  • did the Egg/Mayo work

  • @fantagefan12341 yep been working for years, i even used to do egg/mayo treatments when i was relaxed

  • o__________________0

  • i hope my hair be this curly when i finish transtioning.

  • do you shampoo and deep condition the hair before or after you do the egg and mayo treatment ?

  • where did you get this comb again? i'm scared to order cause what if the product never comes and they just steal my money?

  • @xclusiv4321 i bought the comb from Wal-Mart! lol the Denman brush, i ordered online. but i hear Sally's carries them as well

  • Wow I use vo5 too lol.

  • ahh FINALLY. Ive been looking for someone with hair similar to mine so i can transition from natural-'straight' hair to naturally curly. Ive never gotten a perm but i go to the salon every 2 weeks to get it straightened, but im going to college next year and i want to wear it naturally. Its VERY thick, a lot thicker than yours unfortunately and the curl pattern isnt so defined. Your videos are teaching me a lot thanks so much! by the way what is your curl type? 4a?

  • @happieeyore it's more 3c in the front & 4a in the back. i have a weird mix of curls.

are u sure it's actually "thicker?" or is it just "poofier" bcuz u straighten so often? the less i straighten or pick out my curls, the better they define... & the less volume i have. ;)

  • wow even before the detangle your hair is outstanding

  • @pria114 awww thank u ^__^

  • your hair looks great after you've detangled it, but what do you do next? how do you get the conditioner out and how do you define your curls? my hair is just like yours but i've always worn it the same way, tied up and plaited, so im trying to explore new things to do with it! i'd love to get it like yours, pelase help!

    Thanks for the video :)

  • @TheBeejay11 i rinse most of it out... mostly near the roots. then squish out the rest of it, & re-apply a little more by squishing more in with my hands a little bit at a time as a leave-in. if i'm using an actual leave-in, then i rinse completely of course. =)

  • @ladylibra1982 also, i define my curls by plopping... i show that in another vid if you need the visual aid! ;)

  • I keep hearing mixed reviews about the denman brush...my best friend who is natural (I'm transitioning) said that it was pulling her hair out! That's scary!

  • I've heard some people complain about that, although I've never had that problem. they recommend opening up the brush and removing some of the bristle rows.

  • @tashafawn24 there are diff kinds of denman brushes.i use the small denman d1431 freeflow which is widely space with few teeth.there are meduim and big denman freeflow brush.

  • @tashafawn24 the denman brushes that people seem to hate are the denman brushes called the styling brush like d4.i use the d4 and i hated it.

  • @tashafawn24 i forgot to mention that i use the bootleg denman D4 that is made here in canada so it isn't the real denman. The bootleg bristles are shorter and the rubber is very cheap compare to the rubber used on the denman.because the bootleg brush bristles are shorter and the rubber is cheap, the brush couldn't define my curls and it made my hair puffy

  • i cut very small sections of my hair where the new growth was to see if my curl pattern would change and it hasnt..i guess it varies with diff people lol

  • has your hair changed since the bc?...I heard it may change after the bc and then again after its gets some length.

  • i've heard that too. mine didn't change after the BC, but the pattern appears more elongated with length.

  • your hair is beautiful..I'm still stuggling w/ mine I braided it back up..is it something about that Denman brush..I got a Conair Detangling brush it's too big..

  • trust me sometimes I can't handle mine either. I braid it up and put it out of my mind for a few weeks, it keeps me from getting frustrated and chopping it all off again! ;)

  • You got beautiful cruls with the denman brush!

  • thank you =)

  • Thanks for your expeditious reply!

  • no prob =)

  • Do you have any suggestions on gel to

    define the hair?

  • I typically only use gel over a regular conditioner or leave-in conditioner... otherwise it tends to dry my hair out. But, be careful if you do this. Sometimes the gel and leave-in conditioner will cause these weird white cottage-cheese globs in your hair if they don't mesh well.

I liked Sunsilk's Gel and Creme Twist more than anything else. =)

  • your hair is EXACTLY like mine but I'm still in the working-with-it phases :) I'm at 1yr 4mths since I chopped it off! Yours looks absolutely lovely!!!! :D

  • yay, another hair twin! i look forward to seeing your progress... =)

    thank you for the compliment!

  • Hey, I have very similar hair to you...

How often a week do you detangle it?

I detangle 1 X a week and my hair is so detangled (your hair seems easy to detangle)! Why is that? lol. do you do something to it through out the week to keep it like that?

  • I detangle once a week with a comb/Denman. But during the week, I co-wash and finger comb. ;)

  • beautiful hair!!!!!

  • thank you =)

  • this is just like my hair when i wash it.

then it poofs if i dont put it in some curlers.

and i can nice detangle when dry, or its a huge afro.lol.

do you know why it gets like that?

  • if curly/coily hair is lacking moisture, it tries to get it from the air around it. notice when it's humid out, is when we see the most frizz? ;) this is why i keep conditioner in my hair, so it is coated in moisture.

also if you comb your hair when dry, you're disturbing the curl pattern. instead of each curly strand of hair joining with other strands to form clumps of curls, you get each coil pushing against the other. this makes the hair "bigger" so it becomes a fro.

  • that old brush looks like mine, think its time for me to invest in some new hair products. lol

  • LOL! gotta find a brush that can hang with our hair... ;)

  • wow your hair is realllllllllyyyyyyy curly

  • i am not mixed.

  • whats ur ethnicity?

  • African American

  • We're all mixed LOL. There's no such thing as pure this and that. We're 99.9% the same and there's no gene for race.

I like your hair in this video. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it took you an hour to detangle. At most it takes me 15 minutes and my hair is very curly and past my bra strap. Straight it's to my waist.

  • please say that again!!! =) i think i'm gonna address this issue in a video soon, it's starting to irk me.

it must be nice! my hair is way too thick for that, and the coils too tight. unless it's been in a protective style all week, i never get it detangled that quickly...

  • this is your hair after the protein egg treatment?

  • shoot! i went back and looked at the dates... yes, this was after the egg/mayo treatment. =)

  • What conditioner are you using in this vid?

  • V05... the lavendar conditioner with honey and silk amino acids added to it...

  • Thank you so much for the quick reply. I'm gonna get right on that. Your hair looks sooo healthy.

  • your welcome! glad i could help =)

  • lamentablemente solo hablo en español, y me seria de gran ayuda que me contestaras en español. y te lo repito. me encanta tu pelo!!!

  • hi i have a question for you... when my hair is wet its really curly but when i dry its begin like pouf (afro) can you give me idea for my hair to stay curly...exuse me my english it to bad because i only speak french. thanks.

  • sounds like you need to find something that will keep it moisturized. when my hair dries out, it poofs more than curls too. i use my regular conditioner as a leave-in, it works well. some people do this and then add gel on top to keep the hair defined. you have to experiment with a few different things and find out what works best for your hair. =)

  • Looks pretty. Is online the only way I can get one?

  • i hear they are also sold at Sally Beauty Supply

  • Really? Thanks..

  • no prob ;)

  • kccc?

  • ? i am confused ... =/

  • I think kccc may stand for kinky curly curling custard. But I dont know what they were trying to ask you?

  • oh ok! i have never used that stuff.

  • Kinky Curly Curling Custard

  • where did u get ur brush from?

  • i bought it online, but i think they have them @ Sally Beauty Supply stores as well

  • i thought u were relaxed at first lol but you have beautiful hair

  • years ago i was... thanks for the compliment =)

  • LOL Throw that missing bristle brush away, lady!!! LOL! ;-)

    ^-^

  • LOL i promise i did! i just kept it for this vid =)

  • so you detangled with conditioner on, then you rinsed out conditioner?

  • yes... or sometimes i just squeeze the excess conditioner out and what's left becomes my "leave-in" conditioner

  • doesn't you hair fall out if it's just a regular conditioner that you leave in?

  • no of course not. why would you think that?

  • Someone told me once that if you leave a normal conditioner in beyond the recommended time, your hair will start to fall out.

  • Absolutely love your videos. They have helped me a lot!!! I'm curious though, I want to try the honey/h20/conditioner for regular use to help my strengthen my hair but I have a really good conditioner that i like because it detangles my very well. So can I use the honey/h2o with shampoo instead or is it just for conditioning? Thanks again for all your info!

  • i dunno how well the honey would work in shampoo. but i know some people water down their shampoo so it's not as harsh of a cleanser (plus it lasts longer that way)

  • whoa when I watched this there were 7,777 views!

    weird.....

anyways, your vids are really helpful! thanks so much!

  • I prefer a wide tooth comb vs denman brush...the denman pulled some of my hair out and it made the curls shrink. I like the wide tooth combs with thick teeth.

  • really??? so they really DO last then! =)

  • Is the Denman only available online or can you buy it at a store?

  • they have it at Sally's i believe =)

  • thank you so much i'm going to look and see if they have it there today

  • What is your favorite Deep Conditioner and Moisturizing Shampoo (every shampoo I try seems to dry my hair)? I did my big Chop in Sept & none of my old Conditioner's seem to Moisturize my hair good enough. I have 3c type hair, very curly. It seems as if my natural hair is dryer then when it was permed.

  • i think Trader Joe's Nourish Spa isn't too drying. but honestly i've stopped using shampoo, instead i use shikakai and amla powder.

i like to use Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose as my deep conditioner (it's light and very VERY moisturizing). my hair doesn't seem to like thick, heavy deep conditioners... i guess because they have protein in them. and if my hair needs moisture, protein doesn't make the situation any better.

  • Girl I am Big Fan of ur Videos and Fotki.

Y did u decide 2 go natural again?

  • i was just tired of my relaxed hair... just bored and wanted something different. =)

  • your hair is so healthy looking.. what texture do yo have... did you always have such nice curl pattern

  • it's something between 3c and 4a. i've only been natural for 3.5 yrs

  • You are one of my natural hair gurus! I love your fotki and now your videos! Thank you for making this video!

  • you're welcome! glad you found it useful =)

  • what do you do to your hair in the winter? how do you wear it?

  • the same... i am not good with protective styles

  • I know what you mean about putting the comb it and taking it out after just a little bit, picking it out to detangle. That's what I did/do, too. In fact, I used a pick.

  • i should probably just invest in a pick and call it a day... LOL

  • i finally got my denman!!!...it took only 15 minutes to detangle my hair instead of the hour or more it normally would take...also i picked up the sunsilk leave in conditioner and my hair is loving it!!!! smells yummy too.. you are turning me into a real product whore...will try the curlisto method tonight...thanks chacha...oh, you mentioned something about using honey...i couldn't really hear your audio is a little wacky..:)

  • LMAO @ "product whore" =)

sorry about the audio... yes i add about a tablespoon of honey to my half-water/half-conditioner mixture. 2 tablespoons of honey to my regular conditioner. it is a natural humectant that helps promote coil definition.

  • okay when are you going to write your book because i've gotten so many comments since i've been using the honey/conditioner/h20 regiment followed by the leave-in sunsilk...my hair stays silky and hydrated all day...and my curls are like bam bam bam...i can't thank you enough, seriously, thank you...

  • "bam bam bam" LOL! awesome description

  • i'm sorry for askin if this offends u or not ..... but ummm .. are u black or are u mixed ... I've seen some comments that u were talkin in spanish so .... just wondering .... thanks

  • it offends me more when people assume... so thank you for asking! =)

i am black (not mixed) and although i keep changing my major, my minor is in Spanish. i speak a few other Latin-based languages too, only a few choice words and phrases though.

  • do you wash out any of the conditioner when you condition your hair in the shower? or do you just condition your hair in the shower and then leave it in?

  • i squeeze out the excess conditioner, and what's left in my hair serves as a leave-in.

  • Okay Thanks! Could you do a video on your bedtime and morning routines? your day 2 video doesnt seem to be working

  • where can I get a Denman brush?

  • i bought mine online, but they carry them at some Sally Beauty supply

  • Agradezco muchísimo. paz hermanita.

  • de nada =)

  • I'm a bit confused. You have the almost exact same hair as me. I just use a paddle brush, I would never use a comb cause it would take too long. Did that brush do anything else exceptional??

  • i was a die-hard comb user, yeah it look longer but it's a lot easier to break brush bristles than comb teeth, LOL! ;)

the Denman is very sturdy and has some give, i do not worry about whether i'm gonna break bristles. also, the Denman gives great curl definition - from what others have said, even on hair that has no curl pattern. but of course that means more shrinkage, which can be the down side.

  • your hair looks so much more easier to detangle!! my hair takes 2 hours to detangle!! my hair type is like 4b 4c. i hate the detangling

  • mine took about that long with a comb. i'm telling you, the Denman is the truth! =)

  • is that your natural hair. It's so beautiful

  • yes it is, and thanks for the compliment! =)

  • ur welcome

  • After I saw this video I went out a bought one. I got it from Sally's, but I forgot how much I paid for it. Price between $8.00 - $12.00. Its worth every penny!

  • yes ma'am it is! love my Denman

  • Okay, you've convinced me to get the Denman...and to subscribe, thanks! ;~)

  • thank you for subscribing! =)

  • how long did it take you to detangling using the denman and the time u did with the comb?

  • it took me about 30 seconds to detangle that front section with the Denman. the side i used a comb on, i stopped a few times to talk so i'd guess it took me about a minute when i deduct a few seconds here and there.

  • where did you get your denman brush from?

  • i bought mine online, but i hear they sell them at some Sally Beauty Supply stores too

  • how often do you detangle your hair?

  • every 7-10 days or so. sometimes longer if i'm feeling lazy and keeping my hair in a bun a lot.

  • omg, my hair looks exactly like that when its wet! i hate detangling. anytime someone tells me they love my hair i have the urge to scream then comb it for me!!! lol. sorry. but seriously, i wonder how many hours of my life i waste just trying to detangle my hair.

  • LOL i feel ya! that's why i wanna slap people who talk that "good hair/bad hair" nonsense. nothing wrong with nappy hair, but people think napps that have a curl/coil pattern must be easier to deal with. *rolls eyes*

do you have a Denman? man it has made my life so much easier. either that, or an Aveda brush, i heard they're good too. =)

  • yo, thanks for the tip! i will definitely pick up either of the two this weekend. anything that will cut down on my hair routine is a plus. keep up with the videos, their very helpful!

  • no prob =)

  • lucky that your curls forms with little to no product.

  • yeah, perhaps. i'd still love it if it didn't though. =)

  • have you tried the kakakiki kombbrush? i was wondering how it work on 3c-4a hair.. most of my hair is 3c

  • no, i've never heard of it... off to Google i go! =)

  • lol najah has a video on it

  • oh ok! i will check it out ;)

  • After seeing this video today I googled the brush and found you on LHCF where it left a link to your fotki. I tried to email you but it came back however just wanted to say thank you for the helpful videos! LOVE your hair!!

  • sorry about the email! =/ but thank you for the compliments. you can always leave a note in my guestbook on Fotki or send me a message here, i try to answer them ASAP. =)

  • it took me about 30 seconds to detangle that front section with the Denman. the side i used a comb on, i stopped a few times to talk so i'd guess it took me about a minute when i deduct a few seconds here and there.

btw i checked the box, it was a D3 =)

  • Hi LadyLibra, great videos and great hair!!!! what kind of conditioner did you use? I know you said it was the lavender stuff, water, and honey. can you tell me what kind of conditioner and how much water and honey. why does it foam? I'm looking for that exactly. TYIA!!!!!

  • i think the full name is V05 Lavendar Luster? something like that... it's purple, LOL! i fill half the 15 oz. bottle with conditioner, then add 1 oz. of SAA, squirt some honey in (i'd estimate 1-2 tablespoons) and then fill the rest of the bottle up with water. shake well and apply to hair. =)

i don't know why it foams! LOl it's not gonna hurt your hair though.

  • i use my denman while under the shower head loaded with conditioner and it glides through so smoothly.

  • my showerhead has weak water flow. =( but i did buy a new one... with a filter at that. soon i will be happy again with my detangling sessions... it's SOOOOO much nicer when you do it under running water IMO =)

  • Does leaving the conditioner in your hair make it more difficult to moisturize? I like the definition the condish gives but im worried itll create a barrier between my hair and my moisturizer... I think i might try this but add some evoo or glycerine.

    Thanks for posting!

  • by all means add stuff! that stuff in my hair is half condish, half water and i added honey and an ounce of silk amino acids to it.

the conditioner will coat moisture in your hair. so yeah you will eventually wanna wash so you don't get build up! ;)

  • my twin's hair is like yours. i always thought she was taking her time when conditioning and detangling in the shower. she takes a hour and more!

  • LOL@ it's just a brush. I love my denman too!! I have a D5 and it's great.

  • Your hair is gorgeous and very healthy looking!! Do you style your hair in other ways other than the curlisto way? If so could you post a how to video?

  • thanks! =) i don't normally do the Curlisto method... normally i detangle like you see in the vid, then squish out most of the conditioner instead of rinsing and let it air dry. (yes, i have a vid coming up soon on that too!)

  • did you have to order it online? how much did u pay?

  • i probably could've found it at Sally Beauty Supply... but there's not one in my area and i don't have a car. so i just ordered it online, with shipping it was about $25.

  • I thought the brush was too much money too, but after I finally sucked it up and bought it, I was happy with it, hope it cuts down on your detangling time :-D

  • it has! it was a wise investment ;)

  • Man...your hair is sooooooooooooo pretty!!!!!

So...what made your hair foam as you were detangling? Was it the conditioner mixture you showed in the beginning????

  • yeppers. =) and thank you!
