  • I guess guys like Ford, Carlton, Landau and such are missing something. LOL! If you want the sound of a certain Dumble, then you need that certain Dumble. Its that simple, and you really should have known.

  • Not if you are a good Player. if your a killer Player, you could make do with a nice boutque anything head. if your paying whats needed to get a dumble, your missing something. Sorry.

  • Cool head, but the price is beyond INSANE. You couldliterally buy 30 heads that would sound as good if not better for that price.

  • @alabarb28 I played those 30 heads, and none of them sounded even CLOSE to the Dumble. The Dumble killed all of them........Easily.

  • @Tag101101 You could still choose any one of those other 30 great sounding heads or a high end Dumble clone and with the right dialing in and cab set up, I PROMISE you no one in the audience will ever know the difference, These amps are unique and sound great, but for the tone alone overpriced, not to mention they were specifically custom made to fit specific players.Hell, Henry Kaiser owns a couple of great Dumbles and he still sounds like shit!

  • I enjoy talking about Dumbles while eating a bacon, lattice and tomato sandwich. why NOT try a metal zone thru a Dumb bell? It might sound good!

  • instant ford

  • Just my 2 cents worth but, If Larry Carlton swears by these, and most of them are custom made for the specific client, (at a serious price that I hear is close to $20K in some cases) There has to be something there. The clip was a really good cover of a Robin Ford tune that I caught right off. Say what you want, but if you want that tone, there is really only one way to get it.Dumble. Just like nothing (Even the boogie Mark V) really sounds just like it. they are all attempts to get that sound.

  • @Tag101101 I'll see what I can do on the Dumble demo, as it's not mine but we'll try. The Egnater rebel 20 is good as well and affordable with sparkling harmonics on 2X12 cab. But I actually think the renegade is better sounding even still. I do understand what you mean my the Mesa M5 being nasal. But I think it's all about taste preferences. I think Eric Johnson uses a Dumble, but check out Andy Timmons band as he gets really juicy tones out of some Mesa boogies as well.

  • I do have a friend who has a dumble overdrive and it sounds very good. But The fender hotrod deville really sounds just as good and sells for less. I think the Mesa M5 beats most amps out there though. Of course this is just my opinion.

  • @luteplayer2525

Lets see a clip of you playing your friends Dumble. Would love to hear what it sounds like!

  • @luteplayer2525 i've been using the hot-rod deville amp for quite a few yrs. love it.

i',ve probably got 5-6 amps, but that amp works best for me.

especially coupled with my yamaha DG STOMP pre-amp. never found anything better.

  • @luteplayer2525 you cannot be serious that a hotrod deville sounds better than the dumble

  • Great tone, no doubt. Like silk and cream. Sounds Robben Fordish. How much did you pay for that one?

  • How much for that baby?

  • @Barnekkid 85K

  • I agree many fenders have better clean tones than most Dumbles. However, for low to mid gain over driven tones its not even close. The Dumble stayes clear and articulate, and gives the best wooden flute type tones of any amp. Its like a very clean overdrive. Like tons of sustain with very little actual distortion. Thats what they are prized for, and why so many guys love them. No other amp made does it as well.

  • Certain vintage amps have a mystique attached which raises the price tag. Add to that the rarity and of an amp like The Dumble ODS and you pay an enormous faceplate premium.

Personally, I would prefer a Fender HR Deville III 212, which costs around $1100 and puts out pretty much the best clean/mid-gain sound around. Or a vintage "diamond in the rough" like an '65-'69 Ampeg Gemini 1, one of the most gorgeous crystal clean bell like amps I've ever heard and not many people know about them....

  • @SixStringHarmonies A Gemini I or II is one of my 'if I only had the money' amps. Peter Buck played a Gemini (think it was a II) on REM's first album and I love how clean and clear his guitar lines are. As for Dumbles... not my sound at all.

  • @HeartfeltDawn You should look on CL, ebay, or even local music stores. You can score a '60's Gem I or II for as low as $300-$600 in need of a little work. Like I said before, not many people know about how nice they sound so the prices are relatively low. Plus, they were big sellers back in the day and Ampeg made a ton of them so they aren't rare at all.

  • @SixStringHarmonies True for people in the US but us folk in the UK rarely see them about. When they are available, they're not cheap. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get one in the future.

  • Nice. The most over-rated amp on the planet! Sound the best, not even close, quiet, no! Best gain structure / overdrive, not even close. Best clean, not even in the ball park! etc etc. Funny how an amp can get blown out of proportion via who once played one in the past. hahaha Sign of the times. A great tone, absolutely. As good as lets say a mark five mesa boogie, not even close as good. or this or that. I had to say that, these amps are nice sounding. But there are so many better ones now.

  • @nznaturopath

Boogie MK V??? My fender HR Deville kills that trash. 10 million nasal like AWFUL tones. You better find a Dumble and actually try one!

  • @Tag101101 Mesa Mk V is not trash compared to a dumble of any model, or make, or combo. It's all in your soul translated into your hands and fingers, translated into your guitar strings, translated into your amp. A Dumble is amazing, hands down. But I am a Mesa man, always have been. My Mk IV and MK V are amazing amplifiers that translate my voice so well that I have not ever even wanted to play any other amps-but a Dumble, I would play, because it captures a type of "breath" no other am does.

  • @nznaturopath HA, mesa's suck arse

  • @aec0691 Your arse maybe. Are you like that?

  • Not only is it rare to actually see one of these things in a music store, but to play it and then be lucky enough(or wealthy) to tote it home is a nice day indeed! Excellent, man!

  • The commentary is amusing. The playing in this clip is fine. There is no need to mock or defend it. If you take a guy like Carl verheyen, he can plug into a peavey bandit and still sound better than everyone on the planet. It's not the amp, it's the player and the touch. You don't need a dumble

  • what kind of speakers please?

  • You know tone.

  • Hey glad you liked it. The story is me and my buddy went to Lark street music to play the Dumble. I turned it on, and that video is the very first thing I played. he took it just for fun. I ended up buying the amp, as trust me, in person it sounded unreal. I have tons of real clips of it in every style at my soundclick site, and you can hear what it really sounds like there if you like. My artist name there is tag101. Do a search and I have over 400 music clips there. Thanks for listening.

  • Nice sounding amp (of course, it's a Dumble), this could be a better demo if you messed with the controls a bit, or varied the sounds of the amp a little. Is this a 2 channel model?

  • HaHa, jast listened to your single clip. Pure noise. Way to ruin everything thats awesome about music. Where are those damn Advil, I have a headache now.

  • @Tag101101

    Buddy, you're a complete DICK!

Why would you "cut" this guy up just because your idea of perfect tone is different than everyone else's???

I bet you SUCK, and you just want to pass along "YOUR" mental-impotence, to try and make yourself look AND feel better!!!...D-I-C-K. DICK.

    David...Halifax, Canada.

  • @axeslinger013 Another asinine comment from a true assface. I have over 100 clips posted at my soundclick page. Go listen and learn. I see you have exactly zero clips posted, which always goes to show you are the one who truly sucks.

  • @axeslinger013 I'm confused. The guy Tag101101is the one making the stupid comments, yet the guy who downloaded this video is Tag101101??!?

  • Haha, way to completely ruin everything that's awesome about politician

  • Nothing wrong with a Fender!! :)

  • @Tag101101 I put a neck and some pickups on a closet door sounds just like a strat!!!!!

  • Dude you were plugged into a fender! haha

  • Mad?? You seem a bit confused. (Not surprising for yet another guy (girl??) with no clips of their own posted.) The comments on here have kept me laughing for 2 years now! VERY GOOD!

  • you get mad a lot

  • I am Joe Walsh.

  • Coming from yet another critic who has nothing posted of his own. Interpretation...you cant play for shit. You really are brainless.

  • Painful words from a bedroom warrior

  • Hey lenny ray brainless, I owned pretty much every clone ever made. None sounded close to the Dumble, so I bought it and had it cloned myself. Now its dead on. You should have known that, but I guess you are still part of the brainless academy and always will be. Lol!

  • You could get a clone without shifting your bank account right? I guess they don't teach that at the Tone Academy which you probably dropped out before getting enrolled.

  • Thats why you don't have it right?

  • HeyLennyRayZappa, Thats why I bought it and had it cloned. VERY GOOD, VERY GOOD!!

  • Dear Tag. You just have to ask yourself, is that difference in tone worth the extra 82k? not really, don't give me the 'it does for me' we all know 85K is enough to support a family. Go home and be a family man.

  • Hey lenny ray Zappa. Yes, you have to ask yourself is it wortrh the extra money, and to me, the answer was ABSOLUTELY FRIGGING YES!!! YEEEEHHAAAA!!!!!!!!!! Only the Quinn can TOUCH it!!!!!

  • Hey AlembicPools,

Nothing wrong with that! No amp is for everyone. The tough part was before Quinn made the TKT amps, if you loved the sound of a Dumble, nothing else would work! Not even sure he makes them anymore, so one may have to spend the 45-85K if they really want that sound anyway.

  • you have to be an idiot to get a 85K amp, even if it does sound like the worlds best amp, its still useless

  • @LennyRayZappa Said: "you have to be an idiot to get a 85K amp, even if it does sound like the worlds best amp, its still useless." Thats coming from someone who does not have the 85K for the amp If you had 85K to spend on an amp, and the Dumble sounded like the best amp in the world to you, you would have to be dumb NOT to buy it!

  • @LennyRayZappa Said: "you have to be an idiot to get a 85K amp, even if it does sound like the worlds best amp, its still useless."

Tag says: Thats coming from someone who does not have the 85K for the amp If you had 85K to spend on an amp, and the Dumble sounded like the best amp in the world to you, you would have to be dumb NOT to buy it!

  • There are all kinds of audio clips I made of the amp with quality recording gear at my soundclick site. Search for artist tag101 at the soundclick website.

  • There are all kinds of ausio clips I made of the amp with quality recording gear at my soundclick site. Search for artist tag101 at the soundclick website.

  • why people post tone tests with such horrible recordings is beyond me.

it actually hurts the public opinion of the amp, it probably sounds a lot better in person but people will take these clips as viable tone examples.

the poster should consider stopping until he can properly record these amps.

    just an opinion.

    LMAO at the comments.

  • @stage1greg this sounds okay for a youtube video..why go throught the trouble just to show an example..

  • I dig that 335 - check it out, it's two inches away from that amp and it's not feeding back or causing any problems. No problem!

  • is this the famous tag?

  • I'm a skeptic. I'm sure they're great, but I'm still a skeptic lol

The video gets a "Like" from me, but that doesn't mean I think they're necessarily worth their asking prices;)

  • Dumble blows.

  • Cool. Sounds like an amp.

  • All right.... OK. So what should I do now?

  • Where the hell is this guitar shop??

  • Hey guitarstudent101 That was Lark Street music in NJ 1.5 years ago. VERY VERY GOOD!

  • @Tag101101 I can tell its very very good. Dont have to convince me!!

  • if i had just spend $85k on an amp it would sound like the greatest thing on the planet to me too

  • Hey Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick You have it backwards babe. If you coukld afford it, and you heard an amp that sounded as great as that Dumble, you WOULD spend 85K on the amp. Lol!

  • Great tone, tasty chops. Thanks

  • ITooknotes........lets hear your playing! Show me how its done, babe. I see you have nothing posted either. Wink wink. :)

  • @Tag101101 First of all, please don't call me 'babe'; I'm not into the whole homoerotic thing. Second, I don't need to post anything to prove myself; after all, it is plain as day, black and white, CLEAR AS CRYSTAL that your playing is horribly out of tune. It's not just the guitar--your bends are simply atrocious. If it makes you feel better to think I can't play, then go on and believe that....it still doesn't change the obvious fact that your intonation is awful.

  • @ITookNotes Whatever you say babe...umm...I mean clipless. Wink!

  • @Tag101101 Yes, I'm clipless. I'm satisfied with my manhood and thus have no need to compensate. Also, I'm not an attention hound; I'm secure in my playing and don't feel the need to try to impress someone with an over-priced amp. You still haven't addressed the fact that your playing is badly out of tune in this clip.

  • @ITookNotes Satisfied with your manhood and playing, but you go around criticizing others with nothing posted of your own.. HAHAHA!! What a JOKE!! I have hundreds of clips up at my sounclick site showing my playing. I suggest you go there, download some of my clips, and learn. VERY GOOD VERY GOOD!

  • @Tag101101 I find it fascinating that you're more than willing to accept flattering comments from people who haven't posted clips, and simply take them at their (obviously) unqualified word. But when someone refuses to polish your knob, then and only then do you start complaining about clips. That, oh mighty Tag, is what we call hypocrisy. This is why people make cartoons about you. And still, you haven't addressed your inability to play in tune.

  • @ITookNotes That is called being polite, which you obviously know nothing about. Lets see. You are assuming I cant play in tune by a clip I made walking into a music store, grabbing a guitar off the wall, and plugging into an amp I had never heard or played before I even tuned up or played a single note? My buddie took that video, and I have no problems with it. Its a great opportunity for many to hear a raw video of a very rare Dumble EL34 non HRM amplifier. It shows your foolishness!

  • @Tag101101 It shows that you can't play in tune, and weren't even AWARE that you were out of tune until I pointed it out...only then did you reach for some excuse as to why. Blaming the guitar for being out of tune makes no sense, as nobody with more than half a brain would demo an amp (on video) with an out of tune guitar, AND it does not explain your horribly out of tune bending. Try again.

  • @ITookNotes Again...Show me how its done. Clip please. I am waiting! I have a feeling I will be waiting a LOOOOONG time. Lol! VERY GOOD!

  • @Tag101101 Me posting a clip would not, in any way, change the fact that you play out of tune and don't even know it. That you proclaim to 'know tone' is laughable; you have discredited yourself completely. You can sniff that Dumble cork for eternity, but it won't do anything to improve your intonation. If you think this clip in any way sounds good, you have a tine ear and there is no hope for you.

  • @ITookNotes

Sorry babe. Thats your theory. Mine is you cant play at all, and dont even know what is in or out of tune, thus, no clips. You will remain Mrs.Clipless. Get back to me when you can play something well enough to post a clip.

  • Tag knows tone? Doubtful. One thing is for sure: Tag does NOT know intonation.

  • @ITookNotes honey, you shouldn't have. a guitar sitting at a store may not have the intonation set right, but as far as the playing on this vid, the bends are just fine. there is such a thing as not exactly bending to pitch. it's called blues. listen to some robben ford. he does that a lot too.

  • Thok....just listened to your playing. Maybe you should actually learn how to play a LITTLE before you comment on anything musical? VERY GOOD VERY GOOD!

  • as usual, nothing special from something that costs more than a car.

  • VERY GOOD, VERY GOOD!! Now you need to buy yourself a TKT183 (Tag knows tone) 183 D clone.

  • I just saw a video on TGP, and the basic conclusion was "Tag knows tone". I didn't know who Tag was.. no I do.

  • 85K??? 5 miilion babe. Dunce cap for you today! Now go sit in the corner!

  • $85,000.00 - Good luck, bro. One thing is true- you should NOT have a Fumble - does NOT fit your style at all.....

  • Comment removed

  • Great tone mate! I enjoyed listening to the amp. Nice chops too.

  • @jtschew Thanks JTschew, I appreciate it.

  • @jtschew Thanks JTschew, I appreciate it. There are many much better sample clips at the Soundclick site. Search for Artist Tag101101

  • I think this does sound cool....but you know how I know you're a D-Bag? Anyone who writes something like this...."Play in bands? When "I" find bands good enough. Its always on MY terms, with tunes "I" want to play." So I guess you really don't play in any bands because it's safer, right?

  • @glguitarman Hey guitar man, can I hear one of your videos? I cant seem to find anything of yours posted. ?????????? Hmmmmmm.

  • @Tag101101 Why does glguitarman have to have a video posted for you to answer his question, Tag?

    Lol. Typical Tag.

  • @TEHBR00TZ Because if one is going to be a critic, you had best prove you know what you are talking about.. In this case its guitar playing. Those who criticize without posting their own playing, usually cant play at all. Just empty words on a page babe.

  • I would buy one in immediately as long as it's a hardwired Dalmatian with NOS

    Mullards and mustard caps.

  • Mrs Burst said :

You must be obsessed with Robben Ford. Do you actually play in a Band? Or just make clips? You would have been better off dropping 50K on a Porcelain Dalmatian. Tag says.......Obsessed with Ford?? Why yes I am!! VERY GOOD!! Play in bands? When "I" find bands good enough. Its always on MY terms, with tunes "I" want to play. Make clips? Yes, that too. And you? Porcelain dalmations: yes i have a few, want to buy one?? YEEEHAAAA!!!!

  • You must be obsessed with Robben Ford. Do you actually play in a Band? Or just make clips? You would have been better off dropping 50K on a Porcelain Dalmatian.

  • I think it sounds great. Ignore the typical youtube commenter bozos. And make moar videos!

  • Funny the comments on this video. The vid was shot with a $300 camera. It was the very first time I plugged into the amp and knew nothing about it. It was also done at talking levels. I bought the amp, and there are plenty of much higher sound clips of it at my Soundclick site. (Other much better videos right here on YT as well) A Boogie MK 5 sounds absolutely nothing like it. Two very different styles of amp.

  • @Tag101101 how much did this cost?

  • @777jordan asked how much this cost.

Tag says.. 5 million dollars. YEEEEHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

  • I gotta say Im not impressed with this clip. I have heard plenty of dumble clips that do the amp plenty of justice but this just isn't one of them. The best dumble tone ever for me anyway is SRV's Little Wing. That was a Steel String Singer loaded with quad KT66's. I'll never afford a dumble but my Mesa Mark V gets me close, thats all I need. To bad you couldn't spend more time with it. I'm sure you would have gotten better tone, it's in there for sure.

  • Fenderkid......

Yes he does babe! In both 6L6 and EL34 versions. TKT 183s... Videos coming soon, so pay attention and learn.

    VERY GOOD, VERY GOOD!!

  • TAG knows tone!! lol lol lol

  • While you're in guitarcenter, ask about the ''pick of destiny''.

  • Hey Mazsenior....... You post that when you are struggling to play ZZ top tunes??? HAHAHA!!!! We have a true clown here!

  • Thank goodness Ford & Carlton know what to do with that amp!

  • Congratulations you managed to make a Dumble sound like crap......

  • @earjwee

Lets hear you play now. :) I see you have nothing posted just like the last guy. Lol!

  • Talk about drinking the Kool Aid. What a joke.

  • @DexterKnows Coming from a guy who has nothing posted of his own. Thats the real joke! Lol!

  • is this the shop in atx?

  • Sounds like a crappy distortion pedal into a solid state amp. I just don't get it.

  • @baytamusic

Then let me hear you equal that tone with your solid state amp and crappy distortion pedal. We are all waiting! :) If you cant post a clip on here, send me the clip and I will post it for you!

    VERY GOOD, VERY GOOD!!

  • @Tag101101 Hey man, not dissing your playing. Just saying, it just sounds weird to me. Plug into the Orange back there.

  • @baytamusic I did. It sounded like a crappy distortion pedal into a solid state amp. :)

  • @Tag101101 Haha! Fair enough.

  • @baytamusic Lol! thank for the good sense of humor and taking my post in the light hearted way it was meant. :)

  • @Tag101101 No worries! Like I said, your playing isn't what I'm talking about. You sound great. All our ears hear different things I guess and I'm not hearing 20k worth of tones there. haha. Rock on dude!

  • @baytamusic i think judging what an amp sounds like in real life from a crappy camera mic is a difficult thing. but if you listen to how the amp is reacting to the guitar, you get kind of an idea. on youtube clips you have to listen differently than in person

  • Hope ur well Tag... miss you on TGP.

  • @2bapilot Thanks! Great to see you here. You can always visit me at Oldschool or Birds and moons. :)

  • Politician

  • @maccrazyg5 I support the left, but im leaning to the right. :)

  • at 0:31 what is that little brown amp behind you with the black panel? I have an identical one and have no idea what the brand is..

  • @Hockey996 Sorry, I have no idea! I was at a music store when that video was shot!

  • eh, somiglia molto AL SUONO DI ROBBEN FORD

  • Marshall amps suck...Tag says they're too buzzy...Tag knows tone.

  • @BullhornGuy Yea, especially when you put a metal zone in front of a TSL with the gain on 10 like you do.

  • @Tag101101 ZAS!! XD

  • @Tag101101 Indeed...you must be right...I bow to his holiness...Tag knows tone!

  • @BullhornGuy A plexi 100 watt sounds better than this hunk of junk.

  • If he puts a Metal Zone in front of a Dumble...

  • @mattwolfson Putting a metal zone in front of ANYTHING is sacralige...

  • Does Mr Dumble still build them?

Is it true, that if you ordered them from him, you had to wait until HE called YOU to pick up your amp, else your money would be lost?

How much did a new cost?

  • @KWFBong You'd have to contact Dumble (good luck, unless you know someone who knows him, maybe Santana) to ask if he would build you amp. Cost In the 1990's was $5k.

Potential amp owners sign a legal contract, with specific wording as to when they will be contacted, expected completion date, and not to reveal the circuitry, etc.

Google for comments dating back 10+years about money being lost/product not delivered. Not the only amp builder or luthier with this reputation and MO.

  • If you realy own a Dumble, what the hell do you need pedals for? Set it up right. If you don't like it, you can sell it and buy a fucking Porsche!

  • great taste and tone

  • I'm sorry but what i hear is quite pedestrian really,

nothing at all sonically superior, I am pretty sure I can achieve

these same tones through my solid-state "old no name" sitting in

    the corner. Please let me qualify that;

I also would half to be pissed drunk and

playing an old Tiesco from the 60's (no offense to

    Tiesco).

  • @fzappa007 dude don't argue with tag. he knows tone

  • sounds like shit, get a better amp dude, i suggest checking out Gorilla amps, they are pretty awesome.

  • very clear sound with very little muffling urm i want one lol

  • Sounds like a Gorilla

  • @MrIkesimba You mean a Gorilla sounds like a Dumble

  • Does it take effects well? How would my tube screamer sound in front of it?

  • @tomfoyfx funny jokes!

  • This room is worth more than my life!

  • I've heard Marshalls that sound FAR better and cost FAR less..

  • Great sound!

  • GallowayJesse

Getting a Dumble for free is like winning the lottery. . incredible story. Howard Dumble can take your amp and re-voice it. A Dumble should not need a pedal in front of it to get a good tone. . unless you want to use a pedal as a boost or for a particular effect. I have seen older Dumbles trade for 40k.. you might have something that you would want to sell? (I would)!!!!

  • how do i get a good tone out of this amp?

a family friend died and left my brother and i all his music stuff incluing a dumble overdrive. it's alright for practice but the distortion is too muffled and smooth and i want to get a better distortion out of it.

will a boss metal zone and an eq get me more of a cutting sound

  • @GallowayJesse To put a Boss metal zone in front of a dumble? thats like dipping gold in black paint to make it look nicer. No offence, but there are people on The Gear Page who would kill you for a statement like that

  • @HaniHanbali13

I heard Dumbles sound the best when played in a gazeebo.

  • @GallowayJesse Yes but only if that gazebo is next to a concrete pond with granite cherub statues and twisty shrubs all the way around it

  • @HaniHanbali13 lol agreed. to put a metal zone in the same room as a dumble is sacrilege.

  • @sl3shredder

The dumble just sounds too much like a practice amp, I'm trying to get a real tone.

What about straps? I heard that different straps can affect your dumble's tone?

I heard you have to be a doctor or lawyer in a midlife crisis to own a dumble, is this also true? HELP!

  • @GallowayJesse Tell that to Ford and Carlton. Lol!

  • @GallowayJesse try celestion G12-75's a 1936 2x12"

  • @GallowayJesse

Lets see a video of you playing it to see if you really have one first.

  • @Tag101101

I ended up trading my dumble for a line 6 after running a metalzone through it didn't make it sound better.

The metalzone into the line 6 sounds great though xD

  • @GallowayJesse hahaha the other day I saw a post in a forum of a guy claiming he got a dumble for a line 6... I trashed him in words due to blasfemy... now I feel guilty...

  • @GallowayJesse

Do you have clue how much one of those costs? What do you mean its just "alright" for practice

  • @GallowayJesse

    I'll buy it from you

  • @GallowayJesse

sell it and buy like 9 mesa triple rectifiers fuckface
