Unequalibrium, this song, like the majority of BM material, was ahead of its time. Which isn't a bad thing. People r 2 fuckin stupid to realize band's evolve. Did people honestly think all BM songs were going to mimic No Rain?! Some people need 2 broaden their horizons- they'll find music in general a lot more enjoyable. Shannon Hoon was an amazing lyricist. He had a way of metaphorically summing up each & every song. He wanted people 2 relate to BM music, namely the lyrics, in their own way.
This song pulls me in so deeply. True bliss when i listen to this song. say that about all of there songs. you know the albums with shannon. :]] Melond Head <3
@larbo1616, It takes a big heart to "hear" Shannon's voice. Those who are touched by his songs tend to live a painful yet beautiful life. Shannon's fans have eyes that see and feel Heaven and hell. They see life as incredibly precious and yet they see it callously and continuously raped. These people are overwhelmed with love and pain. Their eyes and hearts are so wide open for they have not deaden them with anger and judgment. Instead, they have faith in people, love and life. They are saints.
@1971SuperLead i'm guessing that you didn't like blind melon that much at first, maybe a song or two, then after you listened to those quite a few times you grew to like everything else blind melon (and especially shannon hoon let's be honest) touched. i'm guessing this dude gave you the strength to try to be a good person every day. totally get you man
@paradiselost254 I bought the Bee Girl CD on a whim. I had no idea what was on it. I just liked the cover art. Tones Of Home was the 1st cut I heard. I immediately liked Shannon's attitude. I was dismayed to learn he used drugs. Drugs can give spiritual experiences, but they never last long, and then the drugs give a more powerful reverse experience. Drugs are a trap. The proper way to spiritual enlightment is thru prayer and meditaion. Read A Course In Miracles for that.
i agree with you on shannon's attitude, it gave me a better impression of him than his own voice when i first listened to him (tones of home was my first track as well). to each his own when it comes to drugs. my own experiences with drugs showed me a lot of things... those powerful reverse experiences you're talking about seems to me to come from ppl, not the drugs. of course i'm not talking about the coke, meth, heroin, etc that shannon indulged in, im sure those wont end as happy as the high
@paradiselost254 Sure, I learned a lot from drugs too, but there is a far more powerful, long lasting, beautiful, legal, cheaper and healthier way to experience the spiritual side of life, and without the withdrawals or shame that is often associated with drugs.
@paradiselost254 It was movies like High Noon and TV shows like Bonanza that taught me that a man's worth is based on his character and not his material wealth. Of course, being Gary Cooper or a Cartwright is a lonely road. Most people will sell their soul at bargain prices. Our packed prisons are proof that people believe they can steal happiness.
Shannon didn't send me down the righteous path. He just keeps me company on this lonely road. I enjoy the company immensely.
When I need to cry I blast this as loud as I can and sing my brains out with it.

Even if this song was written in 2011, it would still be considered ahead of its time.
