This has great style and panache.A great work in the hands of a truly great singer. The sense of drama is huge even if the piano playing becomes rather driven. Bernstein is no foll, he knows what can work and is well able to take intelligent risks.
Great singing -- Bernstein a bit too histrionic in the middle section -- even if it is portraying the best musical "storm" outside of Beethoven's 6th symphony. But Christa is up to not letting him drag her with him. The ending when it explodes into the last prolation change is very fine -- many pianists don't know what to do with that.
