  • I like this cover. She sorta reminds me of my wife's cousin's wife. Good attitude projection.

  • She was fucking cute back then , Dayum !

  • While Ms Jones goes to extraordinary lengths to fill us in on the details of Chuck E being in love, she makes one crucial mistake: she forgets to provide us with a reason why we should give a damn.

  • Question: Where is your video? USELESS HATERS... I am glad lyrics are posted though... love the song but had the words wrong...(kinda)...lol

  • this was a gay song

  • say nothing bad about this girl, cause, she's got major backing, she's a sweet heart, and loved by many, just a heads up to those that don't know any better,,see ya !,,,,and,,,"rickie" says hi !

  • great song but it's P.L.P (public leaning post).

  • @ramdomperson5201 Is that a British thing?

  • @YankeeJet24 it's like loitering, just hanging out.

  • Love, love, love this. Real music, performed by real musicians, fronted by a great singer.

  • justin bieber is way better than this.. ( 8-P )

  • @deviatea Yup. And Chuck E. Cheese has better pizza better than Olive Garden too, right? And McDonald's is better than 5 Guys, ect. (There's no arguing with good taste!)

  • She wants a pizza-hawking rat for a lover? Whatever floats her boat I guess!

  • I figure that THIS is what JEWEL want's to sound like when she grows up. That's right, I think Jewel is almost like Rickie Lee Jones; Now if she only put forth the effort, she could just about do it.

  • I love women who have an overbite. Ricki has always been hot in that nerdy hipster sort of way that makes me swoon!

  • This one and "Weasel and the white boys cool" are her best songs.

  • please :) stop bad words peeps please :) just listen just love :)

  • I would think in a thousand years when this recording is played it will bring a smile to someones face.

  • @bill5893 Especially considering how badly music has declined in the last 20 years... imagine how bad the music of 3011 AD will suck (after ten centuries of decline!)

  • i love this song... I sing it to my dog, Chucky, and he jumps and licks and wags his tail.. gorgeous!

  • "That's not her! I know what's wrong! Cuz Chuck E's in love with the little girl singin' this song!"

  • Love ya Ricky Lee,

  • I LOVE THIS SONG .... BEFORE I SAY THIS ILL TELL YALL IM 28 AND BLACK IM NOT RACIST LOL BUT AT 0:41 IT SOUND LIKE SHE SAY HEY LIL NIGGA BOY .... LMAOOOOOOOOO

  • @dyrreunshelvin It does :/ weird !

  • @dyrreunshelvin POOR LADY HAS A BAD OVERBITE AND ALSO A MIDWESTERN ACCENT, THAT'S WHY I LOOKED FOR THE LYRICS, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND A LOT OF HER RENDITIONS, BUT I'M READING THE WORDS AND IT DOES SOUND SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU SAY EXCEPT THERE IS NO LOGIC TO HER HAVING WRITTEN THAT.

  • @bootsie530

"POOR LADY HAS A BAD OVERBITE AND ALSO A MIDWESTERN ACCENT"

rofl: I'm from the Midwest and, trust me, that AIN'T no Midwestern accent! ( I grew up listening to this song and, I could never make out about 80% of what she was singing.) I'm glad I Googled the lyrics - never appreciated the song much until then.

  • @mirrenmaniac I can't understand half of Bob Dylan's songs, and Mick Jagger? Forget it. Some singers purposely sing so that the words are unintelligible; they want to blend their voice with the music, and are not too concerned about enunciating distinctly. Listen to Rod Stewart; he does the same thing. And Robert Plant. I could go on and on.

  • @dyrreunshelvin, What?? That was quite a reach!! I played that part back 5 or 6 times and never heard anything close to what you claim you heard. Actually what she says is, "Hell, what can make a boy behave this way". Why do i have a feeling you already knew that and not black and racist? Just wondering.....peace

  • Yes...there was a time when music did not suck....good observation! Stay with that theme....it will carry you further than you know.

    RBj

  • CIAO!!! My mom use to play this on her 8 Track All Day Everyday!!!

  • Just gotta Love it!!!!

  • im 25 and this is still one of my favorite songs.

  • Ducky's in love!

  • @shivamlm .. ya know... I had totally forgot this song until I heard Dinozzo say that. At my age I forget alot, but I remember being "in love" with Ducky. But his name at that time was Illya.

  • it dosent matter how often i see this video. love it,and believe Rickie is so sexy.just love that over bite.

  • @jimlivs DO YOU HAVE A TRANSLATION FOR "P.I.P"?

  • WOW, THEIR ACTUALLY PLAYING INSTRUMENTS,AAHHHH THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

  • She's cute!

    Nice song and nice preformance!

    Otherwise not impressed!

Didn't she write and sing 99 Bottles of Beer On the Wall?

  • Oh my what memories! Nora Jones Insipartion! Got to be look and sound like sisters. Malama Pono!

  • After all these years "Chuck is still in love"!

  • I prefer her donig Stairway to Heaven.

  • @kyokogodai SCTV?

  • @dytakeda Yeah. Was just trying to have a little fun. Rickie Lee is wonderful, whatever she sings :).

  • Saw her do this on SNL in '78. Still a great song and sound.

  • Give a shout out if you are from Oakland and remember watching this video on SoulBeat - and you still remember the lyrics some 25 years later!!!

  • Apparently there was a time when music didn't completely suck.

  • @jhop9898 : Hope it ain't over ;-)

  • 19ans à l'epoque

aie aie aie!!! souvenir souvenir quand tu nous tiens!!!!

  • Play a little pool

  • @LARSMEIERI you have to be an accomplished musician to recognize that. this song is magically delicious!!!!! its in a class of its own, never tire of hearing it. ive never heard the album, what album is it from?

  • @maxwellmaxter You must be joking. That's from her debut (eponym) album The whole album is a gas. An absolute classic.

  • This song is about Chuck Norris having human feelings... But his name was changed for the songwriter's safety...

  • CLASSIC SONG.

  • Can some please tell me what p.i.p is are was? thanks :-)

  • @tbonds007 I'm guessing p.i.p might mean "person in person" in other words talking one to one. Anybody else think otherwise. Great lyrics and a total chilled song for lazy summer days, love it

  • @paulmac63 Thanks for being that someone who responded to my question. Great Song! :-)

  • @tbonds007 it is a great song. ive never understood or seen the lyrics other than the obvious. there is a clue she says pip down at the meter no more. are we talkin parkin meter? thats my guess. i love this tune takes me back to the day i first heard it.

  • @maxwellmaxter plus she shifts from second to first person,a very complex simple melodic tune

  • @paulmac63 i think it means play in public, cuz it then says he dont watch tv and hangs the sign on the door, which is probably dnd do not disturb, a cool song with lost slang.

  • @maxwellmaxter I think your explanation may have more merit than mine Max, maybe the meter mentioned is a bar or club?

  • I forgot just how cute she was. She's so damn cool.

  • Sheryl Crow didn't just rip her style, she stole her songs from her boyfriend, who she then dumped after she became successful. He later committed suicide. Sheryl Crow is one of the most wretched beings of all time.

  • The person this song was written about is sitting in my living room..

  • Dont Sherl Crow sounds just like RICKY LEE JONES?

  • @lilcarter8 sure, right before she wakes up

  • This generated some passion on the comments!

  • great lyrics, great performance.

  • By 1:15, i was in love...

  • is it just me?(besides the song)is she SEXY)

  • It's P.L.P. (Parking Lot Party).

  • @Yakutska21 Damn ! I am really glad you are ONLY SPEAKING FOR YOURSELF ! here is an idea ! BUY THE ALBUM. LISTEN TO IT ! ITS GOLD. Maybe the Rikki Lee Jones hook will get in you too !

And find out WHO Steve Gadd is , and why Rikki can ask him to play.....along with the rest of that band. They are a CLASS ACT. You enjoy yourself , y'hear ??? lolmao

  • 1:54 one of the most epic moments in history!

  • i remember this song me and my cousin use to pick on my sister and say Jackie is in love.because this was her favorite song.

  • TheKmbt......So you cannot understand the words in this video???

  • Good music period. Hard edge singing, but so precise, love it, and her.

  • Well is he here? I look in on the pool hall - LAWD I used to LOVE this song back in the day - still love it!

  • oh i love how she smiles when she sings. : )

  • Can not get this song outta my head now! Been stuck on it for 'tree days now!

  • I saw Rickie in Milwaukee a week ago. I got a free ticket. I don't know what language she speaks-couldn't understand a word and I'll be damned if I can remember one song she did?! Plenty of dynamics though-if you like dynamics go see her, oh well, like I said it was a free ticket.

  • loved this song as a kid... it sounded so playful both lyrically and musically... i never saw rickie lee jones on tv... seeing her here on youtube is quite a revelation on how her voice matches her quirky and attractive personality...

  • I was 7 years when this song came out. I love the music. Good song. Even 32 years. later

  • and once there was a Queen,

wow she was so cute too and we shall never see the like of her again.

  • before her time.

  • My first crush. I was 11 also and couldn't get enough of this.

  • She's the sample in the Orb's "little fluffy clouds"

  • Just a great song...all around!!!

  • have not heard this in years, love it,!!!

    \

  • I was eleven when this first came out. This for some reason reminded me of the kid a couple of years older than me who lived up the street when it first came out. Maybe because he just started experiencing girls and they liked him. But then he died in a car crash right after that and it reminded me of him even more. And that was the first experience I had with death with someone I knew. Depressing yeah, but somehow not.

  • I have always enjoyed this song, and I love the way she performs it in the video.

  • This song has so many hooks in it I don't know where to start-the best being Rickie Lee's vocals she's having so much drop-dead fun singing this. A place called the "Meter" and the off-metered cadence of the lyrics and that catchy-as-ever rhythm...

It would be a fabulous number even without vocals but together there's few things finer I'll just say...WOW!!! I still love humming this and trying to figure out exactly what the words are

  • Who's the jerk with the beard who broke her heart?

  • I've always been pissed at Tom Waits for totally destroying her, teaching her how to overdrink the way does. Some can handle it, most can't. She could have been so much greater.

  • Rickie Lee hit #4 in Billboard, 7-7-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I was pregnant with my first baby when this was in the charts..

    Great memories..

  • @ThePamelaross

in what year it was ?:)

  • @moti4love 1979. only seems like yesterday xx

  • The verse is P.L.P=Personal Leaning Post! Trust me-I've been listing to this since 1972! Besides the fact that I asked her!!!

  • Is that her? What's her name?

Oh, it's never going to be same.

    But that's not her

    I know what's wrong--

Chuck E's in love with the little girl who's singing this song

  • pLp. "public leaning post"

    :-)

  • She Be Girl

  • it's perfect for me !

  • @swastikausa

They split up back in 1980....

  • it's not P.I.P - it's P.L.P - public leaning place

    :)

  • I love Rickie Lee! ...and she loves pitbulls and poptarts.

  • @2Bad829

    And you're a fucking dickhead...

  • She is one hip chick! She's like Tom Waits in a polka dot dress. I always liked Rickie Lee Jones and probably always will.

  • @XPIOLT You do know that Tom and Rickie Lee were lovers, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @91Bear No I didn't, knew it had to be though. Thanks.

  • If this ain't healthy, this is some kinda clean!!!

  • anybody notice the "poppy",had a big influence on the music industry,,thank "god" !

  • Too hard to sing !!!

    She's a champion !!

  • I hope it isn't contagious!.... Priceless..... Why can't we make music like this anymore?

  • they do try to make music like this nowadays but they do not have the ability to make it sound good.

this was a nice, more basic song in contrast to the polished disco back in 1979. acoustic music of the 1990s- today is total junk. this was simplified music but still had melody and polish added to it.

i iked this song then and still do now.

  • i aiways loved this song! i know every word !

  • Her best song along with "Weasel and white boys cool"

  • Great song that I remember so well but just came apon it on YouTube. Thanks for posting. You have to love Rickie.

  • Is she related to Tommy?

  • listening to this, in my mind im singing "I'm not going to write you a love song, 'cause you asked for it, 'cause you need one..."

  • Awesome!

  • One of the greatest songs ever! Chuck E Weiss must be some guy for this to written for him!

  • does anyone remember "the BLF Bash? from WMMS in Cle? miss it liove ....

  • so what is a meter?... how come you dont come an PLP with me down at the (Meter ) no more

  • Rickie Lee Jones - when everyone else at the bar was playing Michael Jackson on the jukebox, I was playing Chuck E.'s in Love and loving every minute of it! I would sing along at the top of my lungs and sounded nothing like Ms. Jones, but I loved this song! So damn cool!

  • OMG!!! Ya know, I had this album waaaay back in 1972---I NEVER KNEW it was PLP!!!!! That now, Finally, makes sense! Thank you for that- PLP lol like way back then she was texting, huh? :) I STILL love this whole album! It's just as good today as it was then!

  • It is PLP, not PIP. But I think it stands for PERSONAL Leaning Post.

  • It is PLP, not PIP. But I think it stands for PERSONAL Leaning Post.

  • It is PLP not PiP... it means, "Public Leaning Post," i.e. a friend's shoulder to lean on to pour out your troubles.

  • BLUES.LOVE THIS ...WHERE DID SHE GO? WHAT HAPPEN TO HER ?

  • ....if you think that way about the 'female singing this song' mate ...wtf you doin watchin' it in the first place? leave yr neg's elsewhere man..you ain't got nothin over her...!

  • Queen of Cool......This song always been a favourite, always will be...where are you now? ....does anyone have the original versions (not live) of Young Blood and Woody & Dutch on the slow train.....please post up if you do..cheers

  • this broad was the sign of the times, enjoy ! ,or, shut the fk' up ! ,,,rickie's" too cool" !!

  • It's "how come he don't PLP (play a little pool)..

  • The female singing this song is a bleeding heart liberal who loves non stop entitlements. Who cares if Chuck E's in love. I happen to think that both Ricky Jones, Chuck E and the people who like this song are all a bunch of ass clowns.

  • @gaughank i didnt know this was a political forum? thanks for sharing

  • I hope it isn't contagious

  • 懐かしいね!

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the above "lyrics" are full of mistakes. Here are some of the lines that were written incorrectly ...corrected! :

And how come he turned off the t.v. and hanged that sign on the door?...

He learned all of the lines, now, and let me tell ya

He gonna stutter when he talks!

...He sure has acquired this kinda cool, inspired sorta jazz when he walks..

That means that Chuck E's in love..I look in on the poolhall.

He was sittin' behind us down at the Pantages

  • Wow this is hard to sing :O

  • @LeanneLouiseMusic

This is not hard to sing if you're an alto and specialize in being a copycat :-)

  • @YouTubulizer thats where I am going wrong then lol I try not to copy :)

  • Hello from France,

LOVE IT.. THANK GOD FOR THE 70's..

  • the epitome of sexy

  • this is my moms favorite viedo

  • omg the red dress with the polka dot dress and beret. amazing .

  • Il y a des beautés qui vont au delà des yeux et que l'on découvre avec les oreilles !

  • her and tom waits were an item

  • I was the first in the U.S. to add this on my playlist......good song!

  • @SimanetteObsessed Phonetically indeed, your dad did say that.

  • This song reminds me of a neighborhood band that played this song. The Mrs sounded so much like Rickie Lee Jones. We'd sit on old car seats drinking a brew, enjoying an unforgettable concert of friends. Awesome song. Fun, simple times back then.

  • This song reminds me of a neighborhood band we'd go listen to out of their garage that played this song. The Mrs sounded so much like Rickie Lee Jones. We'd sit on old car seats drinking a brew, enjoying an unforgettable concert of friends. Awesome song. Fun, simple times back then.

  • Remember this song like it was yesterday rather than 30 odd years ago!

  • This song was just an intro to Rickie, and she gave me years of good music and good memories...

  • Sheryl Crow in that voice maybe...?

  • @kennyscotten

    Fuck off...way before Sheryl Crow

  • @Vashtiana Are you fucking stupid fucking asshole...you think i didn't know this wasnt before Cheryl Crow, Forgive me man...i guess if i play a little cheryl and say, "A little Ricky Lee in there?" maybe you will jump right out of you're little boy pants and get fuckin' real. C'mon man, grow the fuck up pussy

  • @kennyscotten Keep up your crap and I wil slap your lips off so hard you will need a space ship in order to find them on the backside of Pluto!

  • @gaughank Okay, because Rikki came before Sheryl she is automatically better and sheryl crow couldn't possibly sound/look like her at all, you're right, i'm sorry. You weird fuckin' clown. Tellin' somebody you don't even know who said nothing offensiver to fuck off...what a jerk

  • cheryl crowe sucks and will go down in the record books as the first white woman to make music that was nauseating and made your skin crawl.

  • @The096757 okay

  • @Vashtiana and fuck you other 3 also...4 people there who don't know how to appreciate other music people any better than they do be aware of there own selfish, childish, ignorance, get fucking bent you pussy's

  • @kennyscotten

    Oh take a chill pill

  • @Vashtiana you act like i didn't realize that Sheryl Crow was after this and told me to fuck off. As if two singers can't have a similar vibe because one was before the other. Or because she was first that makes her way better, in closing, 4get you jerk
