People tell me that my fc's backstory is cliché because he has an antagonist character and they just think that he kills the protagonist's parents and destroys the planet. Thats partially true, but if the backstory includes how he grew up, what challenges he faced, everything BEFORE the initial time period of RP/ video/ Fan game etc, wouldn't it be different than just wanting revenge on them? I'd like to hear whoever can give me an opinion.

Not all custom characters are stale, dumb, and uncreative, but a majority of them are, which is why recolors have gotten such a bad name. I'm not calling myself perfect, but at least I have the courtesy to only trace and draw the characters and constantly change their background.  Not all backstories are creative either, because many are considered cliche, and they tend to be overused, and many recolorers, never take the time to think up a creative story.

Even I'm guilty of this crime with one of my Characters (the one in my username, to be exact).

I totally agree with everything you said in this video (except that part about tracing XP), and I watch these recolor rants to be and take it like criticism so I can keep on doing what I'm doing but appease the haters as well.

Also I'm trying to draw my characters more, but my Scanner's been broken, so that limits my sources... ^^'

I've actually fully realized recoloring is wrong. Right now, I'm trying to stop. It's a hard habit to break, but I'm slowly stopping my recoloring bit by bit. It started with stopping recoloring over art from deviantART. Now I'm trying to stop recoloring screenshots from Sonic X. I just wish other recolorers could understand.

well, recoloring is taking a screenshot of sonic and recoloring it to make him look green, or orange. the difference is that i actually draw it myself, so technically it's not a recolor. its not very original, i admit, but its not a recolor since i draw all the pictures of my icon myself.

I know most recolors suck, but people

like sakuraCHA1234 or whatever

have REALLY good fan characters,

esspecially her Zack the Skunk, looks

nothing like Sonic at all, and it used a

Sonic X screenshot as its base.
