeated camera views of white and orange flashes outside the window. On lift-off, debris was recorded coming off the heat shields, and the flashes seen are likely more of the heat shields coming apart upon re-entry...

  • @PanchoVanilla1 They said they lost the nose talkback which is instrumentation also. The flashing is normal like any other re-entry a hundred times prior. The compressing of air molecules. On lift off foam came off the tank and hit the orbiter. No tiles came off during liftoff.

  • Was this the flight with mrs mcauliffe? Rip to the lives lost

  • @aaronrodgers77 No, that disaster happened back in 1986. This happened in 2003, I believe. Anyhow... Both were awful incidents.

  • why didn't they jump out with parachutes

  • @omarmonnoo lol, reentery would have burnt then to nothing, that's why.

  • @omarmonnoo good point!

  • @omarmonnoo Possibly the stupidest question I have ever heard in my entire life.

  • I pray their deaths were quick and painless. I think that's all that can be said now.

  • @NebetSeta They weren't.

  • you will have an eerry feeling when you are inside a space shuttle re-entering the earth with fire flashing right beside you with no where else to go......R.I.P space shuttle crew.....may god bless your souls

  • @Bedgie01 hey Bedgie, you really think you're funny, with all the disrespectful joke bullshit!? You really are the epitome of a fucking douche bag!!! Have some damn respect...fucktard!

  • so awful 38 miles imagine a plane is like 1 and half i think and youd be shaking really bad thats terrible i could never go to space

  • its just terrible that it happened...

  • Wish they didn't cut to the cheap off the shelf explosion shots. Just show the actual footage and comment with knowledge instead of incitement. Subtlety is not a substitute for clarity.

  • i believe the last minute video exist. Only NASA decided not to release it. i would do the same if i'm in charge.

  • There was no tape to recover. No reason for lost tape end. It was transmission direct to control . NASA.

  • @michaelpilot1000 This entry footage is from a DV tape recorded on a Sony recorder. It was found in the recovery efforts. Crew module footage is never transmitted live on launch or landing.

  • @amgen52 your telling me that they recovered a dv tape from a completely destroyed space shuttle. i don't believe it. also at 7:30 mission control says that one of them has a helmet cam. where is that footage?

  • @Renegade2283 8000 pieces were recovered from just the crew module. Film rolls, food, the copier they use on orbit, a ream of copy paper you could use again, tools, all 7 helmets came back. The helmet cam is not for their launch/entry helmets but for EVA suit helmets. No EVA was performed on this mission. Many tapes, laptops etc. all recovered. Including the video that you see here.

  • @amgen52 You say that the camera he had on his helmet was for his eva helmet. then why at 7:10 does the guy refuse the camera the woman offers, and then mission control says " He's got a camera in his helmet". That would imply that he didn't need the camera for his view because his helmet cam was covering his view. So he definitely had a camera on the helmet he was wearing. Oh and i mean no disrespect i just am confused and to how they have that video. How do dv tapes become partially damaged?

  • @Renegade2283 There is no camera on a helmet. This view is from a Sony camera velcroed to the wall. The pilot pulls it off the wall and hands it back to her. There is a power/video cable that the camera is mated to. This is all recorded to a Sony recorder attached to seat 3 or Mrs. Clark's seat. Let me listen to the sound and I'll get back to you.

  • @Renegade2283 OK, He says he has a camera in his HUD already. The same kind of camera is mounted by the pilot in front of the HUD (heads up display). The CDR says he already has one mounted. Ive worked with this equip. for years and in the crew module for years and with the crews for years. There is no helmet camera. The tape survived the re-entry like many other things. The tape partially came off the reels and was exposed.

  • @amgen52 Ok so the camera mounted in front of his HUD did not survive the crash. However the camera that the woman was holding survived. Were would the camera she was holding been stored/mounted when they began their re-entry? Of all the camera's on board only one partial recording survived. Why are no videos transmitted to NASA , wouldn't it be be smarter to transmit the video so if something like this happened they could still observe what happened so they could find out what went wrong easier

  • @Renegade2283 Parts of the cameras were found. They could have survived and not found them. 3 of these type little 1 pound cameras flew. The camera has velcro wrapped around it. She just sticks it to a panel or can actually hold it on/off all the way down. Some crews do this. The only 2 used on re-entry are these type. Other / diff. types of crew module cameras are stowed for re-entry. Its recorded on tape because of privacy issues. Follow up....

  • @amgen52 First off i believe that the safety of the crew is more important than their privacy. As far as electricity being lost, they don't have batteries?? All I am saying is that it seems inefficient to not transmit. I know it is possible to do so because the public has access to technology that could achieve this, so NASA must also. Say that they didnt know what went wrong, You would want transmitted records of what happened. Just saying its something they should consider for the future.

  • @Renegade2283 All that would be great in a perfect world with a blank check and no humans involved. Launching space craft will always be difficult and dangerous. If humans waited until the system was perfect in any adventure, that adventure would never take place. There will be more space related accidents in the next 30 yrs. Especially all these new private companies trying to get there on the cheap.

  • @Renegade2283 Intercomm ( between crew members) is recorded on this tape. This is not transmitted to ground. Some get sick, some say cuss words etc. The HUD camera is done live when in range of the runway. So much info is being transmitted thru the S-Band antenna. Live video is not really necessary. In both accidents, when the crew modules separated, the crew looses electricity and the video goes dead anyhow.

  • @amgen52 Also Im not trying to say that NASA blew it up or anything. I love NASA and would one day like to work for them. They have achieved, in my opinion, the greatest feat mankind has ever attempted. I also have deep respect for the lives lost during this tragic accident. Its very sad to see the lack of support that NASA receives. I think our government should take half the money we spend on our military and give it to NASA. I am simply cant believe that only that video survived.

  • @Renegade2283 That was not the only data items that survived. Much video, film and data cards survived. It was all prior to landing though on this 16 day mission. Depending on where it was stowed determined if it survived or not. None of it had anything to do with the accident and not released by Nasa. And yes, the whole shuttle program operated on 3 billion a year out of the 18 that it gets. Imagine if it just doubled.....

  • Cool. Nice video.
