  • One of my biggest regrets was leaving my highschool before i could sing the role of Tevye. They wound up doing Sound of music in place of FOTR. though I left the school and graduated at the end of 99 I ran the spotlight Kind of a change from the male lead in Annie and then cast in Fiddler. But the principle was stupid and an unfair man and I could not take it anymore. It is still one of my goals to sing that Role before I die.

  • Saw this in New York when I was 8 years old. I can still hear Zero Mostel's voice in my head. Breathtaking...

  • brings tears to my eyes every time.. thank you for sharing..beautiful!

  • @thefatgoose Me too!!

  • I was in the chorus of a college production 34 years ago. True confession: I'm a goy, but part of my soul is an honorary Jew. Our version of this hearbreakingly beautiful melody and lyrics, done en masse and with candles, still brings tears to my eyes all these years later. If only all humankind would share the feelings of connectedness to G-d and each other that this makes me feel.

  • My favorite musical number from my all time favorite movie. Shabbat Shalom!

  • I love these scene...brings so many memories from Sabaths in my home in the Old Country years ago...now everytone is gone and only memories are left.....

  • 2 people aren't deserving of praise

  • can't believe were suppose to write a paragraph about this for english -____-

  • This song brings tears to my eyes. I love it.

  • 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 43

  • I'm not religious at all but this wonderfully uplifting! Happy Sabbath people!

    :)

  • Always one of my favorite songs. Shabbat is on of my favorite days. Blessed Sabbath everyone!!

  • My favorite song in the entire production. I love the intensity right before everyone sings "Amen". and the octave match with Golde and Tevye is beautiful! :)

  • I'm a 54-year-old atheist and this part of the movie always makes me bawl my eyes out.

  • As a Sabbath keeping Christian, I love this song. As a grandaughter of a Russian Jew kicked out of Russia by the Czar, I cherish this song

  • ...AND DRIVE HUMANITY INSAAAANE!!!

    Cthulhu fthagn!

  • Finally I discover something by myself! At 0:16 or 0:15 there is a cleverly set up pyramid flanked by the pillars Jachin and Boaz and the false Messiah/Lucifer coming from above in the form of the lighted match, ready to descend upon the pyramid. Thank you God, for allowing me to see this. I see when I once was blind. This is scary and cool at the same time. If you will disagree, it is because you do not see what you do not wish to see. If you know masonic symbolism, that is.

  • It always makes me cry

  • very beautiful & inspiring!!

  • i love this song its beautiful

  • Beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

  • dis was great =] i wish to noe wat sabbeth prayer's is

  • its not an old tradition. ppl still do it.

  • Plenty of people do it myself included.

  • why does the women swing her arms around the cangle?

  • because they are bring the warmth of the candles in. im jewish myself, but that is the old way of doing it

  • so do you know the significance of the candles? of the motions Golde before they start singing? i've always kinda wondered...

  • The flames represent the spirit of God, and she motions the flames toward her to "Accept", and she puts her hands over her face to distract all outside figures while she silently prays to herself. Mostly women do this, but in the absence of the Matriarch, the Patriarch will do this.

  • thank you so much for the explanation! I love this movie and i always wondered about that part!

  • How does chava's red hair work with tevye's black hair?

  • recessive genes

  • A lot of Ashenazys have red hair.

  • Chava is odd looking. They should have died her hair black or given her a wig. It seems as if she doesn't belong.

  • I think Chava looks great. Tevye has black hair so it totally works, Look at her next to Tevye.

  • dye not died

  • smartass lol jkjk

  • I never made a comment, but still it's lovely.

    Amen, Yehweh.

  • this song always gives me chills, good ones tho

  • Starsky!

  • God bless Israel. Yeshua is coming back again soon, the Messiah.

  • G-d willing

  • I love this song. It always was interesting that the mother looks at the "stranger" when saying "keep them from the strangers way". Love it.

  • I sang this song when I was in 6th grade. Amazing! I love it! It's my fave song from fiddler on the roof!

  • I really love this song. Its so good. I'm so excited to see Topol reprise his role as Tevye.

  • he is?!

  • *nods* Yes he is. I get to see him perform on Wednesday! I'm so excited.

  • LUCKY!! :D is he on tour or something?

  • Yes. Sadly this is his farewell tour. =[

  • aww D:

  • I thought he was dead!

  • Beautiful song, and interesting visual undercurrents at the table -- then the music encompasses the whole village, everyone praying for the best for the people they love. Timeless.

  • we are playing this song in orchestra. i love how all the different parts fit together

  • Topol has such a rich voice. Thanks for posting =)
