They are people, not some science experiment. I feel no sympathy for a woman who has an abortion! What I disagree with is abortions (specifically in the U.S) where you can abort babies later on in pregnancy, well into the second trimester. Here in Canada, you can't get one that late unless you go to the U.S and pay for it there.

The child inside of a woman is dependent on her for 9 months so he/she can survive to the point of birth, it's not just about her body anymore at that point. I stated that though a terrible thing to have been raped, it's also not the child's fault he/she was conceived in such a way. She should have enough respect for life to carry the child to term

There are people out there who cannot have a child and would be willing to adopt, and care for a child despite the circumstances in which he or she was conceived. And I have every right to judge whether something is morally wrong or not, and the killing of a defenseless person inside the womb is a moral injustice that should be outlawed.

However, I do not feel that because a terrible thing happened to her, she is then justified in murdering her unborn child. The child should have a chance to live just like all the rest of us. Would you seriously rather your mother had an abortion and flushed you out of the womb? But let's be honest here, most abortions aren't even performed on women who conceived during rape. I can empathize with rape victims and people who become accidentally pregnant, but those people's situation still does not justify murder by any means. I believe if we are going to allow people to be killed in that early stage of life, then to avoid being hypocrites, we should remove laws against the taking of a person's life at any stage. Even in cases of rape, as horrible as it may be there is still the option of adoption. Why would this woman wait until she was 22 weeks old to get an abortion. She had 2 choices knowing that she was that far along. A) carry the child to term then give it up for adoption or take it to a baby safe haven (any firestation will take a baby up to 3 days old no questions asked) or B) have an abortion knowing she was 22 weeks along and knowing the baby was more than half developed. I got pregnant when I was 16 years old, I knew I was not in a place where I could care for my child. I gave him up for adoption and though it was the hardest thing i've ever done in my life my child lives a wonderful life with a family that loves him dearly. There is NO reason to have an abortion when there are families everywhere who will love a child unconditionally. I have since had children and still do not regret my decision. I love my kids and feel my experience made me a better mother.

A 16 year old girl I know got pregnant and her boyfriend threatened to kill her family if she didn't have an abortion. Then the boyfriend's parents took the girl to the abortion clinic and the girl couldn't say no so she just went in and had the abortion. She was afraid to tell her mother, because her mother always told her if she ever got pregnant it would be ok to keep the baby. So she had the abortion and it was legal! If you ask me, I think it was murder!

This is so disturbing but not surprising. I've heard that many babies aborted after the 1st trimester are alive. They're killed, most often by cutting the cord and allowing them to bleed to death. Then what, are they disposed of in a plastic garbage bag?? With so many forms of birth control out there, how can we continue to justify such savage behaviour? She was holding his head above the water & didn't want to let him go, knowing time might be short. Given the enormous time it took to communicate with that dispatch operator at 911, it certainly appears that Baby Rowan's mommy made the right decision.

I, personally, am Pro-Choice. And although I personally would not choose this route, I firmly believe it is important that this right is protected. Mainly for incest victims, rape victims, women under age, and people financially struggling, it needs to be legal because it's not my right to pick and choose. HOWEVER, second and third trimester abortions are cruel and I believe at that point the fetus should be carried to term and adopted into a loving family. What happened there was wrong.

it's not better when that "safe treatment" causes the death of another. If she does it unsafely and ends up killing herself, that will have been her decision, and we didn't force her to do so. I never said the unborn has the right to life at the expense of another's LIFE--we're not dealing with that. I'm talking about cases where the woman's life is not in danger. But ok, fair enough. If we want to make the situations exactly alike, I'm more than willing to condone forced organ donation IF you caused the circumstances that led to the person needing the organ in the first place. (Which in case you don't realize, is the case with pregnancy)
And as to whether banning abortion will "help" that depends on your definition of "help." If you mean will it prevent all abortions, of course it won't. But that's not the standard by which we operate. No ban on anything prevents the practice completely. Surgeries get botched all the time. No doctor or procedure is 100% fool-proof. So its just natural that things like this would happen occasionally at an abortion clinic

I'm VERY pro choice.
I think there are reasons why an abortion may be the best option.
Same as how adoption or parenthood are options.
Also saying that, I'm a young "Teen Mom", I was pregnant with my daughter when I was 17, had her at 18 & I chose parenthood.
What I disagree with is abortions (specifically in the U.S) where you can abort babies later on in pregnancy, well into the second trimester. Here in Canada, you can't get one that late unless you go to the U.S and pay for it there.

Even in cases of rape, as horrible as it may be there is still the option of adoption. It's not the woman's fault she was raped, but it's also not the child's fault he/she was conceived under those circumstances. I don't believe there is ever a reason to deprive a person of their God given right to life. If we are to pass laws against murder, they should apply to the unborn as well, they are no less human just because of the stage of life they are in.

Why would this woman wait until she was 22 weeks old to get an abortion. She had 2 choices knowing that she was that far along. A) carry the child to term then give it up for adoption or take it to a baby safe haven (any firestation will take a baby up to 3 days old no questions asked) or B) have an abortion knowing she was 22 weeks along and knowing the baby was more than half developed. I got pregnant when I was 16 years old, I knew I was not in a place where I could care for my child. I gave him up for adoption and though it was the hardest thing i've ever done in my life my child lives a wonderful life with a family that loves him dearly. There is NO reason to have an abortion when there are families everywhere who will love a child unconditionally. I have since had children and still do not regret my decision. I love my kids and feel my experience made me a better mother.

Seems to me like half the girls here defending abortion are those that have already had one and are looking for support and some kind of resolve but there isnt one. A 16 year old girl I know got pregnant and her boyfriend threatened to kill her family if she didn't have an abortion. Then the boyfriend's parents took the girl to the abortion clinic and the girl couldn't say no so she just went in and had the abortion. She was afraid to tell her mother, because her mother always told her if she ever got pregnant it would be ok to keep the baby. So she had the abortion and it was legal! If you ask me, I think it was murder!

This is so disturbing but not surprising. I've heard that many babies aborted after the 1st trimester are alive. They're killed, most often by cutting the cord and allowing them to bleed to death. Then what, are they disposed of in a plastic garbage bag?? With so many forms of birth control out there, how can we continue to justify such savage behaviour? I think supporters of abortion should have to participate in one! Perhaps holding a tiny body would be the jolt needed to find their humanity!

@brendaeileen Thank you for your good question, Brenda. Rowan's mother had to put her son down to make the call to her friend at the hotel. She was holding his head above the water & didn't want to let him go, knowing time might be short. Given the enormous time it took to communicate with that dispatch operator at 911, it certainly appears that Baby Rowan's mommy made the right decision.

I, personally, am Pro-Choice. And although I personally would not choose this route, I firmly believe it is important that this right is protected. Mainly for incest victims, rape victims, women under age, and people financially struggling, it needs to be legal because it's not my right to pick and choose. HOWEVER, second and third trimester abortions are cruel and I believe at that point the fetus should be carried to term and adopted into a loving family. What happened there was wrong.

Our decision had to do with protecting other lives, and if she makes a decision she didn't have to make because of that, that is not our problem. And as to whether banning abortion will "help" that depends on your definition of "help." If you mean will it prevent all abortions, of course it won't. But that's not the standard by which we operate. No ban on anything prevents the practice completely. But if by help you mean what I mean--that? it would at least prevent SOME abortions and even more importantly remove the blood from our society's hands from condoning the ones that already happen, then yes it will "help" a great deal.

If I were saying that the woman should have to give up her OWN life for the life of her unborn child, THEN I would be "valuing the blueprints" over the "actual person." But all I'm saying is that ANYONE'S right to life trumps anyone else's right to anything less fundamental than life. We euthanize animals because they do not make decisions for themselves, because they are lesser beings in our care. But human children are not lesser beings, and so the decision should be their's alone.Granted, many do suffer abuse, but does common sense truly show that it is better to make a murderer's job easier?

I was born with a gentic disorder that makes me getting pregnant life threatening not to mention passing the condition on to my child. I have had many surgerys and have more to come as I get older. With that mentioned I chose to have my tubes tied at 19 so my child, if I lived thru the pregnancy, would not have to go thru everything I have. If I still get pregnant then it was meant to happen and we will be saying lots of prayers!!

This is especially true for a handicapped infant. "thou shalt not kill" is just as much an imposition as being robbed at gunpoint. and if imposing our beliefs onto others is such a bad thing, why should we impose our beliefs onto an unborn child?Then I guess we shouldn't 'press' our 'beliefs' on the murderer or rapist....I WOULD NEVER MURDER OR RAPE, but it's not up to me to decide for others what they might want to do.....Right??? Pregnancy from rape & incest combined accounts for less then 0.1%. Lets talk about the millions of abortions that account for the remainder of pregnancies. That is the issue at hand. No child who's been created deserves to die for any reason whatsoever, except save the very life of the mother!! I was raped @ 16 years old. My son is a miracle to behold & loved by his 6 biological siblings & 12 adopted siblings. I recovered w/counseling, but I could never recover from killing my own child. Killing the baby would not make the rape nonexistent. It was through no actions of my son that he was created in this way. His genetic parent is in prison, My son lives and is adored by everyone lucky enough to know him. He is loving, funny, smart, generous and successful!

If you have sex willingly then you are saying your ready to have a baby because abstinence is the only 100% effective way not to get pregnant. And if your your raped, my sympathy goes out to you it is a hard thing to deal with but abortion is not the answer. It won't fix anything. Choose adoption for the baby not murder.

Couples have their child in secrecy and throw it in the trash. In china people find aborted fetuses in parks and forests all the time. You can look up the countless photos if you dont believe me. Banning abortion is wrong, because you give power and money to criminals and create a demand for illegal-abortions.

99% had no birth defects
99% posed no risk of death? to mother
99% involved no medical emergency
According to the LA Times, Tiller made $6000 for each late term (22+weeks old) abortion
1928 x $6000 = $11,568,000 for 5 yrs (04--08)
& that does not include the $ from the 1000s of his early term abortions

@Msjanedoe124 The permission for the baby to use the woman’s uterus is granted by the decision of the woman to have sex. As mammals and as human beings, the act of sex is designed to create new life. This is not to say that sex was meant to be used always as a means of procreation, but the possibility of creating a new life IS there every time we have sex.

Surgeries get botched all the time. No doctor or procedure is 100% fool-proof. So its just natural that things like this would happen occasionally at an abortion clinic
They should be prepared for things like this, and they should let the would-be 'mothers' know that its a slim chance (but possible!) that something like this could happen, especially if they are past the 1st trimester
WOMEN SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE THE CHOICE!!! ALWAYS!!

What did the mother do, or not do to cause this child to need her womb? Did the child have any way of avoiding his/her circumstances? Did the child force him/herself upon the mother? The mother CAUSED the child to need her, she 'CHOSE' , now once she helps to create the child, she has no right to kill
