It would be understandable if he was freaking out for a valid reason, but the reason he went off at the guy on set was because he walked on set. One time.

It wasn't one time, he had done it a few times, apparently, not just walking on set, but causing inadvertant distractions OFF set. That aside, Bale is notorious for being extremely into his characters, and this was done in the middle of a very emotional scene for his character. Hence: Meltdown.
