Kendo and Jodo go hand in hand. Because the uchidachi is using a sword, it is not uncommon to train in both art.
Shinai waving is not the way of the sword. It is not kendo.

Another YouTuber had informed me that Musashi won his last battle while wielding an oar (ieku)!

That was against the swordsman Sasaki Kojirō and not Muso Gonnosuke. Sasaki was defeated and killed by Musashi in a duel around 1612. Musashi used a wooden sword carved from an oar. Muso Gonnosuke was defeated but allowed to live. The second Gonnosuke-Musashi duel seems to be more legend than fact however.
