Know what? There won't be the first time or the last time for a Deaf child. I am tired of this repeated cycle. I want to do something about this, but it is damn hard. Life is a bitch!
Honestly I don't see her as "ASHAMED" as much as knowing how the world treats Deaf. She didn't want me to be treated as different. It's not as easy as black and white - it's a grey area. She was damn proud of having Deaf grandparents and having me as her Deaf daughter. She just didn't like how the majority treated the minority
Wow, what an interesting and heart felt history of your family. It seemed your mother was ashamed and didn't want you to associate yourself with your deaf grandparents...I find this mind-boggling that she never told you all these years. Made me think of my father, his father was born Jewish, us children never knew we were part Jewish til after my father passed away n my aunt (father's sister) told us after I remarked about 1 picture of their cousin. Wondered why my dad never told us. Same idea.
Oooohhhhhhhh. A powerful and damn HEART-TOUCH and HEART-WRENCH story!! I feel I got to understand you deeper and I thank you for your openness in this video even tho it's obviously still painful. A hug to u.
You seemed very lovely lady I believe but unfortunatelyyour mother did not fight for what she stood up for your Deaf grandmother then your mother might be real selfish after all. In fact she did not share with you all of your childhood about your Deaf grandmother!
true reflections of your journey, I find it very touching. My female side way up to great great great grandmother - Deaf female child born every other generation. My mother and great grandmother - CODAs, they both worked at Deaf schools as dorm counselor and were very involved in Deaf community. I grew up with my Deaf grandparents (gma was teacher at my Deaf school and gpa was dorm counselor) and my hearing parents (mom was dorm counselor at my Deaf school, too). Maybe I do my vlog soon
