the one thing that always blows my mind about this show is how quickly it goes by, even when watching it on youtube here. one of the most enjoyable things about it, definitely.
Thats why I say IRON CHEFS are the TOP CHEFS in the WORLD...in under 1 hour these cats...with the freshest, unprocessed ingredients race against time to complete 3 or more gourmet dishes to feed the Royalty of Japan. Now U know thats PRESSURE!!! Heres some FREE GAME for IRON CHEF...start inviting American ,Canadian, and Mexican Royalty like Senators,Congressmen,or Former Presidents to use their palattes to challenge the IRON CHEFS. GREAT SHOW!!! PEACE!!!
okay, I;m assuming you're just kidding around in your comment, but:
1. the Iron Chef and the challenger know a week in advance what the "secret" ingredient is. They do that so they have time to plan and prepare their menu for the challenge.
2. Japan HAS an actual Imperial Family. None of their members actually was a guest on this show.
3. the Original Iron Chef is no longer being filmed in Japan. The Japanese version are only reruns from the early to mid 90s.
If you actually look at an interview done by msnbc about Iron Chef America, the chef's don't actually "know" the secret ingredient. Rather, they are given a list of 5 ingredients and they are told that one of the 5 are the secret ingredient.
So, I guess you could say they know the secret ingredient, but in all reality, they really do have to be creative in preparing their dishes.
@togio100 its a more popular belief that in ICJ, the chefs were given a number of possible ingreds, from 3-5. So ingredients provided on the sides of the stadium were meant to compliment at least a majority of the possible secret ingredients. Sometimes chefs' creations were really so bizarre and "not good" even thought they should have had an idea of what the secret ingred would have been.
it was discussed in an interview on some NHK channel.
It is a shame that the show no longer runs. I wouldve loved to see more americans on the show.
My understanding of the secret ingredient is that both the iron chef and the challenger were given 5 possible choices of ingredient before the taping. They come up with possible menus so the kitchen had the proper ingredients.
LOL!!! All of these shadetree chefs HATIN on ZYRUE!!! And cant none of these cats even come close to the CHAMPIONS...IRON CHEFS!!! THERE IS NOT ONE AMERICAN THAT CAN HOLD THE IRON CHEFS ON THEIR WORST DAY!!!! I will differ with them FRENCH CHEF because those are some BAD BOY/GIRLS too!!!!! (DONT WANT TO LEAVE THE LADIES OUT) LOL!!! WE LOVE IT!!! Even 5 yrs later these IRON CHEFS are the BADDEST ON EARTH!!!!! RACHEAL RAY??? BOBBY FLAY??? JOKES AGAINST IRON CHEFS!! LOL!! HOLLA
LOL!!! NAW MAN!!! Dont try it!!! Morimoto might live in America but he definitely is NOT an American IRON CHEF unless he is an instructor touting that he is....LOL!!! He was a catcher for a Japanese baseball team before he became CHEF so he has A GANG of heart And YES!!! Morimoto is a BAD BOY!!!...But the cat with the pear is OFF THE CHAIN too though!!! PEACE!!!
I always admire both chefs' abilities to create all of these different dishes under such pressure. It's pretty amazing. And wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to smell all of this stuff cooking? Wow.
If I could smell this stuff cooking I'd cry in joy and pain. Joy, because my nostrils would likely be in heaven, and pain, because I ain't getting any of it :(
