  • i just downloaded it on rigs of rods

  • @104trucker so did I! great truck ist it?

  • @104trucker it doesnt have sound on my download so if u can send me ur link

  • nice truck mate also great

  • WHere's the SSPicer? Is it a second aka brownie or a solenoid/hydralic switch like the main stick'ers? All anyone apparently can see's the Eaton main. Still excellent truck, and with those Australian train type trucks, 10 to 18 trailers, it's expected, esp.over the mountians and with a truck that old...

  • @SteveCarras I think the lever for the Joey/Aux box is down low beside the seats!

  • Out of all the lorries in and around the mount, this would have to be one of my favorites, Baker used to have a nice blue W model until it got written off in geelong, and no it wasn't me driving it

  • I agree with mrpowertorque- That is an absolutely beautiful truck with an awesome growl

  • How does a 12v71 compare to a Big Cam 400

  • @nokiaicon would compare better to a KTA19 the big cam cant hold a candle to this thing in power

  • beautiful truck, but you drive it like a old w___n

  • @ticker511

Why be rough with a classic rig just to wreck it?

  • good lookin truck but steering wheel is on the wrong side

  • @kelsiej95

Steering wheel is on the correct side for our country. :p

  • Old Jimmy at work - gotta love the sound of this incredible machinery... i have a 6V53 at home for just pure entertainment... It is "towed" to start dy a 1 cyl. Ducati Diesel :D Just love the setup :D 1 cyl. 4 stroke pulling a 6 cyl. 2-stroke to life... I love it. I must say that this truck is very pretty to look at, guess you are an enthusiast :) Greetings from Denmark...

  • beautiful truck mannn I'm about to build me a 1/14th scale model of your truck bro, it looks fantastic

  • right mate! good on ya old classy and still doe's its work! reminds me of the early unit i drove.

  • UGGGH! Right-hand drive Euro truck. I wouldn't even be able to drive it......at least not on the correct side of the road.............and FORGET SHIFTING the darned thing!

  • @JustJeepin666 It WAS daimlerchrysler. it isnt daimlerchrysler anymore because Benz sold off Chrysler a couple years ago

  • a beauty

  • gota love the V instead of the ii but its okay :P

  • Kenworth with a pair of spider style hubcaps to give it a bit of style and a cool lookin' paint job with clean chrome=awesome truck!

  • @Fireheart528 They are Dayton wheels. :)

  • @MisterFlaherty Given its an aussie truck, they are called Spider Wheels out here.

  • what sort of horsepower- where is the video from vic,sa?

  • @72klinger These are usually 475 hp, but who knows if it has better injectors or not

  • what sort of horsepower- where is the video from vic,sa?

  • Great truck! Makes me wish I still drove rigs.

  • Wrong side of the road AGAIN.. SUCKS

  • its like this kenworths are the lincoln town car of trucks and the peterbuilts are like the cadillacs

  • Awesome truck

  • is this Australia?

  • OMG you're on the wrong side of the road.........:)

  • My first time seeing a right hand steer tractor and seeing it at work

  • you have to slam your hand in the door and get mad to drive a screaming detroit. Got ta drive em like your pissed off.

  • Wow, what a beautiful rig! Great to see these time machines still out on the road today

  • Common rev it !

  • Gotta put them detroits to floor

  • I've always been told that when driving a detroit, the first thing you have to do it slam your finger in the door of the truck so that way your nice and pissed off because thats how you're supposed to drive them, and they'll last forever that way.

  • thats definitely one of the nicest trucks ive seen

  • Those old 2 stroke Detroits are made to REV UP,, you need to keep her screaming to get the power! don't be afraid of rev ving a Detroit, Thats the way their made

  • 0:47

  • big brute beaut.

  • When you are cruising, Detriot Diesels love to be at 1500 rpm.. BUT when you are working, pulling hills, keep the 2 cycle Detriot in the 1700-2000 rpm range.... no sweat all day long .. ask old school trucker about that, they will concur with me..

  • all other trucks are for little girls!

  • nice truck

  • I love the sound of 12v71! My favorite detroit sound out of all of them!

  • @Hotrodx199 Yup, true V12 fireing order rocks! there is a sweet 3/53 dyno on here that sounds amazing though

  • Right about 3:14 i would of downshifted.

  • @Hotrodx199 Yup, keep em rapped up, marine 12v's run 2,000RPM day in day out and sound awesome. WIsh I could find a sweet detroit like this

  • Great vid!! Love the sound of a 12V-71 Detroit Diesel!!

BTW- On the title slide for this vid it says "12V79" not 12V-71.

  • @Xx69roadrunnerxX I just noticed that hahaha.

  • Love that bearing whine at about 4:58... please put another video on of this thing when you have a driver that knows how to drive it. Lugging a Detroit 2 stroke is the worst thing you can do, and consumes a lot of lube oil...

  • Has Australia own truck manufacturers or do you drive imports only?

  • @DaBoogie049 KW BUILD TRUCKS IN AUSTRALIA THIER THE BIG SELLERS NOT TO MANY PETES HERE

  • @TheFcmad you do realize kenworth and peterbilt are both made by the same company, paccar

  • @shaunlkeightley no they are OWNED by the same company not made freightliner is owned by chrysler but they arent made by them

  • @CrackinVTEC666 freightliner is owned by Daimler Benz who owned chrysler for a short time

  • its a log truck its made report

  • Very nice Kenworth:)

    Awesome sounding 12 V 71 too

    Check out our 1974 A Model with a 12 v 71

  • 800 hp?

  • to mstruckerboy: you can kiss my as !!!

  • What a beauty! :-D

  • @floddy3831 You are an ignorant fool produced by socialistic propaganda. You think sitting above the axle in a cramped plastic truck is comfortable? You must be out of your mind. And what has 2010 to do with this classic fine machinery and the heavenly song of a 12V71 Detroit?

  • So freaking weird for a Yanqui like me to see this.... man trippy

  • Unlike the modern stuff the Detroits have soul, your double clutching skills are to be commended!!

  • Ya deaf back there?? haha Classic. Thanks for the top notch video - us youngings can only dream of driving one of those beasts!

  • @floddy3831 Dont be silly!!

  • @floddy3831 You are from Sweden....sooo, no bias there then!!

  • @floddy3831 Why buy plastic?

  • @floddy3831 This trucks is just as good as a 1969 Scania or Volvo! You don't seem to have a clue about what this is all about. It's about the history behind the trucks!

  • love the truck mate, well done

  • absolutely beautifully restored chap, let me guess somewhere in tassie. sure dont make them like that anymore, the v12 detroit sure has a magical note doesnt it, although if it was me i would have dropped a 3408 v8 cat in it and put a voith retarder behind it you would be the king of the hills...ha ha unreal truck hope to see it at a truckshow up this way in the future....

  • @ipdaily6 Mount Gambier, South Australia!

  • that is one sexy truck bro

  • and she don't look a day over 20 ;D

  • that is the sweetest truck ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome looking truck and that 12v71 makes some beautiful music....:)

  • This truck is featured in June Truckin life Magazine.

  • Bit rough on the gears mate.

  • is it Turbo charged?? 2 or 4 stroke? and how much Horse power has a 12v-71???

:P i LLLOOOVVVEE that screaming sound!!

im Ger so i dont know any about american trucks :P ^^ pls answer! ^^

  • @unclewilly2 idk if its supercharged but this engine is 2-stroke(71 series is twostroke)

  • Australia?

  • Hey the steering wheel is on the wrong side!.....lol

  • @Thesupersmith79 Uhh, its in Australia.

  • There is a rule with these. Slam your hand in the door or kick the tire before starting, and then never drive below 1900 rpms. Actually if you turn like a 8v71N (318 detroit) to 2600 rpms, they will actually run and last better because they like the high rpms, and it doesn't hurt anything.

  • Is your 13 speed a double overdrive 1213?

  • I found a Kenworth with a 12v71TT on craigslist for $9800 i believe. I. WANT. THAT!

  • @Hotrodx199 hah! I could afford that!

  • Detroits have the true Jake Brakes love that sound .

  • nice truck

  • how many forward gears she got?

  • man find me one of those ole screamers lol raise some hell

  • 当時の純正カラースキームに準じた塗装がいいねぇ。。。

    萌え☆

  • This truck is the fucking beast

I love the jakes and im proud to drive an old beast than the new ones :)

  • man i would love to have an old truck that the drivers side was the right side

  • Nice rig

  • That's the rig they used in Maximum Overdrive.

Remember the Goblin Circus truck? I swear I see images of Maximum Overdrive when I see this rig.

  • Yeah it looks like this but they used a White Westernstar...

  • Beautiful truck

  • SWEET !

  • I miss my 892

  • Uhh, because Aussies drive on the other side of the road. They wonder why we drive on the wrong side of the road too you know.

  • @AriRezaku

    Leave the profanity off.

  • @744boy Who gives a shit about a little profanity? Loosen up a bit.

  • Check this one on youtube,,,

    1974 Kenworth 12 V 71 Haulin Logs in Oregon 2008

    Now thats music ;)

  • ok I know I have said it before,I have driven 8v92's etc,Damn can you give us an update with it on song,Hearing a two stroke lug/choke like that is kill'n me ;)

  • Love the overdrive whine.

  • That is so damn cool! LOVE to hear the sound of classic equipment like that really working. Thanks for the ride-along!

  • I drove a W-Model for a little while and in between trips, we used to play tennis on the bonnet....LOL

  • nice truck and great sounding engine

  • REV the god damn motor up!!!!!! Put another video on here where you bring it up to 2100 rpm ! That Screamin Jimmy wants to roar and you are neutering it... Ahhh!!!!!!

  • @MetalTeamster Agreed. If it's under motion keep it on the governor!

  • @MetalTeamster I agree wit ya man my uncle drive his GMC Astro like this but it has an 8v-71. He dont like it when i drop the clutch an lay it to the floor like it should be.

  • @MetalTeamster I like when it pulls heavy loads, revving isn't very healthy for those old engines, though. :-)

  • @mstruckerboy Not true, Two Cycle Detroit Diesel engines make all their power between 1600-2100 rpm. Lugging them causes them to consume a lot of lube oil.

  • @MetalTeamster It's not that healthy to revv it hard for a long time though. That's the same with every engine, I think.. It's made to pull heavy loads anyway, it's much cooler to hear an engine that's really working, not empty trucks revving to the limiter.

  • @MetalTeamster what you see is real life driving in Australia,,, loaded to 63 tons,,,and FUCK ME,,, we have HILLS here down under,,,

  • buzzin dozen!

  • nices sound in the world

  • Perfect....

  • OOOOHHHHH The dirty dozen!!! that is damn sharp !! Thanks for posting

  • man nice truck! she sounds nice!!!

  • mate, that is the most beautiful sound i have heard in KW in a long time, very nice truck, i seen it in a copy of owner driver and good to hear it on the net too, you have done awesome job restoring it , great driving, love the jake .

an old truckin company down home use to 12v71's in there peterbilt's but i was only young and they sold them all off before i was old enough to drive them.

thank you for posting it on here to show all us young bloke's what the real trucks look n sound like.

  • Did/do these old donks have turbo/s? How much Hp and torque do they make?

  • This truck's one doesn't have a turbo - she's a plain Jane naturally aspirated Detroit 12V71N - this one puts out 435hp! But I will find out what the turbo'd 12V71 puts out for ya!

  • Bloody good stuff! Cheers!

  • 12V71T puts out 525hp with N75 injectors!

  • @huppypuppy

    435 hp at what rpm.

  • Not a lot of 2 stroke Detroits around now. Bit too heavy on fuel and emissions compared to the current range of high HP 4 stroke engines around now. Still can,t beat the sound made by a "Jimmy" working hard.

  • we used to have a v8 and a v6 diesel detroit engine in out old school buses, sounded awesome

  • você deve acelerar mais o motor , anda com baixa rotação, o detroit tem q andar em alta, você deixa morrer muito o motor na subida para fazer a troca de marcha.

  • 'ey need some of these on the hungarian roads!

  • nice looking truck and great sound!

  • it may be on the wrong side, buthow many of us here in the staes would lve to pull across the scale and see the confused look on the DOT's faces?

  • But the darned staring wheel is on the wrong side!

  • Very nice truck my little boy takes after his dad, loves the sound of that Detroit

  • Nice old truck

  • The jakes sound like they're releasing the compression twice as fast. Still sounds good :)

  • least with the big jimmy up the front you wouldnt have had to put up with that horrible whine that always came out of those old 13 speeds :)

  • nice video

    trucks sounds nice

do have any recordings of things like its revving

  • good god that is one mean ass machine .ahh could i drive it ,i,ll never ask for anything agian

  • I know a guy that hauls logs in a 74 w900a that has a 12v71. It would be cool but i don't know how he can pay for fuel.

  • G'day there young Kerby, man your going to be a wealth of info with a few more years under your belt. That old man of yours is lucky to have you so interested in those old trucks. That KW still has the SFDD Timkens in it, but we changed the gears to 5.2 ( the quickest available )now we have double over , 94km/hr at 2100rpm.Still slow for today but i'm not in any hurry. We have mufflers, but there's nothing in them.

  • Detroits sound good with or without mufflers.

  • Great truck!

  • What do you have for rear end ratios? A friend of ours has a 75 pete that has 5:29s, 12513 fuller, and a buzzen dozen v12 and redlining at 2200 it goes about 55 mph which is around 88 kph. I got a video of it, check it out if you want.

  • Beautiful truck my friend. That's a nice sounding jimmy diesel. Love the fuller whine.

  • Nice restore,,Letting it lug like a 60 series though ;) I am aware that you are running it in ;),,Would be nice for the punters to hear it in full song,Took a transtar for a drive over here"NZ" some years back 8v92, 445 hp in the days when the 400hp big cam cummins was big news,They where totally the opposite to drive, the cummins happy to pull down to 1200rpm,In contrast the 8v92 went well if you drove it like you stole it,Feul economy and emissions killed the two stroke,,:(

  • I wasnt aware that a 60 series will lug? Joking mate. A mate of mine has an 8V92T in an 84 star. She sounds the goods.

  • theres the jake brake

  • Nice sound, but Jimmys obviously lack torque.

  • Please put another one on youtube where you run that tach up to 2000-2100 rpm before you shift, and downshift at 1500 so we can really hear the "BUZZIN DOZEN" !

  • is this truck for sale

  • No it's not, unfortunately!

What a truck though - Murray has poured thousands of dollars into this restoration so the old girl will not be for sale!

  • Great Sounding, Beautiful Looking, Clean Running Rig!

  • nice colours..

  • very nice

  • never heard of an inline 92, nor have I seen a 92 series 12v.. pretty sure neither one was produced.

  • There was a 12V92 engine produced, if you have seen it, it sorta looks like two 6V92s bolted together. Similar to 16V92 (two 8V-92's in series). I dont think theese models were very popular in truck use, but more as generators or boat engines. Never heard of inline 92 series though.
