This bike park now has digital boards which tells cyclist how many places there are free in certain sections the bike parking. Quite usefull, although I still wonder how precise it actually is. I park my by bike in this park once in the two weeks, for at least 2 days. It's an awesome thing.

I'm living in the city of Enschede and the municipality just built a new cycle parking (2 stories high) and it was way too small. Within 2 weeks it was entirely filled with orphan bikes.

Mr Hembrow - you make me want to post all my videos I take in Netherlands because they are all on bicycle. I miss Gronigen so much because of the intelligent approach to transportation with the bicycle....and the human resourse. It's the people of Groningen that make it special because they using bicycle. Often I think of immigrating to The Netherlands, claiming refuge from automobile poisoning here in America. I use my bicycle as primary transportation. Thank you for posting

@mariojragucci2 Hi Mario. I've enjoyed your videos very much - especially those around Groningen where you seem to be riding amazed at the number of other cyclists. I featured it on my blog. We did immigrate. We're British and the attraction of life here was just too much to stay where we were born. BTW, this cycle park is now considered to be too small. There are plans to expand it by a thousand or so bikes...

totoroben, you obviously have never been to Groningen, or any place in Holland. Most of these bikes you see are extensively used, all day through, 7 days a week, from home to work, shopping, going to the restaurant or pub or cinema, bringing the kids to kindergarten, transport stuff, etcetera etcetera. How could we possibly share our bikes?!

I cant help but wonder how much more efficient it would be if people in this city adopted a more comprehensive bike share. Maybe then one bike would be able to make the trips of 10 individual bikes, thus reducing the need to park 6000 bikes down to 600.

There is no place on earth where bike share schemes account for more than a couple of percent of total journeys in a city. In Groningen, personal bikes account for nearly 60% of all journeys.

In any case, in addition to this cycle parking there are hundreds of hire bikes at the station, including a bike share scheme called OV-Fiets which is at most railway stations as well as other locations across the country.
