This track is the odd one out on the Odd Fellows Rest album, but the atmosphere of this song is ridiculous - probably one of their best tracks on that album (or ever, for that matter).

Odd Fellows Rest is a really awesome song, and a really interesting cemetary in NOLA. Not in use anymore, it's an old Masonic cemetary at the foot of Canal St. The place is in such disrepair you can literally see bones and skull fragments inside the busted tombs. Song definitely fits the place.

@NOLAWebDesignStudio It's not a masonic cemetery and not connected to masons, it's an Odd Fellows cemetery and was managed by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a worldwide service-oriented fraternity or brotherhood that still exists up until now. Back in the days, there was still no social security system, so as a benevolent organization, the Odd Fellows built cemeteries and gave death benefits. There are many cemeteries in the United States named after the brotherhood - Odd Fellows.FLT

"It's such a long way home." I always loved this song as an awesome contrast to their brutal sludge that has given me plenty of sore necks. I thought it always showed the depth of their talent. This is one serious band! Also, I have always loved Kirk's side projects!

@diownt I call it desert stoner. LOL! I LOVE all those songs you mentioned too. I'm happy to see another Kyuss fan. Every time someone looks through my ipod they ask who Kyuss is. "You know QOTSA? Well the guitarist/singer from that band...." And I always throw in that Kyuss' bassist was one of the candidates to replace D'Amour when he left Tool.

@SpaceOddity101 It is because back in the days, the government did not help in the burial of its citizens, did not offer health care, etc. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization founded in England sometime in the 1700 was brought to America in 1819, then built cemeteries, orphanages and home for the elderly around America. You can actually see a lot of cemeteries in America named Odd Fellows or IOOF.
