  • Make your own album new guy! Fucking assholes! Respect Layne's legacy.

  • Never saw the comment that got removed (mrjuliesguy)........

  • Let me fuckin sing for em, damn lol

  • LENNY KRAVITZ IN ALICE IN CHAINS?

  • Give the guy respect, he does a good job at singing this! And I'm fucking happy they're still around performing this music. Layne will still not be forgotten.

  • *Layne Staley*

  • im sorry but nobody should even try to sing this song other than layne cmon ppl have some respect

  • People seem to have a problem that I consider this song "sacred" it's my opinion, I know Jerry wrote the song but I just don't want anyone to replace Layne in AIC, let them change their name or write new songs, I am a guitar player and have been playing since 1976 so I have opinions about certain things - if you don't like my opinion that's fine but don't get all music producery on me

  • @MrJuliesguy

    Well said!!!

  • @MrJuliesguy I'm with you dude. Leave it alone cause it will never be as good as with Layne.

  • Comment removed

  • @swadewade73 And why do people like you always have to bring race into it?

  • This is a fucking disgrace

  • Criticts*

  • Most of the cridicts against William are just simply bigoted because he's part black. Get over it.

  • @swadewade73

or even more simple, because he's not layne and can't deliver the songs in the same way

  • @gibbs300zx

fine.......Laynes dead.....and the other guys want to tour and make music still......so, what they replaced the guy........(example).most can't play like Stevie Ray Vaughn but they still play his songs.........

  • LAYNE ,I MISS YOU

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME AND THE LAST

  • I am a huge Chains fan. I don't know much about how they picked the new lead singer, but I don't think he fits. Not because no one can replace Layne, but this guy just doesn't seem to fit IMO. They really should have looked around. Hey they could have had me!

  • I think Will is doing a decent job as the lead singer. Even though Jerry could have easily done it himself. But this Jerry didn't force this on anybody. It came to be from a tsunami benefit concert, and just kept going from there. And I for one am so glad that it did keep going. They've kept their unique sound and didn't change because its the sound that AIC fans will truly recognize.

  • Alice in Chains is a sound. The songs are terrific. Jerry Cantrell made a good decision. Layne was great, of course. R.I.P., man. I don't think they are dishonoring Layne by going on. Fans want to hear the songs.

  • this is a really piece of shit...... fuck william. hey layne no one sings like you anymore......

  • R.I.P Layne...

  • are they looking for a new replacement for william ? im in for the audition i look like layne and i can sing

  • not the same without layne

  • I think that these bad opininions about Will are caused by the people singing or rather screaming along :) You'd better listen to audio version from Japan which is in suggestions. The quality of sound is very good and I can't see any dislikes.

  • The new guy is a good enough singer and you have to give him credit for having the balls to try and step in after Layne, but shit, some songs should just be left sacred and this is one of them, it kind of hurts the ears to hear anyone else in this song, fuck i miss Layne...

  • @MrJuliesguy Nah....sorry, Jerry is a MASSIVE part of this band and wrote more than half of everything. This is a part of his life and he sang a large portion of the original...it sounds great and he has every right to play this, and Layne would not have one bad thing to say about it. AIC.....so glad they came back. Layne is missed, but Jerry is fucking awesome as well.

  • @MrJuliesguy money talks.....men

  • @MrJuliesguy , Totally agree.

  • @MrJuliesguy One of the Pitchers from Boston put out an album where he covered this song. Aint nothing sacred.

  • who the fuck are u to say whats to be left sacred, this is for the band to decide NOT you.

  • @MrJuliesguy Considering Jerry Cantrell wrote the song and not Layne, I think the "sacred" nature is within the listener...not to mention, songs are written to be sung, not hidden away...

  • @MrJuliesguy

I agree with you; Layne is such a great loss. This is painful to listen too; just like Rooster.

  • @MrJuliesguy that new guy sings like uf he's crying, man nobody can take Layne's place, but there's a lot of people with a decent voice to sing songs like this, this guy sucks

  • @MrJuliesguy I agree just not the same, but then again I dont know how the rest of the band thought they could go on without the biggest part of their band

  • @MrJuliesguy Layne was a great singer, buy, Alice in Chains are Jerry Cantrell. Layne's unique style was fashioned by Jerry. R.I.P Layne. Long live Alice in Chains!

  • @MrJuliesguy *but, not buy*

  • @MrJuliesguy you are so right !!! layne added meaning and feelings to the lyrics of this song like noone else can!

  • Nice! drosemusic. com Listen, Like, Share

    drosemusic. com

  • this sucks cock. R.I.P LAYNE

  • i think people forget that a band is not just a group of celebrities, they are friends playing songs together.. just because one person is not in that band anymore doesnt mean that those people dont want to play those songs. they got a new friend in their band. they still have a good time playing their songs. All the haters that dont have fun watching, get the fuck off these videos then.

  • Alice in Chains lite... Cantrell should move on and try something new instead of beating this dead horse...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 he did...it was called boggy depot...obviously didnt last

  • @chrisjonesjr11 : He did another one, too... don't think it sold as well. So, it's sad that he feels like he can make more money by throwing for hire guys together and calling the sorry mess Alice in Chains, when it's clearly not going to approach the original's popularity, either... oh well, rock stars and integrity just don't seem to mix...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 AIC isn't dead, Staley is. You need to understand that AIC doesn't mean Staley, he was the vocalist, not the fucking band.

  • @brunobb1 : Tell you what, compare album sales between the old version and this one. That will tell the tale for sure.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 who cares about the album sales? The quality is what matters and the new album kicks ass

  • @brunobb1 : "who cares about album sales"?? Apparently Cantrell does, else he'd move on to something new instead of holding on to the AIC name and employing "for hire" guys to do this stuff... he should take a page out of the Beatles book... or Zep's... but, let's be honest, AIC is nowhere near the caliber of band either of those two were... instead, Cantrell will be more like Foghat. Touring around for years and years with whoever will join up... in 20 years, he'll have 20 year olds...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 maybe he just wanted to continue playing the songs? I don't know if you noticed, but the new album sounds like the old AIC, they returned with the same sound which is rare in bands now-a-days

  • @brunobb1 : He wanted to continue playing those songs? More like those songs pay the bills!! No one was interested in his solo stuff. And it's sad that the dude can't progress beyond AIC... after 20 years his sound should have progressed by some extent... instead, he's churning out the "grunge". 90s nostalgia.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 Look, I don't care if he's doing it for prophit or not, I just care for the songs and I thought that the new album was surely one of their best, the rest is all small details.

  • @brunobb1 : "prophit"??? Well, whether it's one of their best or not is purely subjective. I'm just saying it's not coming from an honest place, artistically... it's an act of desperation.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 -- why change a good thing? im happy this sound is still alive, it was great then, and great now. And might I suggest that until you meet and interview every single person on the planet, that you refrain from stating that `no one was interested in his solo stuff.` ...as I am a fan of it. And also, maybe you should meet and interview Jerry and ask him why he plays the songs today, instead of, once again, assuming you know all the reasons behind every fucking move he makes....

  • @rawkgawdez : Ok, when I say "no one was interested..." I mean not enough people were interested to keep him doing it. Ok? And, although I certainly do not "know all the reasons behind every fucking move he makes..." I can surely tell when someone's falling back into tried and true holding patterns instead of moving forward. This sound is decidedly NOT "still alive"... no more than Psychedelic music of the 60s, Arena rock of the 70s, etc... disposable pop/rock has a shelf life...

  • i get ill when i hear someone other than layne singing this song, not the same without him

  • also, Will is 30 times the guitar player that Layne was. Do you see Scotty Olsen on stage up there? Nope, don't need him.

  • I like the way they started this out. It's more like the studio cut instead of the unplugged performance in 96.

  • Duvall Sucks. Jerry should just sing all the songs. I'm glad I saw them when it was just Jerry singing.

  • @aicfuel You suck and sould die.

  • what are people bitching about... william sounds good

  • jerry sounds awesome

    the other saddens me

  • alice in chains era poesia con layne ahora solo es musica....

  • I respect every current member of Alice, even Duvall. Their new music sounds much better than most of the shit out there these days. Having said that I have to also say that they are nothing to me without Layne, he was what made them Alice in Chains and without his vocals I cannot listen to them. To go on as Alice with out Layne just isnt right to me. RIP

  • @vanzeppelin7 JERRY IS ALICE IN CHAINS! In my oppinion he can have a new singer, new bassist, new drummer, new everything. As long as Jerry Cantrell is on that stage, it's Alice in Chains to me. He wrote damn near ALL of the music. He wrote more than 50% of the lyrics, Jerry IS Alice in Chains.

  • Buddy you have to admit Layne was the voice of Alice in Chains...understand that bro...

  • @Destination5Unknown Granted, Layne's voice was very unique and without him, Chains does lose that voice, but people give Staley and Cobain way too much praise and respect than they deserved and it just kinda irritates me.

  • I hear you bro...I understand where you're coming from. I'm just glad they were and continue to be a part of our lives...

  • @Destination5Unknown The fact of the matter is is that even if Layne was still alive right here and now, William would probably still be the new lead singer of Alice in Chains 'cause Layne would be in and out of rehab clinics and still dealing with the depression of a lost loved one. He never did get over losing her and as long as he lived he never would.

  • @ComaAlpha alice in chains was 50 percent layne 50 percent jerry, regardless if jerry wrote most of their stuff, take either of them away and its not the same

  • @ih8japscraps that statement right there shows me your ignorance. So when Hagar replaced Roth, that means that Eddie and Alex should've changed the name of Van Halen? You're a god damn dumb ass.

  • Alice in chains is my favorte band. i listen to them everyday of my life. but i refuse to listen to there new stuff with the new singer. i think he sounds nothing like him and ruins the whole vibe of the band. no disrespect to the original members but if you wanted to continue your careers are musicians you could have made a new band and it probably would have been great and would have done extremely well. im happy that alice in chains is doing good right now.

  • how about all the immature haters shut up and respect Jerry's choices and selection. The man is a musical genius. He knows what is best for his band, unlike all of you basement dwellers. if you dont like it, get the fuck outta here. :D

  • Of course it's not the same as it was with Layne, but they're still a great band.

  • Duvall is the right choice to keep AIC going...why would you want AIC to end, because Laney is dead? GOtta keep going man! Duvall i think, makes AIC much better!

  • I hate when people say Cantrell was the brains behind Alice and yada yada. STFU!! I'm sick of hearing that bullshit. Everyone acts like Layne Staley wrote nothing and all he did was sing. WRONG. Layne wrote plenty of Alice songs and it was the way he and Jerry sang together that made the band so unique. The new Alice is basically Jerry's solo stuff with the AIC name. William barely contributes to the album from what I heard of it.

  • Phil Anselmo + Alice in Chains.... that's a band!!!... Duvall??? .....He sings well but I don't like his style..

  • Duvall licks balls

  • boooooo still good music but garbage replacement!!!!!

  • OK here's my take. Duvall HAS 100% got nuts to do this music KNOWING people all over are gonna write and say shit about him cos we ALL KNOW nobody could replace Layne who was the undeniable SOUL of Alice in Chains. So credit to him for doing it.

Having said that for fucks sake, Layne would be turning his grave listening to this total shit (not helped by a crowd of pricks) It sounds like a BAD karaoke night gone wrong. POOR POOR version.

  • haha the audience is so off key

  • Blasphamy, no less

  • I think DuVall is the perfect Guy and the new album Kicks ass !! ( <----- Will always Miss Layne ) But i am so glad Chains is Back !

  • SHUT the fuck up everybody!! Don't like it then don't fucking type shit about it. Layne is gone and that's that, we move on you retarded bastards.

  • Okay... I'm officially sick and tired of everyone bitching about Duvall. Of course AiC isn't gonna sound the same without Staley. Get the fuck over it. Staley will always be missed, but Duvall is pretty great as well.

  • nope.

  • doesn't sound like alice in chains anymore :( i hate layne for dying !

  • pretty fkin cool...

  • Why is it I see everyone bitch about Duvall replacing Staley and no one forgetting the drastic difference after Mike Starr got the boot and was replaced by Inez. AIC was prime time with Facelift and Dirt. After that it was quality but the chemistry was at peak when it was the original show.

  • Gotta love Alice in Chains, but I have to say, the new lead singer sounds a bit too Kermit the Frog-ish for my taste.

  • WOW ITS STILL POWERFUL

  • Duvall has balls for stepping into those shoes, that's not the point though... None of the songs have near the "soul" Layne comanded. Layne's gave you goosebumps, this guy just "sounds" like him....

  • im actuall y quite mad that they are doing old alice in chains stuff ....it isnt right

  • the new album is great!!!, and duvall is an exellent singer

  • This is the WORST lead singer of any band alive. The worst vocals ever, he can't even give Layne Staley any justice. Sheesh. Terrible, terrible, terrible......makes me want to hate AiC (well just the singer)...

  • @jarbarian

you know they are the ones that chose him right?

  • @symanx00 Yes I know they did. I could do a much better job of paying respect to Layne than this guy did. Heck, he can't even harmonize correctly. He's embarrassing to the legend than Layne left with this band. It's an atrocity of what Duvall has left us with.... sheesh.

  • @jarbarian

    Sure you could..

  • @insomniacking

Ignorance is bliss, eh? I live in reality and this singer sucks eggs.

  • @jarbarian

Yes he does, and so do you.

  • this is the year before they had the acoustic hour, right?

  • Its hard to really hear what they sound like with Will with all the drunks singing along, their enjoying it lol

  • Trying to recapture the magic of the MTV unplugged show is impossible. Yep thats pointed at you Duvall. The emotional and song connection will never be there

  • Trying to recapture the magic of the MTV unplugged show is impossible. YEp thatsn pointed at you Duvall

  • the lyrics have gone down hill to with the new shit. i do love alice in chains the alc i grew up with that is. jerry used to sound alot like layne

  • @tool18me yeah the lyrics are way worse now.. even though Jerry writes most all of them STILL.. Duvall is badass, ppl are fucking ignorant. Thank God this band didnt just go die after Layne (rest his soul) ..

  • this was a great song. layne is most definetly rolling in his grave now. jerry alice in chains is nothing without layne. why couldnt you end alice in chains after layne died like cornel in sound garden. i never thouht i would say alice in chains sounded like shit before. kids today are not going to who layne staley is and he was the lite of the band. miss you layne r.i.p.

  • @tool18me agreed thats what pisses me off most. Is this is the new AIC image. New fans and kids growing up aren;t going to appreciate Layne Staley and all he did for the band.

they should change the name. its BS

  • @Wesson4 that is what im trying to say also. when i first saw the where is my brain video i did not believe it that jerry got the band back together and how bad that song sucked. glad to see someone agrees with me on this. ive been listening to them all my life and did not like seeing them reunite this way. like i said in a past post anbout soundgarden a member dies and the band breaks up for good alc should have been done when layne died, or the y should have at least made the band sound betta

  • @Wesson4 Why the hell should they change the name? Cantrell has always been the primary songwriter, he can do whatever he wants. And DuVall is an amazing singer. No he doesn't 'sound like Layne', but Layne went and nuked himself on drugs didn't he? So just be glad they're back. Their live show is awesome

  • @tool18me Fuck you. Layne this, and Layne that. It's all I read, and I'm sick and tired of this shit. At the end of his life, Layne didn't give an ass-wo[e about AIC. Yes, Layne was the best grunge singer to live, but give the other menbers some credict. Layne didn't start AIC, niether did he write the majority of the music. You think Layne is rolling over? What about Jerry, who almost fucking starts crying whenever he sings the AIC old songs? Do you think he enjoys your shit? HELL NO!

  • personally i doubt jerry cares about what we have to say about him

  • @tool18me Because their if more to AIC then just layne. Yes we all love him. But the band isn't Layne Staley. Its all of the members. Cantrell co wrote almost every song with layne. Part of the shitty sound is the shitty audio and audience singing in the back ground. Dont be so quick judge. Go see them live

  • @tool18me layne would not give 2 shits about alice in chains by now

  • @janicetiedemann Do you mean if Layne was still alive? I believe it. After the loss of his girlfriend, Layne cared less and less about the band and started to care less and less about living his own life. If it wouldn't have been an overdose that killed him, it would've been something else. He was detirmined to die young.

It's kind of a Romeo and Juliet romance story.......in a drug induced heavy metal way.

  • @tool18me You realize Jerry wrote the better majority of their material right? I hope you know that.

  • The last verse where William sings Layne's part and Jerry sings his part, I think they should've changed. Jerry should be singing Layne's part and William should be singing Jerry's part. Something's just off about it.

And how come it;s not the whole song?

  • mike inez's bass lacks the "friends don't let friends get friends haircuts" line

  • It doesn't sound the same without Layne, but I don't want it, too. He's gone and he's never going to come back. Trying to replace him is pointless, and I don't think that that is something that AIC is doing. They are just moving on as artists and who are we to judge them for that? Besides, hearing them sing Nutshell last Friday was a tear-jerker. You can hear the mad-respect Duvall has for Staley. They all love him, and I think this is a way of showing that love.

  • Layne will never come back... but this guy make Alice in chains as the Alice in chains we've known.. Great the that they cant carry on.. A friend of mine thought that check my brain was a song from the Layne era... it is just Alice in chains :D

  • blah blah layne is better blah blah....bon scott or brian johnson...blah blah...whiners bitch about this isnt layne and shit...of course its not...you dont like it go listen to brittany

  • the new singer did good but no one can match layne staleys's voice

  • Yea I admit it's not that good.. But the video quality has a lot to do with it.. Duvall is a really talented singer.. Even though he can't compare with Layne.. In my opinion they should have changed the band name to something else.. Chill with the fuckin insults though ppl.. Rip Layne

  • Comment removed

  • @skoakes8 "Aloud this"? Geeze, learn how to use proper grammar before you speak. It is not a disgrace for AIC to continue. I just saw them Friday and night and it was a beautiful experience. It wasn't and will never be the same without Staley, but I would rather have Duvall than never hear them again. You aren't a true fan of a band if you can't grow with them. Anyway, as to whether Staley is rolling in his grave, we'll never know. We should just hope that he's finally found peace :)

  • Hehe this video is 4:20 long.

  • i wish the crowd would have shut the fuck up. They are making the song suck with their shitty voices.

  • that is horrible. anyone that thinks this is good is trying to convince themselves of it out of shear love of AIC. This should never have been allowed. I dont care if Jerry wrote most of the songs, Layne had a huge hand in most of the lyrics, and his singing is what made the band great. Dont get me wrong, Jerry is amazing and a total hero of mine, but Layne was one in a million and we were all simply lucky enough to be here when he was. No one can sing like him and match his emotion or feeling.

  • @inspectorluv I don't think that they're trying to. Duvall has a different approach to the songs than Staley did, which is good. It would be awful to hear him attempt to sing the way Staley did, because Staley was unique. However, that doesn't mean that Duvall is bad. He's just different :) It's an adjustment to make, but I think that if you truly love a band, you'll accept whatever they choose to do. I mean, that's what love is all about, right?

  • @inspectorluv thank you

  • Layne will always be missed, it's not the same without him.

  • still awesome! Even though you can hear the boos in the beggining and the cheers everyone has a love for Aic no matter what.

  • just makes me sad that layne is not there

  • JUST AIN'T THE SAME WITHOUT LAYNE. THIS IS WHAT THEY'RE STUCK WITH. WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO MATCH THE WRITING STYLE? NO ONE THAT'S WHO. AIC IS DEAD....SORRY.

  • @ducklimbaugh You sir, are a bad AIC fan. Jerry wrote most of the songs they recorded, Layne is my favorite rock singer of all time, but he didn't do most of the writing. Please get educated, then post.

  • @romehasfallenmusic lyrics were 50 50. that means alot

  • I do not like Duvall singing in new AIC.

  • years later and he still sounds terrible-- this is bad country vocals.

    twang twang nasal shite.

i guess he is a "great friend" of jerry's. he would need to be.

anyone that has written-- "he's good" or within a mile of Layne or any on pitch vocalist, ought to go to the emergency room without delay bc something life threatening is wrong with you...

the worst is that he shows NO FEELING for any lyric as he grinds all out of his nasal beek, unforgivable.

    --honesty is truth.

  • man.....this is sad to see, why would they let someone else act as if they are layne an sing his songs and use laynes bands name no matter if they are good or not its just wrong. like mother love bone would not use that name any more after andrew passed out of respect. they got a new singer, changer their name to pearl jam an never did any of andrews songs cause its just wrong. yeah they should go on an do music but they should have the respect for layne to not use the name AIC

  • Duvall is rockin it, man. I'm sure Layne would be proud that someone had the balls to pick up the mic. Not even Scott Weiland could replace that guy, but this solidarity among musicians is highly commendable. I'm gonna see AIC in July and thoroughly looking forward as there's someone worthy at the helm. So long as Jezza Cantrell is there, it will always be Alice In Chains. Peace

  • and for all you posers there are 2 original band members left the other two quit so fuck all you posers that think you got something to say.

  • is this were all the posers come to hang out and help sell out the music industry with there stupid comments about how its ok to replace a good singer with a singer that can mimic the original one for a few bucks?

  • amen h0II0h, layne sounded like he was confessing his sins when he sang this, that it made tragic and beautiful at the same time...Duvall does a helluva job, but he makes a bit too much into Daughtry.

  • i respect they've gone on, it would be a shame to waste so much talent. It must be hard for Duvall to live up to Layne but i will say this if i am lucky enough to see them live again i would rather they didnt play this particular song, I would find it hard to watch, too sad.

  • I'd say Black Gives Way to Blue is best what Alice has made so far. I mean Your Decision and albumer really fucks this place up.

  • everyone dissin on them stop just be happy thy are back with new music saw them oin concert couple weeks ago and they still rock best concert i have ever been to

  • AiC Lives on!

    Great job guys.

  • la raja el tema wn

  • eso no es alice in chains... si nstanley no es nadaaaa

  • This song has became a veggies soup with Duvall singing it. Where is all the pain and the sadness Layne put inside?

  • @h0ll0h

Layne was going through his problems.

Thats where the song has its meaning.

    Duvall does not have that.

Like the new stuff but he is not Layne.

Layne was AIC and that will never change.

  • he do sounds like Layne.

  • not like staley

  • no canta mal el patita pero jamas igualara la espectacular voz de layne staley

  • i think William will do good in AIC but they should stick with doing new stuff and not going back to the past b/c no one can come close to sounding like Layne and Jerry together. i like the new stuff and hopefully they will continue on with making music

  • all they are is a bad cover band of aic

  • "Hail, hail, rock and roll, deliver me from the days of old", Chuck Berry

  • @NostradamusInVegas If memory serves me correctly, Chuck Berry is the father of rock and roll and is Black? How in the hell can you love Alice In Chains or rock and roll and be pissed off at a truly outstanding band with a singer who has the complexion of the originator of this music that I love. All of you so called lovers of AIC Wake up, Grow Up and give credit where it is due !!! I guess you hate RATM because of the complexion Morello or De La Rocha too.

  • .....sorry..... technical difficulties lol!!! didn't mean to post this so many times!!

  • i know who wrote the song, and Thank You, CHEWY---- exactly!!!!

  • i know who wrote the song, and Thank You, CHEWY---- exactly!!!!

  • i know who wrote the song......and thank you CHEWY---exactly!!!!

  • Alice In Chaines shall never be the same without Layne

  • hope he feels good about singing songs that he has absolutely no personal connection with....... layne's music wasn't just "music", it was him sharing his heart and soul with us through his songs---- all the "new" aic fans seem to be taking to it i suppose, but those of us who have been here from the beginning see things a little differently. layne WAS alice in chains- no fill in singer could ever touch him or take his place in my book.

  • @bradyrooter This song was written by Jerry Cantrell.
