  • Emily Watson's character was my favorite here. :)

  • I thought this movie was lovely and quite entertaining. How can you not like movie staring Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Helen Mirren and Stephen Fry?

  • Possibly the most deceiving trailer ever.

  • Tried to watch it 2 times. Never saw it through though. Not that good tbh.

  • Did people actually think this was pretty slow and boring?! I'm a 16 year old guy and I actually found it quite straightforward and entertaining. I don't know, it's probably because I've seen tons of movies...

  • lol ryan phillipe was there

  • And, I need to add, I think Kristen Scott Thomas was excellent in her bourgeoisie. As was the nerdy gay dude who knew where his bread was buttered. This is an excellent film for anyone who is interested in how people tick.

  • I liked the honesty of their attitude with the old fart's murder. No one cared, except the one who truly found love in him. That's the truth of life.

Somehow, even the shittiest Assholes have at least one person or animal who will miss them....

    A lesson in living.

  • LAME trailer

  • This movie isn't about the rich people. It's about the servants, and it's very depressing. They live horrible lives. That's what I got from this movie.

  • Seems fun, it was inspired by the movie "Clue"

  • It amazes me not more actors/actresses from this film won awards. To me they were all absolutely fantastic!!!

  • I've always been angered by this trailer because it is so intentionally misleading. This turned out to be one of my all time favorite movies but it took me 6+ years to watch it because the trailer made it seem like some "Clue" type fast paced dramedy. When in reality it's slow paced but thoroughly intriguing from start to finish.

  • 1:29 I love that pipe...

  • @SomeBlokeLol Gee, thanks for the nice compliment.

  • The U.S butchers the representation of films through their lame trailers. They've missed the mark on the whole tone of this film.

  • Seems like a very uppity, stuffy film that I would never watch.

  • Maggie Smith IS legendary!

  • Love this movie...reminds me of my Grandmothers era....."Oh! How horrid!"

  • Brilliant film!

  • perhaps the best film of Robert Altmans later career. It features an all star ensemble cast which had been a trademark of Altmans work since MASH ... i found it streaming online at

    EasyMediaClick (dot) com

  • What a horrible trailer for such an incredible film.

  • "Who does it in the end?"

"I couldn't tell you that, it would ruin it for you."

"Oh, none of us will watch it."

    haha Maggie Smith is legendary

  • Lots of good actors in this movie, worth a watch you will not be dissapointed.

  • ***What is the name of the song playing at the beginning?***

  • I will have to stick this in my queue.

  • look at the frigging stars in this film!

  • this is a great movie

  • Jeeves! Remember his show? He is so cool!

  • definitely a weak trailer. the real film is much better.

  • Its a shame about the trailer - it doesn't do this film justice. The film is brilliant - the dialogue is realistic, and the cast are wonderful - they get their characters across even if they have barely any lines. A great film.

  • I agree, it makes Gosford Park look like some comedy.

  • Yes I agree, although for me, Stephen Fry ALMOST did that on his own, anyway! I thought he was so terribly miscast in this, and nearly - but not quite - ruined this great film. His 'performance' would have suited something more like an old Ealing style comedy, fine, but definitely not this. Apart from that, it must surely be one of those very rare situations where having so many very talented, big name performers doesn't ruin the end product. Anyone else agree, especially re. S.Fry's role?!

  • APRIL: Fry is one of two things that I think kept this film from being perfect and this is coming from somone who generally loves Fry's work. :)

But yes I agree, it's amazing how many actors there were and yet still managed to be a finely balanced work.

  • Thanks for replying. I do respect S.Fry's intelligence, and recognise that he's a very popular performer. I wonder, if he sees himself 'evolving' into a kind of Peter Ustinov or Kenneth Williams raconteur type. Perhaps. I wouldn't put him in their league, myself. Still, I have to say, I thought his turn on 'Who Do You Think You Are?', one of the best yet. Very moving. He certainly seems a very genuine type too. Oh, and what was the other thing that for you, kept this film from being perfect?

  • A few suggestions for: 'the other thing that (might have) for you (and me!) kept this film from being perfect'! How about Meredeth getting hot MILK down his front?! Or perhaps Cook failing to slip that dreadful american, Weissman, some minced grouse (feathers 'n' all!)? What about Mary missing a wonderful opportunity to strangle the awful Constance, with that damn shirt she'd so carefully washed and dryed?! But then 'after all, what purpose could it possibly serve?'! Well, we'd have enjoyed it?!

  • APRIL: There is a scene between a maid and the Commander, the 'Jam scene' if you remember. ;) It goes along alright, but then it sort of became a bit cheezy near the end of the scene.

  • NGS712 - Yes, quite outrageous! Hope the jam wasn't of the 'bought' type! That would have been so ' VERY feeble'! Just SUPERB dialogue all round, eh? Well, next stop for me, 'A Room With A View'. More SUPERB dialogue! I simply must dash now, I have an appointment with a 'hot glass of milk' - and her ladyship does have her 'needs', you know! Toodle pip!

P.s. Re. the milk reference in my previous comment, of course I meant Denton, not that insufferable, little American, Meredith, although....!

  • This movie is about the social compact in England at the time with the people agreeing that there would be one group of people who own everything and the rest of the people serving them. The movie is set at the point when this was breaking down as both groups became self aware.

  • It's a wonderful film. I got a summer job this, obviously, summer, as a waiter. It's remarkable how the servants have to be diligent, agree on teamwork and develop discipline. I'm enjoying the experience. I love the scene when Helen Mirren and the cook stop on a sudden to listen to the guest's special diet. That's diligence. Whoa Altman!

  • This trailer makes the movie out to be a comical murder mystery with a lot of stars, but its actually a very slow-moving, realistic and witty period 30's murder movie, like a dark Agatha Christie, with an excellent plot and even more extraordinary acting. It's definitely worth the watch. And with Steven Fry as the man who can't pronounce his own name! haha! Brilliant movie.

  • You're right. Completely mis-sells the film - sometimes a trailer makes a film seem better than it is, but this one makes this film seem worse!

    Never trust a trailer!

  • @viridismonasteriense

I totally agree. It is a BS trailer. I seldom see movies because of trailers, because they are so misleading. Friend told me about this one.

A great study in class structure and dehumanization on both levels.

basically, a lesson on "everyone's out to get their own"

the trailer did nothing to show this.

excellent movie and actors. Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren override all other characters, and there are many of good standing and production.

    excellent film!

  • @mae12561 Yes. Excellent film with great performances and the trailer makes it seem like something it really isn't. Some kind of goofy comedy. Although Stephen Fy's detective can be very misleading there.

  • Is this one of those murder mistery party movies?

  • shame about the american guy doing the voiceover, ruined a great trailer!

  • Maggie Smith was just bubbling with priceless lines

  • Wasn't she though?! I just love her! (Helen, too, of coarse) :)

  • OMG Helen Mirren is devine!!

  • mcgonagall and dumbledore???

    jajajaja!!!

  • This is a great who done it. I always thought it would be fun to have a dinner party and show this movie til the hearse comes up the driveway. Then pause the movie and see if any of your guest can guess who did it. There is one visual clue that gives it away. you have to really pay attention.

  • Does anyone know what first music track is called?

  • they're all wonderfull, but i think Stephen Fry is the best. What a fool.

  • Yes on bittorrent.

I've just watched it and it's well worth it.

Great casting and period detail down to a tee.

  • Reminds me of the game Clue.

  • amazing movie!!

  • One of my favorite movies ever. im not usually into these types of movies(im 15 so i think that says something) it was just great with the directing, acting and the script.

  • wonderful! I'm gonna love it!

  • does anyone know if the full version of this movie is uploaded anywhere online????

  • Comment removed

  • Maggie is the best - I love her role in this movie!

  • Ms Miggie Smith and Ms Helen Mirren, together with Ms Judi Dench, to be honest, are the Best British actresses ever!

  • i know

  • Film bellissimo grande maggie smith!

  • maggie smith rocked in this movie, alot. and whoever chose the cast rocked too

  • I couldnt agree more!!!!

  • me too

  • It´s magnificent, or shall I say Maggieficent (ms. Smith is marvelous)! She should have won the Academy award for her supporting role...

  • Gorgeous film! I absolutely adore Altman!

  • really love that.

  • Do you think Helen Mirren should have won the Oscar for this?

  • Oh, a thousand times yes. She was wonderful. I cannot express how much I love this film. I was thoroughly confused about the who's-who the first time I saw it since there are SO many characters, but I've watched it four times since then, and the experience, the feeling of the film just gets better every single time. I just can't get my head around how perfect this film is. Not a flaw. I can't imagine anyone but Helen portraying Mrs. Croft. :) Do you think she should have won it for this?

  • holy whoppers. for someone who says they love this film, i go and get helen's character's name wrong?! haha. someone must have spiked my drink. :) i meant, i can't imagine anyoe but Helen portraying Mrs. WILSON. shame on me.

  • Honestly, I have not seen Gosford Park, (but don't worry because i'm going to soon :)) but that year Helen Mirren won the SAG award, which shows that she was not to far from winning the Oscar, and that people recognized her. I haven't seen Jennifer Connelly's preformance but I heard it wasn't anything special. But when i see both "Gosford Park" and "A Beautiful Mind" i'll report back here. :)

  • hey :). oh, please do report back when you've seen both! but, hey, i have something to confess, too. i haven't seen a beautiful mind in it's entirety. my psych teacher had it on once at the end of the school term, but i was probably socializing, so i, too, have to see that one. but, yes, i'm SO excited for you to see Gosford Park! i get so excited when people who haven't seen it yet are about to pick it up because you're in for something so wonderful. i hope you love it! let me know!

  • i thought jennifer connelly was good in a beautiful mind, i think her performance compared to helen's is about the same, maybe helens is a little better. im glad jennifer won though, now they each have an oscar...and how did she not get nominated for house of sand and fog?

  • Im gonna see it now. This film must really be soemthing

  • Excellent movie.

  • Completely agreed.
