@headphones222 Are you in this industry? I spent a couple years in college on film & Media and learnt that although you can vary your styles, their are some basics that you just need to adhere to.

I don't know Charlies experience in this industry but if i'm correct he has become a little full of himself from the videos and has suddenly come up with a "Great idea" ...Hes quite capable of making a documentary but at the same time will almost certainly miss out on some of the techniques used.

@headphones222 If you actually had some education on this subject you would understand why technique is important. If you don't want to follow techniques that have been tested and proven then you will most likely not do to well.

As a little example, type into youtube '180 degree rule'... It is a very basic technique but is now practically used in every form of production. I can assure you, stepping over this would not sell you film very well. ...Unless you were looking for something abstract.

@headphones222 In fairness too your points education on a subject makes little effect, I studied production for professional media, over several years and still do not feel to be any better then a normal person at it, you learn by doing not studying and moneymayhem needs to understand this, also considering that college is mostly btec which have no value, where as working in the industry does give experience but no a lot, and in view college offers almost nothing except keep the camera steady !

BTEC is counted for something towards higher education etc... But something like this could be either exam or CW, they are mostly used to get into higher education in that subject. Yeahhhh, I would think experience matters the most in this usually applied field (filming etc...). But in other stuff like maths there is no doubt knowledge does give a large effect. But yeah, I have seen many documentaries where I have seen the camera peoplesss. But yeahhh, its all good aha

I'm just pointing out that their are some basic rules that are important to understand when filming. If you were to break these rules, you should know which ones they are, why and for what purpose.

And maybe your not interested or do not care but their are things that a director has to do in post-production... these mainly cover the visual aspect which is very important to keeping an audience interested through out. These are 'techniques', and usually the more you use them, the more an audience will stay locked.
