I just started playing sc2 about a week ago and even in the bronze league I was just getting annihilated. The tip about focusing on 4 types of units helped me A LOT =D I easily won my very next match!

Bad bronze player = 1# no warp gate. 2# Second base at another main base (hidden) for red. 3# Almost no forge upgrades. 4# 16:17 Sacrificing expensive units. 5# making tech units for no reasons... I am a bronze protoss player and the only reason i am stuck is beacuse: 1# make to much workers early-game, failing to hold of 6-pool (spots me with his first scout and see forge fast expand and just make a sh** ton of zerglings and i kills me). How to win if you can hold of: make workers...

@Nr1mainstreamhater that is tricky. one thing is you might want to try experimenting with your building placement.or skip a few probes to get the cannon out faster. if you do forge fast expand with cronoing you probes out you should be able to still play well even if you miss out on some of the early probes.

Yeah, I think the league system is a little messed up. I just played my first 3v3 for this season, where last I was in silver and this time it put me in Diamond.

Bronze takes forever to get out of. Bronze is the largest league and contains the largest variety of skill. Being rank one bronze in a league doesn't necessarily mean you'll get promoted soon, and being rank 50 bronze doesn't mean you won't get promoted any time soon.

Bronze is so easy for me... I did my placement match and lost to a bunker rush, won 22 games against all silver and gold players, still bronze rank #1.... wtf

@Disturbedfreak2013 The system promotes you once your MMR stabilizes, ergo your win/loss rate is ~50%. Theoretically, if you don't drop any game you could be in Bronze playing master level players.

Games like that PvP just make Bronze league players look way worse than they are. Its a mixed bag really. There are horrendous players in Bronze and then there are people who should probably be in Plat/Diamond in Bronze. Its really a mixed bag.

@MrHav1k That is quite untrue. There's no way someone who deserves to be in Platinum/Diamond is still Bronze. Of course, the skill of bronze players has a really wide range, but deserving to be in Platinum/Diamond means good macro, decent decision making and map awareness, and good scouting. A Bronze level player doesn't have those things, otherwise, there's no way he would still be in Bronze, it's impossible.

That's ignorant. Though. You assume that they only gain those things once they're in a higher league, which isn't true. Bronze players can have good macro, decision making, etc, and either not play a lot, or just not get promoted. I've heard of kids winning dozens of games in a row and being 1st in their divisions for multiple seasons and still not being promoted. Better to look at the actual player and how they play and not a pixel next to their name.

I think it's quite common for people with bronze accounts to let their friends play on the account for epic lawls. I am Diamond, literally all of my IRL friends are forever bronze. None of them like to play me 1v1, but love to see me use their account in bronze.

That being said, I was gold for a while and felt like I was way outplaying everyone I came up against, I just didn't have great scouting so was loosing to silly stuff. I'm sure there are some of those people in bronze too.

Yeah. That can happen, but I'm talking more about people with good mechanics who don't get promoted and all that jazz. People ignorantly think that you're good because of the league you're in, when in reality, its how you play that determines how good you are. League is just pixels....

@MrHav1k Well yes, but you can attribute that largely to the fact that some people learn faster than others. A lot of people are thrown in bronze, and at the time they really ought to be. But then they watch a few videos, pick a few tricks up maybe. And suddenly they're easy gold/plat/lowdiamond level!

Thing is: they're still in bronze, and it takes time to climb out.

Apart from that, which doesn't actually affect what you said in any way, I agree completely.

I'm not going to go too much indepth right now, but I notice you didn't build a Cybernetics Core at about the normal timing. Your strategy revolved around a Zealot rush which is fine, but in PvP you generally want Warpgate asap. Expanding when he was making 20 cannons was a good move, so that's fine, but I noticed the other guy never got warpgate??? lol

11:30 I know what oGsMC doesn't do... He doesn't cut probes at 10 supply for 2 minutes.

My only other advice that isn't common is whenever your money gets over say... 800 total (if that feels odd, 1k), build 2 production buildings. Doesn't even matter what they are. (for the zerg out there, a hatch and a queen is good)

And hey, I'm in plat, and I know for a fact that I can respond appropriately to almost anything my opponent might do with just those units. (The *one* exception that jumps to mind is ZvP them going double stargate, where you just need hydras.

And yes, he was talking about base units. He's saying that only 4 units aren't enough, because he's obsessed with hard countering the enermy.

Hey Day9! I don't know what everyone here thinks but could you dedicate a week or weekend entirely to sub master games (throw in some if you'd like) to teach players and show us things of players of our caliber and not of a professional level.

He very clearly talks in the middle of this very video about how when he goes over those games he's talking to players at that level. Higher level players (such as yourself) will look at the replays and be disappointed, but for lower level players even a few pointers can start making a big difference. It's all about audience. You have nothing to learn from bronze level games, but we do, so why would Day 9 overwhelm bronze level players by berating us for a million things at once?
