  • Killer sound out of your SG set up.

  • Check out The Will to Survive by Pantera, awesome double stop riffing.

  • Running with the devil by VH was the first song I learned to apply this technique.

  • 0:22 HOW DO THIS EFFECT???

  • @danielfulca9 the guitar squeal ls whats called a pinch harmonic if thats what your on about, hope this helped (:

  • off subject comment- they should make you the teacher in the guitar hero tutorials instead of that guitar god guy ^_^

  • god damn that sounds like super distortion why isnt my ibanez sounding like this?

  • @dAnnysixx1

    it might be your amp?

  • Excellent tutorial! Thanks for making this great video!

  • sweet tone breh

  • Cool lesson. Lots of info'. Many thanks

  • this helped me much. thank you.

  • How would you solo over the tab you have provided? What scales would you use?

  • Comment removed

  • ah so thats what I was playing :L didn't even know I was playing double stops en't heard of them before see :L

  • how do you get a tone like andrew?

  • @ZebraFaka its to do with the amp settings or the way you press the strings down. If your getting buzz the way your pressing the strings is wrong or needs improving. If you have to much or lital gain that would be amp settings.

  • Check out my guitar song,i made it in CUBASE 5!!!

  • what ain't no country I ever heard of ,do they speak english in what? english do you speak it? just kiddin great vid, nice riff. just wish I could understand the terms better

  • Very Cool

  • Crazy train by ozzy, the main riff.

  • yo man what affect is that your using, its like the oldschool 80's hard rock sound

  • Great

  • thats a great tone man

  • Just remember that when you play these 2 note chords, minor or major - that they all connect accordingly to the whole scale itself.

If you play the C major chord andrew played, then go up to D and use the same major shape, it's going to sound off because F# isn't in the C major scale. So now, you should logically know that the D chord isn't major in the C major scale.

I can know all this by just knowing each note of the fret board - that's IMPORTANT. :D

And after that, shapes, patterns, etc.

  • An Endless sporadic make good use of this kind of stuff

  • Awesome riff in the beginning :D ..Mötley Crue - Too young to fall in love. Pretty good example off double stop thingys! And kickass song!

  • Do you have a tab of the riff you were playing at the beginning?

  • @1992ATP,

The link to the tab's, as well as, a jam track MP3 can be found in the description box. Press the "downward arrows" symbol next to the video views counter to open/expand the description box.

    Thanks for watching,

    Andrew Wasson

  • @1992ATP if you cant figure it out by sight you need to go back to the books.

  • Thanks a bunch!

  • nice viper i have a viper-400 :)

  • I've been playing for 16 years, your talking jibberish to me but I know what your playing.

I like to use the chords for a kinda shock like tone.

  • Great videos Andrew! They are very helpful and well explained. Easily the best on Youtube. Thank you!

  • Yeah, I loved this video. It really helped me alot!!! But i want more about the riffs. A good example of a tune I like to play is "High Speed dirt" by Megadeth. Can you make any videos about writing riffs like that song. I know they use the same concept you did in this one in the song. And you can hear it. But I would like more information.

  • if you wna a great example of diffrent shapes to use for riffing, especially triads, listen to round and round by ratt

  • nice tone

  • awesome riff

  • amazing.. i never realized that a 4th interval can be seen like an inverted 5th . thanks

  • cool lessons. if i have any question i know who to ask now;)

  • I LOVE that riff you play in the begining of the video!!

  • The opening riff to Poison's Talk Dirty to Me is just a couple descending lines of double stops. It was the first place that really helped me figure out how simple they can be.

  • nice intro! oh and i might be wrong but i think unchained by van halen uses a double stop riff

  • Nice video Andrew, I like your tone in the intro !

  • That beginning riff sounded so much like Iron Maiden!

I was waiting for Bruce Dickinson to come out on vocals!

  • "Too Late for Love" by Def Leopard is a good example of this technique. It's not too hard to play either.

  • wow it takes him a few minutes to make a really cool riff but i have to experiment for quite some time. lucky canuck! haha all it good heart. Thanks for the lesson! I will try to put this into my songwriting.

  • Excellent

  • Great lesson, thank you so much.

  • Thanks Andrew a real cool old school hard rock lesson

    colin =uk

  • Other double stop layden songs...in a different style, of couse: Hendrix, Little Wing & John Mayer, Another Kind of Green

  • nice lesson dude love the 80s metal guitar tone. some double stop chord songs off top of my head.....

Queensryche - Queen Of The Reich

    Ratt- round and round

  • Out of curiousity, how long does it take you to come up with the example at the beginning of the lesson? Is it just improvised?

  • @XDSocks

It takes me about 7-10 min. to make them up.

  • @creativeguitarstudio are these diads.. Often the first and third scale degrees? By the way your the best guitar teacher I've seen online! right on.

  • @mastyer0fReality - Well, a chord technically requires 3 notes, however when 2 notes are played together, (i.e., a; 5th, 4th, 3rd, 6th, octave, etc.), we get what we guitarists tend to call a, "Double-Stop." However, a Double-Stop is truly just an interval. But, yes a, "Dyad." chord is also a set of two-notes played and may be considered to be a chord, (although it is also simply just an interval)!

Hope this helps, thanks for the kind words & for watching,
