Beautiful man... restores my faith in mankind. Emerson said: "What you do stands above you and shouts so loudly I can't hear what you're saying." I hear you Eustace.
He still never says how the hell he got all that money to do all the stuff he has done, I believe he was a rich kid who had the leisure to pursue his lifestyle choice it takes a hell of alot of money to toto collage and take all those trips.
@mythic89 schools and other festivals paid him to come talk about his unique lifestyle...starting when he was as young as a highschooler (because he was a baller back then too) that's how he's made money. No his parents did not fund endless pointless wandering....believe it or not they weren't cool with it at all - as most parents wouldn't be
Just read Elizabeth Gilberts book. What an egotistical dick! Couldn't stand him. No wonder he doesn't have a wife yet, any man who goes crazy because the dinner isn't ready on time doesn't deserve a wife.
A friend of mine shoved the book "Last American Man" into my hands and said "read this". It's a great story, well written...but when I looked up this video I expected Eustace to look much younger and more fit, considering his lifestyle. Maybe it's just the baggy clothes?
I've lived on the land, in the city, and in a small town...if you make good choices it doesn't matter - you will find yourself and be happy almost anywhere :-)
A lifetime of hard work in the wild, or anywhere else, may make you strong and fit, but it won't make you look like a weight lifter or model. Thin and wiry is the expected result.
I'm reading Elizabeth Gilbert's book, The Lastr American Man, currently. It's a great read, Conway is very resourceful, a great campaigner for the environment...but I couldn't do all that hunting.
i've always dreamed of going out into the wilderness and living out there, alone, totally free from everything and everyone and jsut do some soul searching and truly center myself. And then think of indoor plumbing and I realize i'm probably better off right here. BUt seriously, this guy is amazing!
Considering he probably has more knowledge in his little finger than you do in your entire body, I would say he has advanced plenty.
Some people will choose to live a more simple life and some people will choose to delve in the world or technology. Neither is wrong, and both have much to offer to the human race.
I guarantee he has more knowledge in natural medicine than almost any doctor and more knowledge of survival than any scientist. If this isn't advancing I don't know what is.
"The Last American Man" is a great book. We need more people like Mr. Conway in this country. His love of nature is real and truly shows that "less" is more.
Yes, thanks Eustace. Thanks Dr. Pete Reichle who led the first Hopi/ Navajo class trip under the suggestion of Eustace. For anyone in the area I'd suggest visiting Turtle Island during their open house. Good luck finding the place
yes,i just read Last American Man. Very profound look at human nature in many extreme ways. Have your fathers and mothers read this book. I'd say this book is more poignantly about the extreme's of a human psyche and what drives a soul in pain as well as joy!
There is a book on Eustace called the Last American man, by Elizabeth Gilbert, its one of the best books I've ever read. Funny, sad, inspiring. I recommend it.
May the Warm Winds of Heaven
Blow softly upon your house.
May the Great Spirit
Bless all who enter there.
May your Mocassins
Make happy tracks
in many snows,
and may the Rainbow
Always touch your shoulder.
Always~

The money for his land was given to him by his father, not by his saving every penny and living in a tepee.

Am I the only one that realizes that "Like a modern day Thoreau" is an insult?
Thoreau was a pansy city boy who only enjoyed the wilderness if it was in walking distance to his home.

That's be funny if he had a giant marijuana field by his cabin. Government arrests him for utilizing his 'nature' hahahah
Would be better if when they approached him he was only wearing a loin cloth and grunting etc.

Read BILL BRYSON'S "A WALK IN THE WOODS" about his trip up the Appalachian Trail. It will make you laugh and appreciate the woods.
