the fact that there wouldn't be a US office without the british one should speak volumes, but i have to admit that the character of dwight is absolutly brilliant, due to the different tones of the show though, a character like that would never have fitted into the original office. steve carrell is shit

i personally feel that the american version is much better than the british version. i'm not trying to show any nationalism, but i feel as tho the US version is WAY funnier, clever and the characters are more appealing. i have seen the original office and i got bored. i didnt think it was funny and rain wilson and steve carrell are just naturally better than whoever they're "up against". now the original version obviously deserves applause, but im just not into it.

they're both great shows, and i think it's a matter of preference. "british humor" is more about irony and dry humor. americans like slapstick a little more, and funny/unique characters.

The writers are writing what would be funny for their intended audience.  Where as the British version has a greater appeal to people who may relate to that kind of humor.

I really don't understand how one could be better than the other. They are both popular shows that each have a sizable fan base. Its like comparing a horror movie to a comedy.
