God is so wonderful!!! I saw a beautiful skit at a Womens' Conference today this anointed song. I wrote down her name so I could find her cd. At home I surfed You Tube for worship songs for my church, after enjoying so many beautiful songs for 3 hours, I decided to check out just one last one. I could not believe how out of the corner of my eye I saw Ms. Bynum's name. Of course my curiosity grabbed a hold of me and I found "One night with the King!" What a surprise I will give my Pastor.

I would like to respond to your comment about this song. I posted this video because of Anita's exceptional performance (including the orchestra, et. al.) and it is a wonderful song. However, we must also keep in mind that although there is a lot of good music out there, each person is entitled to their own emotional response to any work of art, be it a song, painting, sculpture, architecture, etc. And because someone else does not appreciate what you do, doesn't mean they don't have a soul.

That's the wonderful thing about music and all art. That is, each person is entitled to their own reaction and choices as to what they like and dislike. I am happy that Juanita's performance is your favorite. Without a doubt, it is a very good, live performance of this song. I only think that her second ending is a bit redundant. To me, it doesn't really add much that hasn't already been sung. Studio recordings are often more appropriate for my piano program, with just a few exceptions.

As for those who feel that this version should have been in the movie, I would say that it really is not appropriate for that. Jennie Tenney's film/studio version is more appropriate as it captures the essence and style of the movie, while her original studio version and Juanita's live performance are more suitable for a gospel, church, or live concert scenario. Having arranged many songs for various churches, perhaps I might know a little what works the best for this type of application.

The reason is beneath you because you are over-looking a few things. I realize that many enjoy Juanita's live, Gospel performance of this song (so do I). However, she does take many liberties with the song including melody and lyrics. While her rendition is appropriate for this Gospel concert with Jonathan Butler, the song was written by Jennie Tenney and then used in the movie with a different orchestration that befits the 'flavor' of the movie. You really have to listen to all three versions.

Again, from a musical direction point of view, Juanita's version is quite good and reflects her style as a minister, as well as 'her testimony' as she indicates during the chorus. However, Jennie's original version is also from her ministry and takes on a more subtle approach to her message with this song with some direct references to the movie, where it was later used and reorchestrated with a Middle-Eastern feel. Her original is more straight-forward.

Other than that, I also enjoy her performance and she does deliver a moving vocal for this song. I also get a feeling that this concert hall was not filled to capacity for some reason.
