  • Such a great era in country music! Not a big country music guy(especially with today's music) But this is great!!

  • hmmmm

  • I'd only heard the Ronnie Milsap version of this .... but I guess the original is best LOL

  • Hank Williams was the original, however Charlie Pride and Hank Williams Jr both sang it again because they wanted to make their father proud :)

  • Originally sung by Hank Williams.

  • i never knew he sang this who orginail did it

  • There's good reason to have pride in Charlie! Thanks for posting!

  • actually, he is the 1st black country singer on record plus he is fantastic, no matter what color he is

  • @86Disel Actually, although, he was the most successful ever...he was not the first black country singer on record. That honor would go, I think, to Deford Bailey who performed on The Grand Ol' Opry stage from 1926 thru 1941 and was one of country musics first recording artists. There were a number more....Herb Jeffries (1st and only movie singing cowboy & recording artist, Ivory Joe Hunter, Linda Martell, plus others. The idea that "people of color"didn't care/ perform CM is untrue.

  • actually, he is the 1st black country singer on record

  • thank you

  • One dislike?WHAT? This is a great song.

  • @Isotec1 one dislike? why? it s the only black man in country. he must have been racist

  • @chickenrich86 actually he is not the only black country music singer. He is the most successful. You also have Neal McCoy and Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker. Both doing well but Charley is the most successful. There are other black country music singers but Charley is the most successful of all time.By the way,a movie is being made about Charley, the wrestlet The Rock is playing him and making the movie, fans want to see the story about how he made it in country music.

  • I f Charlie sees this Bobbie Warren son just died call 8178052529

  • great song

  • I grew up listening to Charlie Pride & the rest of the other county greats with my mama while my brothers & sister were at school. That was when country was really country !!!

  • You know I heard is moma was hank williams maid & there was a rumor that hank could have been his dad.

  • @scrambler250r You heard no such thing. You just wanted to add some ignorance to this thread. Take it elsewhere.

  • @namvet12 I did so, I heard it from my grandmother. I didn't say it was true. You sound ignorant calling this a thread, comments on youtube is not a forum.

  • @scrambler250r Any string of comments is called a thread, Jackass.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar Touche

  • What a magnificient voice. Like no other on this song.

  • Been listening to this awesome man most all of my life and have yet to tire of him. In my opinion there is NO ONE who can sing Kaw-Liga as good as or any better than Charley!

  • My compliments to his record label for giving him great songs to sing and the musicians and backup singers.

  • Thanks for posting this. Mr Charley Pride helped me endure my duty tour in Viet Nam! His music was part of the daily life and loved by all !! I wish he knew how much his music helped people keep a level head and survive. The debate about color has never been significant. We all have the same color of blood. Its all about heart ! This man can sing and has endured what most can not imagine.

  • Charlie was the first and still the best black country singer. Is there really anyone these days?

  • I'll never forget the look on my Grandpa's face when he first saw Charlie on Television, hilarious ! And , NO he wasnt a racist, just didnt know Charlie was Black, lol

  • @aircraftbuilder Charley and his wife are celebrating 55 years of marriage this year. The wrestler The Rock is playing him in a biopic.

  • @Isotec1 the Rock? for real? well hope it turns out better than Walking tall did.

  • An African American country singer in the 60's, nothing more to be said I think. One of my favorites songs for the time.

  • Okay,I must confess,I am addicted to this song.

  • I have one thing to say about this song and how great it is.W-O-W!

  • This song is sang best by charlie pride love it

  • @canadaraylong Not even close to Hank Sr.

  • this is one of the best songs ever.

  • this was my dads favorite song and as a child 8,9 yrs old i fell in love with it to. now my wonderful dad who is no longer with us, i am an a adult now i long to hear this over & over. and use this as part of a memory dedication in honor of the best DAD ever.

  • charlie is a good singer i like this song however i like hank williams sr. u cant beat the original dont get me wrong i think he does a good cover much better than what hanks own son can do

  • None of this shit impresses me. So much of this stuff is the same. Same old twangy background music along with the same old vocals. I can appreciate that he overcame race in such tough times to be successful, but the music is just as dull s the white country singers of that time.

  • @rocknblues81 If u don't like country music then u shouldn't have watched this country video and listened to this country song then. Simple as that

  • my cousin could play this on the banjo and guitar, I was 9 or 10, my cousin and charlie were heroes

  • i bet charly is part indian.

I have met a lot of ful blood indians that look like straight up black people back in VA

  • @o56kid No ... LOL! they are liars! Injun look injun, beaner or rag-head and even some look chink-- mongoliod race.

  • This was my Pap's song!! He used to sing this all the time. I miss him very much...

  • @ThatWanderingHero so wondering then, why did you waste time to comment and/or listen to this? thats silly.

  • I think he has the BEST version

  • @imaStonesFan oh yeah he does XD

  • Sat here and listened to this song with some friends,....sure brought back some memories!

  • how the hell can you not like this song???? Seriously....this is a great ol' song. Keep up the good work

  • omg this iz a heck of a great song it reminds me of my mom and dad back in the day when this world wasnt so evil great song and memories rip mom

  • my wife heard this song and Aunt Donna came and visited us...Maybe Joyce too

  • My mom claims when I was 5 years old, I would ask her to play this song over and over. One of my fondest memories was waiting for my dad to come back from driving a truck and listening to this song. I had no clue what it was saying because I was so young, but I totally loved it. <3

  • @AnnaLovesAdamLambert i was the same way minus the waiting for my dad thing....i had to ask my mom who sang it because i couldn't remember for the life of me who sang it

  • My dad and I use to sing this all the time when we were out hunting.

  • Me and my Grandpa always sing this the song while driving in the field. Heh,good times.

  • When I was stationed in Norfolk with the Navy back in 1896-87,there was a bar on Military Highway called the Green Wheel that had an Indian by the door we called Kaw-liga. New patrons had to kiss him of they'd buy a round for the house. Georgia Dave the DJ enforced that rule but gave the women the option of kissing HIM instead.

  • @doughesson so ur about 140 yrs old i guess

  • @butler22070 Naw,I meant to type in 1986 instead.Daggum terminal kesy put themselves in the wrong places.
