  • im jealous of your family btw hahah they seem awesome

  • 8:27 dont lean back Nancy :\ lean into the gun so u get more stability :)

  • is that a vickers .50 cal on the wall at 3:20?

  • my grandfather used this in ww2

  • Grandfather was a Corporal in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I. He was a Lewis gun instructor in England for the better part of the war. After the appalling losses at Passchendale Ridge he accepted a reduction in rank and volunteered for France. He was wounded Sept 30 1918 at the Canal du Nord and left for dead by the Germans. He moved as the Canadians were stacking bodies and survived. I don't believe he cared for guns again although he must have had a rifle on the farm.

  • British soldiers used this weapon for trench clearance and aircraft mounting during ww1. the vickers mg was used in static defence

  • You're a Quentin Tarantino fan aren't you?

  • why is the barrel so big

  • @monsimand It's not; in two of the Hollywood movie clips (The Mummy) you can see the actual barrel. It looks so big in the others is because it has a shroud around the barrel, which uses the muzzle blast to draw air through the shroud and cool the barrel (which is debated). At the time, most guns had big water jackets around the barrel to cool them (see the Maxim gun, 1:18). It was very heavy, so a shroud was better. Aircraft Lewis' left it off since the airflow in a plane was enough.

  • Cool film, Ugh... made back when spray painting antiques and priceless hardwood bleach white was all the rage...

What the hell where they thinking...

  • well i never shoot any weapons wielded by saddam, hitler, pol pot, and kim jong ill

  • @Rcampo42 Then I'd say you were loosing out for foolish reasons. Then again, if you really only left out weapons "wielded by" Hitler, Saddam, etc, then there would still be a lot left, since none of them actually wielded many weapons at all. They had their soldiers do it for them. If you won't touch any of those weapons that were used by their armed forces, then you'd be missing a lot. Namely the AK 47, the Mauser rifle, captured M-16's, and scores of others. Knock yourself out.

  • @justforever96 my point. i'll only use weapons wielded by the german empire, and the soviet union

  • my name is lewis lol

  • Great video, glad you made it look really professional, great job!

  • Nice video. All the dip chewing was a bit annoying tho.

  • @comissairevanloc and you people wonder why everybody cals you a bunch of cheese eating surrendering monkeys

guns are cool ....the tell us so much about history culture etc in fact anny weapon does.most of the tchnological progre is driven by weapons design

guns do not kill people....i do

  • holy shit, how fkn cool is that? sure kid come down and go nuts with my full auto turn of the century badass lewis-gun.lucky fukker

  • Typical American idiots. "Ah guns are GREAT!" Until you have some guy shooting with a gun after you

  • @SMGJohn In which case they can shoot them. That's the beauty of being American... the ability to fire back.

  • @daw2501 Well I rather have the police on my side shooting back at the guy shooting at me so that I don't get in prison for killing him because of self defense.

  • the lewis machine gun is the world's first light machine gun

  • wow, I really thought it would be quieter with a smaller kick o.O

  • I feel the same about the Bren. Thats funny that no one knew what a Lewis gun is.

  • @manifestman132 yep brens are my faw too

but lot easier to get hold off...still being made

  • great video, Lewis gun is 1 of my favorites, High Road to China = great flick.

Place here in AZ you can shoot a mini gun.

  • My grandfather owes his life to being away on a course learning to use the gun whilst many of his comrades were involved in a major offensive.

  • My Great Uncle won the Military Medal in Belgium in WW1 in 1916 firing a Lewis Gun from the hip taking out a bunch of enemy soldiers .

  • omg i love guns a ton were u find a shooting range that kets u shoot machine guns!

  • @tigertank557 there was a machine gun shoot they had all the time up in princeton, mn but a few years back they shut it down cuz some guy blew his finger off. lame.

  • @randomcreatureface that's retarded. you'd think they'd just tell the dude who blew his finger off not to come back rather than fucking it up for everyone else.

  • cool its a shame they band most guns here in ireland

  • try a museum, actually there is one at the Belleville armoury museum in Bellevillle Ontario Canada I think it still works.

  • I love the car that is in the back round XD (06:01) it is a Dodge Charger 1969??? XD

  • I love this gun. My favourite MMG EVER

  • THXS :)

    VERY WELL DONE

  • My grandfather shot down a 111 in 1943 with a twin mounted set of lewis guns. The gun has one major design fault in that the barrel can not be swapped out quickly. When the barrel over heats the gun becomes very inaccurate or just jams up. My grandfather clamed this was the only reason he hit the plan and he always said it was very unlikely that he did bring it down. Although he said he did hit it as it was only at about 200 feet.

  • A bloody 30-06 machine gun, wish I was in Texas; at least anywhere but CA

  • Very cool looking Machine gun the Lewis gun.

  • "Now what I'd like to do now is cease filming, and go inside to show you a few things" AKA Old man's gonna get highhhhhhhh

  • you couldnt handle the smooth recoil of the lewis gun at all you pussy fart.

    8-)

  • pussy fart...hahahaha

  • @krookedshocker i bet he was nervous as fuck!.. leave him alone

  • i like mike's dad's version the best i need one like that

  • i saw its cool and i hate the one joe had i love the mk 3 version the mouned one without the head pieace

  • that gun is awesome. i saw it in legionaire with jcvd.

  • Dude, that is SUCH a good clip. Well done. I have a Lewis Gun in my collection. Have a look, and if you like I will film some close-ups for you.

  • cool is it th mk 3 the lighter version that joe's dad has stop at 6:15

  • i mean mike's dad

  • hey you know that gun mike's dad has the aircraft version can u make your lewis gun look like that but with a but stock

  • wow, are you like an idiot or something? Or are you just plain blind? THERE IS A PAN MAG ON TOP IN CLEAR VIEW.

  • no a pan dude learn it

  • "This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG. The audio has been disabled. More about copyright"

DUDE, fix it. I want to see this vid.

  • LOL, nm

  • Disgusting!

  • the lewis gun or a russian variant is featured in Call of Duty World at War

  • no thats a dp-28, while it looks similar, it is a completely different gun

  • @fingersticks74 No its not just because you play call of duty doesnt mean you know shit about firearms. This is the British .303 Lewis gun made by Isac Newton Lewis in 1911 and famed for its envolvment in the trenches of WW1.This is the Lewis gun not the Degtyaryova Pekhotny or DP.

  • @samj5664 That was a reply to a comment, that was claiming this was a dp-28. Don't tell me that I don't know my shit, when you don't check yours.

  • @fingersticks74 What the fuck you talking about that I dont know my shit, I know my shit pluss the history behind them. This is the Lewis gun not a DP or as I said earlier Degtyaryova Pekhotny which im guessing you didnt know. So whats so wrong about a true statement?... and if my statement is true which it is then why claim I dont know my shit?

Enjoy your game of Call of Duty!

  • omg ur that dum the dp-28 has no pistol grip the lewis gun does ok look it up

  • @lewisgunner1 It as a reply to a comment from a year ago; someone thought this was a DP.

  • ok watever

  • i know i hate that one it is not my favorite gun the orgianl lewis gun mk3 is

  • at 6:15 is that a ChauChat on the wall?

  • Hi greetings from Birmingham UK home of British Small Arms (BSA)- they made good motorbikes too. Great video and a great gun. It has an awesome distinctive sound.

  • my great great granddad was part of the making of bar (browning automatic rifle) and the lewis gun he built the barrel and the stock for them

  • This is a really good video on a gun. I am not particualrly pro-gun, but this really shows how you can be safe with guns and still have loads of fun. Its just the hillbillies that try to take apart shotgun shells with hammers and pliers and lose half their thumb.

  • Wow, this is a well made video; i feel like I'm watching a professional documentary. You should seriously look into a film making career in the future bro.

  • Pfft you asked the wrong people, I knew what a Lewis gun was... primary weapons of many Allied WW1 aircraft. You can do away with that barrel shroud, btw, its useless beyond making it look like a hand cannon. What if I told you I found two Vickers guns sitting out rusting in the rain...

  • That makes me sad...

  • well the shroud was for cooling theres fins in there to draw heat away from the barrel also the air flows though the tube drawn by the gasses leaving the barrel. yea they gotrid of them for aircraft as the air flow does the job and also added a 97 rnd magazine.

  • @agentolshki 47rd drum for ground use, 97rd for air use as the 97rd drum was sensitive to rough handling...accourding to the sources I've read.

  • I'm more of an MG-42 kind of girl myself

  • joe sounds cool

  • Interesting video.

Wish I could shoot a Lewis gun.

Just curiously, is that the buttstock of a Chauchat on the wall behind your dad at @ 6:15 (lower right of the frame)?

Now that would be a gun even rarer than the Lewis.

  • Yes it is! The barrels welded up, but yes it is.

  • wtf , how do people get there hands on al these fucking guns , in Canada its impossible to even think of finding anysoty of guns almost

  • is this blaine minnesota thats crazy

  • there is a lewis gun in paschendale too

  • What a great short film! You definately have a future in film making! Other than some of the footage being underexposed/dark it was pretty much flawless otherwise & shows your great talent & promising future! How refreshing to see an entire family with a realistic perspective on firearms who don't crap their pants, go into a hysterical fit & make a complete ass of themselves at the mere mention or sight of a firearm! KUDOS, WELL DONE & special thanks to Joe Torgerson for being so gracious!

  • I watched all 23:52 and must say that there are few junior producers who shoot videos this well... I loved the ending btw, great tie up

  • Thank you! Looking back on it, I wish I would have done a little more refining to the cut (and camera work) but you live and learn ya know. Thanks for the good words.

    *mike

  • Love this movie very much. So Hollywood!!

  • Mike, your a real star for making this video and posting it,the Lewis is one of my favourite guns too.I dont know if you have noticed but your film is the only film on YouTube that contains ANY good footage of it being loaded and fired, other vids just show photo's NOT the real thing.Unfortunately living in the UK the only Lewis you can see and own are de-acts,which I personally hate as it take a perfectly good gun and makes it useless.Good film, well made, almost pro!!Keep it up,yourfaithfully stew

  • 00:42 hahhahahaha lol

also how did u make the video 23 secs?

  • chew with your mouth closed...

  • the people whom you may have asked if they knew about the lewis gun may not know, but im sure other people do, and i thought it was an overstatement that you said that people dont even watch history channel, i dont even have the history channel on tv, but i always watch when i have the chance...

  • my favorite too

  • wait.joe`s girl friend kaite is doing the camra work?

  • Hey Man, great vid! And how lucky are you!? I'm a huge WW1 buff, but I live in Canada, so I've only shot rifles from both world wars... the automatics I can't buy here. :(

And did you get a video of you shooting the German MG 08/15? That would be sweet if you put it up!

  • I do have footage of me shooting the 08. Now where that footage is? That's a another question...Thanks for the good words! Make sure to make it over to the states to shoot the Lewis. I know there is a shoot out in Nevada that usually has one.

    *mike

  • Just one more movie reference for you:

In Star Wars Ep. IV, check the stormtroopers' weapons on Tatooine when the squad investigates Docking Bay 94. The heavy blaster trooper is carrying a Lewis with the barrel shroud, sans magazine.

I loved being able to recognize that weapon the first time I saw Star Wars. Good weapons, good movie.

  • I know! I got to hold a replica "Lewis Gun" Star Wars super blaster at a convention in Denver this last Spring. My dad actually made me aware of this reference when I was making the documentary back in '04. A very nice and cool attention to detail. Thanks.

    *mike

  • when you had the shellin your mouth what did he say? Somthing like " we dont want to shoot people if we did we'd be driving horses."

  • I think what he was saying was because carws kill more people than guns each year that if we didn't want to kill people we'd be driving horses instead. It was on his rant about destroying history for a safety net or something.

  • Oh I thought he ment to DRIVE them as in to push them of move them to anouther plase chasing them. That f***in safty net in canada they wount even let us have mashine guns!

  • I LOVE GUNS

  • So what were the few other things that the home owner was talking about?

  • did u ever get to shoot that mini gun?

  • Unfortunately no. I have had a few offers by people saying they would let me fire theirs or telling me where one was, but I haven't had the time or the chance to do it. Would love to though! And it would make a great follow up.

    *mike

  • so far this is the best amateur video i have seen on youtube.

and to the guy who made this vid ...dude u ROCK.

i share the same passion for guns as you do...but have never fired one.

keep up with the good work.

  • aaaahhhhh america is the best

  • Man that was fun to watch^^ Such a happy family shooting up the countryside :-) It's a beautiful gun. Over here in Germany you can't have this kind of hobby, so enjoy it!

Great vid, it's in my faves for sure!

  • Im an Australian and my grandfather was a Lewis Gunner/Signalsman in the Korean war and fought for the Australians, it was mainly used for a light AA gun, no longer a infantry gun, because it was extremely out-dated by this time, he used the standard .303 round and he also said that they had an extremely deadly problem with jamming and accuracy, but still a great vid mate. good work.

  • Thanks! The gun jammed on us while we were shooting it and we had to stop. Yet the gun is amazingly smooth. A lot less rickety than I would have imagined.

  • Wow that was wicked Mike, In New Zealand we gotta have a gun liscence to shoot anything other than an air rifle and its still real strict (i have a dedicated arsenal of air rifles and pistols lol!). Wicked film anyway

  • Thanks a lot for this film. My Grandfather was a WW1 Lewis gunner.

  • Well done Mike. I've always been a fan of the Lewis gun as well as the BAR. You have really cool family too. I am happy for you that you were able to get an opportunity to fire a real Lewis gun.

  • WHAT really.. people arent that informed.. wow i gotta go educate my friends so they never look like that.. i mean.. even my 13 year old brother knows the lewis gun O_O

  • HELLO WISCONSIN xD

  • Faut vraiment être con pour gacher autant de munitions. Ce n'est même pas pour le plaisir du sport mais juste pour montrer "nous sommes de gros cons qui font mumuse".

  • Coming from a family background of folks who took the time to get licenced to own ( and enjoy ) full auto weapons.....I must say this Mike...." The family who sprays (lead) together...stays together.

Nice short film....stay who you are!

  • B.A.R

  • Man I'm british and I have to say you did an exelent job! this is a f*cking good documentary about the lewis gun. I am also a gun nut and it's hard to find people that have the same interests in guns and history as well as all the machine work of it all. I hope your school/college gave you the highest marks possible for this informing video documentary.AWOL :-)

  • i agree i enjoy the wepons and the history behind them, i love the film, rule britannia!

  • I really envy you Americans. I have a Lewis gun but in the good old UK our Governments think that to stop gun crime they must get honest enthusiasts treasured weapons and weld up the barrels and chop bits off them. Its a scandal.

  • man, i wish my family would let me do that! btw, congrats!

  • Fascinating documentary about such an obscure weapon! Deployed in their thousands by British armed forces in both World Wars you could not be forgiven for forgetting it. Nice to see BSA getting a mention here. As a native of Birmingham this ancient company (long since gone bust)figures large in our regional history. But please, please note: Birmingham is pronounced BirmingUM, or EM - NEVER BirmingHAM!!!

  • Spoken as a true MinneSOTA'n. Always HAMing it up! (:

    My apologies.

    *mike

  • Wow that guy was nice to let these enthusiasts have a go at his gun. That is an incredibly valuable piece of machinery, and very well designed.

  • Nice, great video.

You're very lucky, I'll probably never get to fire one :(

  • Hey I never thought I would either, but I decided to make an excuse to do so and made a documentary about it. It just pushed me along to eventually find one and shoot it! If you want it enough, you'll make effort to see it through.

  • Excellent video, really professionally put together and with people who aren't too self-conscious. Fab.

  • My grandfather was a Lewis gunner in the British army in WWI. Plus I'm from Birmingham, where they were made. Interesting film - thanks for posting.

  • So was mine!

  • excellent job i gave u five stars actualy i'm in the middle on the gun control debate

i understand their aloor i USED to be a stone cold gun nut NRA TYPE with a closet full of assault rifles..now? i dont think guns should be banned outright..but living in an urban area for years it just wore me down their no rational arguement to allowing unrestricted gun possesion to have for example a gun lkie the lewis gun you need a class 3 license,in my mind the possesion of

    ANY military semi auto should

  • Great vid. Well Set up. 5/5

  • Great vid. Well Set up. 5/5

  • Brilliant... Just an outstanding video.

I've always had an interest in the lewis myself, if only because of my lifelong fascination with aviation and ariel combat.

  • I reenact WW1, and I've been shot at by a lewis gun, helped by three Chauchats. Tell you what, that was FRIGG'N AWSOME! I can't wait to do it again in November.

  • Ok, if I could go back in time I would take out the frikin gum. Your killin me here! Glad you all enjoyed. It's been 4 years since I made it and I just pulled the original tapes out again. Thinking about fixing up a few things. I've learned a thing or two since then.

    (:

    *mike

  • Thank God for us Belgians.

Supplying the entire world with Chocolate Waffles and Guns since 1830.

    LOL.

  • Not to mention amazing beer :)

  • Mike, great vid. Well make. Needs a little bit more polish near the end, oh...spit the gum out. Kudos!

  • go and shot a Gatling gun

  • Very cool video; well-made and enjoyable through the end.

  • the gum is distracting, but other than that its great

  • nice video man lol that guns sick

  • sick? lol

  • ... I'm speechless. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would find someone who reminds me so much of myself. I too have had a fascination with the Lewis gun since I was AT LEAST 13 (that being 8 years ago). Also, to further the coincidence, I too have a brother named Andrew who is a car guy (and until recently had a '72 Nova). Unfortunately I'm the only 'gun-guy' in the family. At any rate, I salute you sir. :)

  • Thats really cool. Thanks a lot!

    *mike

  • Well, I was just intrested of the gun and facts related to it, not about your family, but nice film anyway.

  • this video is awesome.

  • Mike, my only complaint is your shooting will get a lot better if you stop chewing gum with your mouth open - otherwise keep up the good work!

  • Mike,

Thank you for an entertaining short. The only criticism I might offer is to consider picking up a steadicam dv rig at some point in the future, to smooth out the handheld shots. But otherwise, it was well-written, you did a great job cutting it, and you handled the subject matter in a thoughtful and entertaining manner. Submit it to a few festivals, if you haven't already, and I hope you continue to pursue both film AND gun collecting.

  • Thank you very much. Steady Cam...YES. It would definitely be something I would fix for a future piece. Let's just say, I've improved since then. Dang it's been four years! Thanks again!

  • anybody but an optimist would not like this documentary, fortunatly I am, any kind of gun is only as bad as the person who uses it so why do these people continue to watch these videos only to criticise, watch bird videos, or videos about kittens, they don't kill people, I really enjoyed the video!

  • hey Mike ,love your film. I like my 1919 browning, my grandfather fired a Lewis gun in ww1. the Che guy,, well he admires a guy that murdered 14000 people in the cuban revolution . nuf said keep up the good work. (got to handle a lewis gun in NV last yr!!!)

  • How do you spell it 2:35

  • ya i collect guns i have 50 and im only 15 and i got a few auto's i got a bar and a mg42

  • how young did you start I started at 12 i'm 16 and I only have 9 of course that is due to the unemployment i'm going through right but soon i'll be back on track

  • Awesome man. Fuck all these haters. You know the history and all that came with the gun. I felt the same way when I first fired the Thomson machine gun. One of my favorite machine guns of all time.

Yes, guns do kill people, but the history of them is all American.
