i got one for 3 bucks today at goodwill... beat to shit, and missing the battery cover, but it works and still makes me happy.

Does the Japanese origin of the gameboy limit it to Japanese-only game cartridges or will it play games from U.S. and Europe?

It plays US games...not sure about European games but I suspect they are all compatible.
