  • it turns out that fps overall is a game making program editing sounds lighting affects and even AI interactiveness is some code and does take a decent amount of skill plus getting everything just right can be a challange i should know i use fps creator a decent amount im ok at it and tons of good games are made of that program

  • OpenGL - is cross platform so could dev. for other OS's and its more easier to learn then DirectX

    DirectX - is more effective at rendering etc

    but is limited as you can only program for window based OS's only also DirectX is harder to learn than OpenGL

  • Hey thank you a lot for the answer, I knew that OpenGL is cross platform and DirectX is not but I thought that DirectX is easier to learn.

    But the question now is HOW MUCH more effective is DirectX at rendering than OpenGL :/

    and is DirectX a smart choice for making programs with GUI, or is it just good for games? and so on...

    I feel like I'm never gonna decide :(

  • bf2, find time to learn, or don't argue about things you don't know (or things your friends don't know). In the end C++ is the best language to use, and Java is easier because you can learn programming fundamentals. You'd shit bricks trying to understand matrix transformations and hardware control in DirectX, like this guy has done in his video.

  • Looks nice. Did you use Q3 engine or did you made it completely yourself? What language you used? If it's C can I see the source code?

  • C++ says tags. And the engine is propably own work, bcuz of DX, well dunno about that.

  • Really good as far as I know. I would love to go into this but still need to figure out C#. I am interested in programming and have been working on C# (trying to figure it out with a book and on my own). I have to figure out C# before I try C++.

    Good level design. I like the different elevations and wall placements.

    Just learn C++. However, I'd suggest learning java first from Sun's tutorials, it'll help you a ton when you move to c++.

    its like, fps creator would have better graphics, but the game itself is already made if you use FPSC, and this video shows that you are really putting an effort on making games

    and no, its not a matter of skill

    its just that some of us just want to use FPSC to have fun or just to try making our 5-min made crappy and boring games without learning code

    (i want to learn code, because no matter which engine your using, you can create better than FPSC)

  • this is my opinion on fps creator.... its for noobs... seriously.... even gamemaker took a TON more skill than fps creator. FPS creator doesnt have as good graphics as a game made in C++ ( and other code languages as well) just a quick example, world of warcraft was made in C++, lua, etc and it looks MUCH better than anything made in fps creator

  • seriously, did you just compared FPS creator with world of warcraft??? its not a matter of looks, since you can import models to use in fpsc (i think that models with good detail crash FPSC, but meh), its the gameplay

    here is a map, here are some weapons, here are the enemies, but your game isnt special... just a generic shooter that feels like any other fpsc game

    and graphics depend on the graphic engine... using the code from FPSC you could create a good loking game with another engine

  • im not comparing FPSC to world of warcraft, im comparing FPSC to C++, FPSC is good for people who are lazy and want to make a videogame and dont have the skill, i understand that. but real game making comes from c++.

  • anybody can write C++ if they attempt, coding seems complicated but if you know simple algebra your good. the hardest part about programming is the mathematical part of it, syntax is easy.

  • dude, i am very good in algebra, but the syntax (i also had 17's and 19's in english, language is not a barrier - a 19 is between an A and an A+)simply keeps me away from programming languages, it would require a long time for me to learn... and i am a fast learner

    and comparing FPSC to C++ is like comparing FPSC to world of warcraft, people

    all im saying if you want to make a REAL game, keep away from the FPSC engine

  • anybody thatg needs good c++ tutorials can ceheck out antiRTFHM's videos. he has a spoonfeed for c++ and will help you a LOT.

  • Lol'd hardly. Using FPS Creator is NOT game making, because it's one frikkin level editor with ready models, engine etc... Ofc you can make your own scripts, models and that way, but it's a whole different thing.

    This was made with C++ + DirectX so this guy gets all my respect and I'm going to laught my ass off to you whole my upcoming life, the end.

  • @Zdem0Z Technically speaking using FPS Creator IS game making. Because it produces a game that you can play.

    It may not be the most respected form of game making, but it is game making.

  • @yoman258 its more like game editing, like replacing mario with luigi in mario bros and selling the same thing only with LUIGI and calling it a new "game"

  • How did you make it, OpenGL, DirectX, a pre-made engine, what? How did you learn this, what did you use to make the models and the collision detection. Looks amazing though.

  • well done.. I started with openGL, and now I'm trying to switch to DX (mainly cause of the hardware interaction).. So far I can tell the GL was much easier.. probably cause of the good utility toolkit.. I could just punch in "glutCreateWindow.., WindowSize.., DisplayFunc.., and whatever else is needed (keyboard, mouse) and just start the loop.. but DX is killing me.. It's like every DX initialization is different, depending on what you want to do..
