The Foster's effect is a metaphor on the fact that when you do something selfish you get bad consequences.

Weirdsister have found how to channel the consequences into special manifestations such as storms to prevent the destruction of the building, but the Foster's effect manifests normally in much different ways.

I love the idea of a continuation of The Worst Witch, but really they could've done a lot better with this series. It doesn't feel believable, or anything like a representation of student life...more like 15/16 year olds in high school. Also Ethel's character - worked in the old series, but comes off as just annoying here...
