Yeah i know what you mean. I can't hear the soboninkon i know on the doon doons but maybe that's beciase I'm hearing it from the wrong place. However i can definately hear the classic soboninkon feel on the djembes . He's by far my favourite soloist at the moment - so much style and grace.
@unbeatableenergy I can hear what you mean in the djembe parts but there's not the same ambiguity as in mamady's Soboninkun. Mind you, when I did Soboninkun with Iya Sako it was totally different and much more 4/4 so who knows. Plus remember this is in Conakry and Koungbanan played in les ballets africaine so it could be anything from anywhere!
