fuck i wish i was at this concert...this is what music is all about, sad that this only has 46,000 views...ignorance sometimes is not bliss, jazz is for the ones who understand
@paisteguy799 when it is all said & done; & brads career is looked back on, he will be mentioned in the same sentence as herbie hancock, ramsey lewis, mcCoy tyner & thelonious monk. brad will be one of the Giants.
@stanbrekston Jacky Terrasson is on that list too . tho he plays wonderfully in all sorts of 'settings :i.e. the Bacharach tribute album w vocalist. ...and . I know JT's done a lot of ensemble work, , it seems it hasnt been recorded (or promoted?) as much. Or he prefers to play, or at least limit his released material to that done with his own trio, quartet, solo. kind of shame, and effects his "legacy". I'll add to your list Jarrett Evans Corea Peterson .any giants we forgot?.......
@JohnPetrucelliSax It's not, but easy to see why you think it is. Both tunes begin with similar heads and alternating chords over which the sax enters. Check out the original with Pat Metheny on guitar.
yeah man it really is. The chords are exactly the same, and then Redman added to the existing structure with different modulations to go through some new keys. This is often classified as an update of an older song, which nonetheless falls under the category of a cover.
Brad Mehldau is a brilliant pianist. I'm not sure how one would define better or worse when discussing musicians as talented as the four assembled in this quartet.
Mehldau - huge.
Redman - huge.
McBride - huge.
Blade - huge.
Huge.

90s jazz fashion was so cool! Now all the hipsters dress like these guys used to ages ago and call themselves original.
gazzamuso 4 months ago
@gazzamuso i thought hipsters have scraggly beards and too tight short plaid shirts and way too low and tight pants. or is that only metro hipsters?
