How dare anyone put her up there doing Fosse's choreography when she can't fucking do it! Something makes me think Ann Reinking turned a blind eye to this for some reason - or had nothing to do with the casting of AS.

Might be me, but I kinda think she comes across as too sweet, Roxie is the sweeter one but also a bit double, I prefered Rene in the movie, who is sweet but has a lot of attitude, and I kinda miss the bad ass spark with this part.

Not bad, not bad. This part doesn't really have much singin' in it, but it shows that Ashlee can put on a bit of a persona. Not as annoying as I thought it was going to be.
Speaking of Roxie's nose.. I STILL have no idea what happened to Ashlee's nose-er-roni. In a couple of months it transformed into a flat ramp, like the rhinoplasty fairy stopped by for a visit.
I think Ashlee sings the songs well and she's good at the acting too. I think the problem is that she looks a little young to play Roxie so it seems a little strange. I like that she lifted up the newspaper at the end. Too many performers use the newspaper prop without dramatizing it.
...Im not sure she understands Roxie...or...how to act. As for the singing - its alright. All of my opinions are a little prejudice though - my idea of Roxie is Ruthie Henshall, hands down.
Shes a dancer at heart and a great one. I half wish she would have stuck with that. She looks great, but needs to be more of a character in my opinion. =)

Ashlee was offered the part. She didn't ask for it. It was her first professional gig in "the theater." It was only for a one-month run. And for all that she received rave reviews.

Speaking of Roxie's nose.. I STILL have no idea what happened to Ashlee's nose-er-roni. In a couple of months it transformed into a flat ramp, like the rhinoplasty fairy stopped by for a visit.

I think Ashlee sings the songs well and she's good at the acting too. I think the problem is that she looks a little young to play Roxie so it seems a little strange. I like that she lifted up the newspaper at the end. Too many performers use the newspaper prop without dramatizing it.

...Im not sure she understands Roxie...or...how to act. As for the singing - its alright. All of my opinions are a little prejudice though - my idea of Roxie is Ruthie Henshall, hands down.

Shes a dancer at heart and a great one. I half wish she would have stuck with that. She looks great, but needs to be more of a character in my opinion. =)

yeah she seems to have all the ingredients... she was just lacking that certain extra something. Perhaps that extra 'oomph' that comes from just completely letting yourself go on stage and not caring about looking stupid. Everything looks fine, it's just not big enuf, it's missing a bit of sparkle,
at least this will definitely help her live down the whole lip synching bit

yeah cuz even in these clips of her in chicago she doesn't sound bad at all. but yes she is missing that little bit of something that takes it from really good to just GREAT!! and she seems really good all i can say is good for her!!!

There's definitely potential. Though I must say Renee was more sultrier in the movie and the other Broadway actresses had a lot more personality in the role.
Besides, Roxie is easy to be played well.

personally i think her voice was made for this part. i always picture roxie with a raspy voice, with a cute way about her, rather then overly sexy.
i think ashlee did a fine job. though i wish her emotions were a bit bigger.

Good thing you are all idiots and failing to realize not much vocal talent is required to play Roxie Hart... Ashlee did a fine job and looks cute as hell. Renee couldn't sing either, though I loved her. People are too critical of a job they aren't even capable of doing.

Roxie definitley needs to have good vocal talent. She's the lead. I will admit Renee isn't the best singer, but she's better at playing the part.

yea but actually on stage roxie is supposed to be no better vocally than a high school 10th grader it's why she has had a world full of no cuz she really isn't that spectacular. but just cuz its a professional show she has to be a fantastic dancer!! but vocally she's supposed to be just adequate nothing more. but she can be better it's the beauty of the role pretty much any1 can play her

Great job putting this lovely video together.
Ashlee was offered the part. She didn't ask for it. It was her first professional gig in "the theater." It was only for a one-month run. And for all that she received rave reviews.
I think she's delicious in this. Loves it...

i like her. but not in this play. shes just not right for the part. the coudlve casted someone better. Renee Zellweger did such a great job with this part and seeing Ashlee do it kind of ruins it. :/
