@Moosh50 wouldn't really matter though would it? jasper is far more experienced than ed but ed still fights him to a draw and ed learned from talking to elzeazar that the volturi hadn't had a true fight in centuries it was just unopposed slaughters. so those years they were at war with the romanian coven felix could have gained experience but after that he wouldn't be much needed. due their emphasis on supernatural gifts.

Wardo could beat Jasper, propably using his mindreading to know his moves or such, but he still lost to Felix. this goes to show that no matter what nifty tricks the Cullens have, they are still rookies, upstart vampires that the Volturi can put back in line without breaking a sweat. this scene IMO was more symbolic then anything.

@allshallbelosttoyou Edward just got pained in the face—they showed that they have Jane and that they are not afraid to use her. They could’ve just had her zap him again—but they didn’t. They had Felix, who has no extra abilities, just repeatedly beat his ass for the hell of it. And it was not a “so close!” fight, either. Felix dominated him, Edward never had the upper-hand, and the one time he had only the slightest advantage, i.e., when he suprised him, it was quickly taken care of.

That fight was one that needed to be short, because it establishes that they are powerful and also establishes that they are not afraid of little upstarts who think they have the advantage. It’s effective! It’s characterization! It’s semi-decent writing!

and edward couldn't beat jasper, it was stated in the books that the fight would've gone on indefinately. even bella openly questioned when was the last time any of the volturi actually need to fiht since they had got alec and jane. a vamps skills never get rusty but still. and probably had some of the most extensive experience of all the characters alive by the series end sinc ehe not only fought against other covens. but killed waning newborns allied with his army. probably fought every day.

Ill quote what I read or you can check it out.Meyer stated that Felix's talent is his fighting abilities and physical strength (comparable to Emmett Cullen, if not stronger). No matter how good anyone else is in physical combat, Felix will always remain one, or most likely, several steps ahead of them.
