  • I have a question for you -

By the color [red] I see you got the Brass Generation, instead of the Nickel that they also produce, in the same keys. Did you chose the Brass one for a special reason? I'm about to buy 4 keys by Generation [Bb, Eb, G, F] and I still can't decide whether I want the Nickel or Brass. Currently I'm thinking about Nickel, but you playing the Brass sounds amazing as well!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • you're very good!

I've got a Generation in Bb also, but it's sounds not well like your one.

  • VERY SKILLED, INDEED!

  • I just play Tin Whistle for one week!!And super surprise to hear you play Banshee at 1:36 -2:16!!This is the first reel song I learnt ! ! ! Love your video!!

  • ive got a gen. Bb too, they're great!

  • says Bb in the info and the title.

Very nice btw! Love the Tin Whistle/Flute...

  • well played! what key is the whistle in?

  • Very nice..you are skilled..:)

  • it sounds great! Did you tweak it?

I saw your others videos, I really enjoyed it, good job dude! ;)

  • Sweeet! i want a whistle in Bb flat real bad. hey. if you or anyone else is interested, there a some good unknown songs that are played on a B flat whistle.

Id learn them myself but i dont have the right whistle lol anyways if ya wanna check em out its

    Jotunheimsfaerden-Svartsot

    Wanderer-Ensiferum

    Slania's song- Eluveitie

  • i can play ensiferum - ferrum aeternum

and Svatsot - Drekkar is coo lto.

    o and listen to

Under Varje Rot Och Sten by Finntroll ;)

  • do you have scores?

  • no unfortunaly not :(

i have to learn them by ear. stil can't play Drekkar of Svartsot.

but i can play Ferrum Aeternum.

  • @metalgod1993

    try playing INTRUMENTAL by FOLKEARTH

    its a nice tune

  • Folk earth is great!

Im gonna find out that song :P

  • I know these bands and songs. Do you know if it's possible to find scores? because they're not that easy.

  • i got both the generation D and Bb :)

but i prefer the sound of this one ^^ it doenst hurt the ear so much :p the D can be verry annoying sometimes (in my opinion) this one is a bit softer.

  • i will use this music "give me ur hand" in my wedding ceremony. the question is who can play tin whistle as good as you?

  • "give me your hand ":-) very nice!

  • This is brill, i love the first tune :)

  • como se llama la cancion

  • Brilliant!

  • where on earth does one learn these? its annoying because i want to make beautiful music like that and i cant >:(

  • If you have good ears, you can learn them by ear and by watching his fingers.. thats how im learning songs, by ear :-D i dont know read sheets, and i feel little shamed because of that :-/

But if you can read sheets there are hundred of all around net

  • i am thinking about playing a tin whistle. hope im as good as you

  • I really like the tone of this whistle. Really nice playing. Hope you post videos of you playing a D whistle.

  • Absolutely awesome playing!

  • hey, what bands play good versions of these songs? especially the first one.

  • planxty do a much faster version which is incredible, but played on uileann pipes. the chieftains do a nice soft and slower version aswell.

  • what is the whistle made of ? brass or nickel?

  • Judging by the red mouthpiece, the one he is playing is made out of brass :)

  • ooh captivating

  • Awesome!

  • what is the first tune you start with? Thank you

  • dude not gonna like you look like your completely in some kind of crazy glazed state when you play but its legit your great man keep it up

  • Based on this video I got myself a Generation in Bb, though mine is nickel instead of brass. I love it, and it is a lot easier to play than I thought it would be! Of course my whistling doesn't sound anywhere near as good as yours, but I'm working on it. I've been playing along with this video, the first tune at least....the end is tricky but I can play most of the tune. Haven't started working on the other 2 yet but I will as they are lovely..

  • Thank you for this sweet music. I the Irish be mighty proud of you. : 0 )

  • Have a go at The Dark Island - it sounds great on the Bb!

  • My first whistles were all generation ones. They changed the design in the late 70's. The earlier ones were the same as the Faedog ones, I found the later ones were not as good but the Bb was the best of them. I just started playing again after about 15 years away.

  • I'm not that crazy about those generationwhistles myselve, i was dissapointed in the quallity...

The sound, in the beginning: great!

After a while, it gets detoned...

  • wow, that is a braw whistle. I might have to get one for myself. Briliantly played.

  • Beautiful!

  • I wonder if that is the same pitch whistle used in "Dirty Old Town".

  • Wonderful!!!

  • is the song called give me your hand?

  • Read the vid info, he has listed the songs.

  • thats not really a fair response. Under the listing its called "Tabhair Dom Do Lamh", translated meaning "Give me your Hand". cant really assume someone to be able to translate that.

  • Good point, my bad. :)

  • Yes it is indeed one in the same, -Give me your hand- ... You will also find the same tune along with the folk song -White Orange and Green-

  • Nice Tone, not harsh like little "Waltons D Whistle"

Never buy waltons, I adjust my embouchure as much as possible and still no niceness in the upper register

  • wooow your so good

  • Don't beat your self up about the blip, it's cool! lol It sounds great, if you don't give attention to it, it will sound like you never made a mistake. Your awesome!!! lol

  • yummy

  • you're beautiful

  • That was incredible! Bravo!

  • Wow, I didn't even know there were so many types of tin whistles. I thought a whistle was a whistle. But I just got one in D and it doesn't sound as pure as others I've heard. But then again, it's probably me.

  • your whistle sounds great! the sound is warm and thick. I have a whistle too, the mouth is made of plastic and it sounds very airy. I thought only all-tin whistles sound good.. but i can see that yours is half plastic too! how can i find a good whistle?

  • maybe it's not only the whistle that has to be good...

  • My sweetest, truest whistle is a cheapo plastic/tin, and got run over by a truck. I put it back together with duct tape. Go figure.

  • BTW, lovely playing, Whistler.

  • i'm a little confused, it's extremely hard to find tin whistle sheet music in Bb, so how did you change the song?

  • It's always played the same way no matter the key your whistle is in.

  • @nwalker93 it's also the same fingering as the Great Highland Bagpipe, so sheet music for that would work fine

  • @nwalker93 it's the same key as the Great Highland Bagpipe, so same fingering and same sheet music

  • Great!

  • 7,- euro

  • how much did your tin whistle cost? where'd you get it at? know of any places in texas?

  • YOU CAN GO TO SAMASH

  • Q lindo tema! Tabhair Dom do Lamh, verdad? buenisimo!

Me encantan los whistles en tonos graves. Tin whistler, hechele un ojo a los mios! los hice yo :P

Pura vida, saludos desde Costa Rica hermano!

  • i have one too! love th sound, but the brass coating on mine has flaked off in parts, revealing unsightly dull patches especially where my thumbs are when i play it.

  • Mine too, I call it charm, I like the used look.

  • I agree =) Mine's flaking off where the fingers touch and I love it. Shows it's played and has a history =)

  • omg my cockatiel started dancing and bobbing his head listening to your tunes lol...kool

  • is this a nickel or a brass whistle?

    thanks :)

    sounds amazing

  • nevermind. i think it's brass...

  • That was amazing. I loved that so much, and now I'm going to buy myself a tin whistle. Do they have one in the key of C? I play trombone, so I can't transpose. (But I CAN read treble clef; I played piano since I was four)

  • yes, they tons in the key of c. mine is called a Clarke C whistle. It has kind of an airy sound to it. This guy is playing a generation style whistle. his is more thorough sounding.

  • this tune made me cry lol

  • this is really beautiful!

thank you for posting this, can you please tell me what the fingering is like compared to bagpipes! i really want to play this instrument when im not playing pipes as its so beautiful

  • identical fingering, depending on the pipes.

  • I have a "Generation" too! :D (mines in D though) Great job, sounds very nice.

  • AGREED, sounds better than your susato. love the sound... i'll try to get one. i only got a feadog and a oak.... all i can get in Bolivia lol.

  • I have that whistle too ;)

When i played that EXACT tune ages ago, when I was about 8 we called it the poor old woman =|

  • ok... you have just inspired me to start playing the tinwhistle.

  • how did you learn to play so well?

    Lessons or self-taught?

  • im assuming lessons. he looks irish, family probably taught him.

but that doesnt mean he didnt work on his own. the will to play and practice came from him, the lessons provided the information.

so it goes either way =)

  • he is from Spain

  • Absolutely fantastic, thankyou....... That's inspired me to learn to play the tin whistle

  • nice

  • loved it

  • ahhh.. beautiful, rolling green hills and airy wide open spaces come to mind when i hear this

  • oooo i like your hair!

and of course, the playing is amazing as usual. :]

  • did you make that up on the fly?

  • I have a Generation in D. Do you have one yet> what do you think of it?

  • I have three of those...Wait.... acc.. 4 xD

I played that tune in primary school except we called it ''The poor old woman'' =S

  • Wow. Nice.

  • that was nicely played

  • i have the same whistle in nickle and blue i like how it sounds

  • can you get me some tips on how to play the tin whistle properly cuz i have one and trying to learn it i know some of the music.. not that great yet..

  • WAY better. every video is better man.

  • i am giting a Tin Whistle cuz of your Videos ps right back

  • can youshow me how to play that?

  • mi tin whstle esta en DO

    no suenaigal

  • seguro que esta en DO? xDD pues si esta en do (c en ingles creo) solo tienes que pasar las partituras a esa afinacion =P

  • Have you transposed the music lower?

I can't see any match from the Bb you start with and anyone of the scores you linked.

Thank you so much, so called "kudos" for your skill.

  • yes dude this is tight!

i am goin to get a few tin whistles soon

does anyone have a website they would recommend buying from?

  • I can play the first song on my violin and tin whistle

  • One more thing I wanted to add about the fipple on the Generations - if you can, shave the fipple a tad so there is more air going in less area - you'll get a much finer tone.

  • i am getting one in the mail tomorrow !!!

  • Hola!, he visto tus 40 videos! xD.

  • I got a Generation in D, its the best i think, a smoth and relaxing sound i can upload some vids if my camera should work

  • Why does every1 think that Generation whistles r crap? i have 3, n they're all awesome. No point payin huge prices for somethin u can get 4 less thats just as good quality. Brill choon by the way mate, keep it up

  • The generations aren't crap, its just the high Ds that people complain about. My little Gen D really does suck, the high octave D is totally scratchy and tinny. The plastic fipple somehow is badly made on the high Ds, its a manufacturing fault. the Bbs, however, are lovely. Mine is :)

  • Generation has been known to have wide gaps in their production of brass - after the manufacturing is complete, (and yes even after attempting to tune) the whistles still come out extreme flat or sharp. Usually happens with the D's and C's. If you have a decent one of those you are one of the lucky ones! I have 2 Generations in D and they are both different. (Fipple broke on one, not their fault.) The chiffs are completely different in tonal quality.

  • I've got a generation C, D and Bb, and only the Bb has a good sound. I'm now not talking about whether they're false or not (they are), but they just sound bad. I also got three clarke whistles (two different types of D and a C-whistle) and they sound just perfect. They also aren't false. So for every song in D, G, A or F I use a clarke-whistle. Much better ;)

  • Ah Clarke ... mighty fine sound till the wood gets damp! Good thing you have two in the same key! One of my Clarke's in D double tones because the wood has become loose, but the C is perfect - sounds just like a small wooden flute.

  • One of my Clarke's is about a decade old, and it still sounds fine, so you're the only one with that problem...

  • No I agree - that's why I have 2 in D. My C I bought in the late 70's and is one of the best C whistles I've ever owned.

  • I am new to whistles but this is my thinking, when learning, building confidence is important. If the whistle isnt in tune through both octaves then the student may feel that thier playing is bad. I started with generation whistles but they really are crap (except Bb) I now have a Dixon tunable high D and a Kerry low D. My advice, try a cheap whistle to see if you really want to learn then quickly get a mid priced/quality whistle.

  • man u and ur bro are superb!!!!!!!!!

    use should make a cd??

  • Hola!!

¿Cuánto viene a costar un aparato de esos?

Muchas gracias, por cierto, tocais genial!

  • Unos 6 euros. Gracias.

  • Generation is the crappest brand of tin whistle, I've found, but that B flat sounds okay... O_o

  • cool wish i could do that ;D

  • nice

  • how much did it cost ??

  • WOah again bor your wicked!!!! hahaha

  • So Great!

  • dude absoutly amazing! I'm in California for the summer and listening to you play brought me back to the hills & forests of Fermanagh & Tyrone! Thank you! Kevin (from belfast)

  • Hmmm. My generation in C is horrible. Not only to play but the sound. . . It is very nasal and airy in a bad way. I forget who makes my Penny whistle in D BUT it plays and sounds much better. I wonder if it is just generations c thats weird because the size of the bore and the whistle its self may make the whistle play better? I dont know but good job. I like the little bass drum with the foot action. . .!

  • wow thats confusing. . . Maybe your Bb plays better than my C because it is larger with a differant size bore and all. . . Or do you have any tips?

  • My generation in C is crap. In D too. In Eb too (not so much though). In F is good and the ones in Bb are my best whistles. Why? No idea.

  • mmm~ tin whistles ^-^ *love*

  • thats amazing! wow... i have that same whistle and it sounds nowhere near as good as that!

  • Just wanted to tell you that I've watched a lot of your videos and many of them are really quite impressive and all of them them are thoroughly enjoyable. Keep it up!!! Sláinte

  • when you are older than than 18 .. could we go out on a date?

  • Hmm, are there different kinds of tin whistles? You did really good ^_^

  • You play very nice.

  • you should play the titanic song!

  • I have this one (with a blue top though) and a small (regular sized) one in D

Since Im cheap, this Bflat acts as my low whistle :P

  • How many € cost aprox. one of this to begining?¿'

  • Nice One.

I love playing this "tabhair doh domh la" with de Low whistle in D

  • i don't know why, but i got all teary eyed when i heard this you're really good at playing that..:D

  • you look so relaxed! good playing pj :)

  • loved it!! awsome as always PJ keep up the good work :)

  • I like the sound of that Penny Whistle. It sounds more like a real Tin Whistle than the plastic one you played. Buy some more of those in different keys...

  • that is the most beautiful tone...i have one in D :D it sounds nice too. im a bit pitchy in the higher registers but yours sounds gorgeous..

  • good work man, btw, whats the brand on your Low whistle?

  • The new whistle works nicely, keep it. I miss the guitar.

  • I love it!! hehe *giggle* :P ;)

  • you are fantastic! keep it that way!!!

  • You can get a whole set of these (in the original set-display packaging they're commonly displayed in, in music stores)by going to the website of Groth Music (grothmusic*com) and searching for Generation Flageolets. You'll see an image of a set of these in all keys, in Generation's original packaging. You should try Lark in the Morning, as well, or Song of the Sea - both excellent resources for scores of folk instruments, including true whistles.

  • A flageolet has four hole in the front and two in the back. A tin whistle has six in the front.

    So count.

Flagoelets developed into tin whistles, they are not the same thing.

  • That's what I'm establishing. The packing that the Generation Co. puts these pipes into clearly labels them "flageolets". So read.

  • You make a flageolet sound very nice and warm. If you are looking for a tinwshitle, you haven't got one; this is a type of fipple flute called a flageolet, which you're playing here. It sounds nice, nonetheless.

  • I'd say you're wrong. But thanks.

  • Oh, you're welcome; I play in a couple of bands in New England and have played for almost 20 yrs. - including in Holland and Minnesota. I understand the confusion, though - they are commonly called «tin whistles» by many, though with the plastic mouthpiece - the 'fipple' - they are a fipple flute, more specifically a flageolet. Generation Mfg. CO. calls this product a flageolet, even.

  • Very sweet! It makes me dream of far away places!

  • All Tin Whistles have a plastic mouthpiece - the mouth piece isn't made of Brass or Nickel plated.

  • Goof alert here!

  • Not so. Many tinwhistles have plastic mouthpieces, true, but many of the better quality ones, and those that are made closer to traditional design do ot have plastic mouthpieces. This is truly a flageolet, not a tinswhistle, that he's playing.

  • Did you get that at a pawn shop? The mouthpiece looks like its made of cheap plastic.

  • It's a popular brand of flageolet (the type of flute this flute actually is). They're made in Britain by the Generation company. There are higher end versions, as well. Cheap plastic can yield a decent sound. I play this and many others, and they all do well, though depending on the instrument, I prefer no plastics.

  • keep posting videos i love it

  • dem high notes am a beotch, eh ? nice job!

  • I love this one too, good job!

  • Ur not like pip and frodo ur like sauron mean and full of doody!
