I've learn an important rule about car accidents., A chassis repairs= a big no no. You totaled cars with frame damage regardless of the level of damage or their repair cost vs current value ratio. The SUV shown looks like is not worth fixing at all. Why would your CADILLAC shop be placing their reputation at stake with this shoddy workmanship is beyond me.
@Cargo1273 Cars are typically a total loss if it takes more than seventy five percent of its value in monetary funds to repair the car. A car may have a bent frame rail, but if is monetarily feasible to repair such said vehicle, then repaired it should be. Why should anyone scrap a good car that can be adequately repaired and if makes dollars and cents to do such a thing. Dumb ass. You are stupid.
@YouSpamTard Our van was declared totaled because of the hole for the left side of the rear bumper in the frame rail had been torn out by the impact. The cost of replacing that frame rail put it over the 75%. It would have been not totaled if the insurance company would pay for repairing that rail but no they said they could get sued for doing it that way. I guess insurance companies do lose lawsuits once in a blue moon. I would think they pay for the best lawyers and weasle out of claims.
@Cargo1273 I don't know where you learned that but it's wrong. There are several ways to do this. 1 is to pull out the frame rails and repair as this video is showing. The second option, which is more commonly used on a unibody car is to replace the rail if it can't be repaired or to buy a new rail and cut out, or section in shop terms, the area that you need and weld it in place of the damgaed area. The 3rd option is to replace the frame altogether, usually on a truck or large suv.
@Cargo1273 Our van was declared totaled because of the mounting hole for the rear bumper on the left side was torn out by the impact. Replacing the frame rail was the only way the insurance company would do it and they didn't want to pay for it vs welding the hole and re drilling it out.
what a mickey work with that heavy hit and used a little clamp to pull the frame .with a tape measuring is that right .I'll think about it .when I send my car to repair.nice video by the way.
wow, a tape measure. That must be so much more precise then using lasers and computer controlled system to make sure your frame is perfect. Silly frame repair places wasting all the money on high tech stuff.
the new "carmax" commercial. shows you "how its done" before they throw it back out on the lot or showroom thats after they get rid of the body from the trunk after they fished it out of the lake.
my dads focus just got totalled. would the re-straightening leave effects like un reliability and leaning to one side cus i really like the car and the insurance would cover it and i dont want a used car and we currently dont have money, even with insurance money to buy new
Funny thing is that I have the impression the guy in the video doesn't always know what he's talking about, it's like he's reciting a prelearned speech for the camera, most expertvillage videos sound like the guy infront of the camera, isn't one of the experts from the so called village :) Just a thought
Crap like this put our industry down.. Cars today are so complex that if you don't have a dedicated bench or computer measuring system and a WELL trained technician, most likely the repairs will be a joke.. Take for example a tape measure for your measurements, what a joke. LOL. Please call 911............
A laser frame machine is MUCH better, it does the work and GUESS work for you, PLUS it gets the frame closer to original shape. Laser gets it down to micro, closer than a tape measure, 16th!!
I wish I had one of these at my disposal when i was fixing my Civic. I tried using a chain hoist tied to a tree but finally i resorted to a butane torch and a slede hammer. :(
This is the old fashion to have the job done, i know better places, this shop need update, new computer machines Etc. Etc. Etc.

@tomcatdcn It depends if the metal is cracked or not, usually I don't think you would have to worry unless you crash it repeatedly in the same spot.

you shouldn't repair a car that has been that totaled because if you crash again it wont be anywhere near as strong as it was originally
